125: Lilledahl
133: Davis
141: Blaze/Perry
149: SVN
157: Duke/Kasak/Facundo
165: MM
174: Haines
184: Barr/Cunningham
197: Mirasola
285: Mirasola/Transfer

every person in that lineup besides Haines would have one more year of eligibility at least for the following season. Next team race maybe 2030.

I think Cunnigham is 141/149.

184 would be Zack Ryder

And don't forget PJ Duke in the mix at 157/165

Asher sorry not Hayden but hayden grey shirted so asher may as well completely forgot about ryder.

There's a lot to be said for putting Nagao out there at 133 or 141, as both Davis and Blaze will have a RS available.  (I'm guessing Nagao takes a medical RS this year.)

Crazy that Joe Sealey isn't even cracking the conversation here, given how credentialed he is.  It'll be tough for him to break through the logjam at 157-74 for sure.  Maybe 174 when Haines graduates after next year, but I can see a bunch of other guys wanting that 174 spot by then too. Hopefully Sealey makes big jumps in the room to make it interesting, but if not, I wouldn't be shocked to see him in the portal.

For as good as PSU has been the past decade, they always have a couple holes in their lineup. This year there's barely any, but starting next year, I just don't see any unless the Mirasolas don't pan out.

If I had to guess I would go

125- LL

133- Davis

141- Blaze

149- SVN

157- Duke

165- MM

174- Haines

184- Barr

197- Mirasola

285- Mirasola

Ryder will be in the mix at 184. It is possible that Duke and Blaze redshirt but there really is no need with how good they are. If Lilledahl outgrows 125 then I would suspect that Nate Desmond would step in right away and Lilledahl would man 133, pushing Davis to the bench. If Duke redshirts then I would expect Sealy, Kasak and Facundo to battle for the 157 spot. The depth of this team is insane.

If Facundo doesn't contend for a title (at 157) this year, I think he may end of heading out.

To me, Sealy peaked a couple years ago and hasn't shown to be as much of a sure-fire as he was, with convincing losses to people he had beaten (or at least outperformed) prior.  I am thinking specifically Dee Lockett, btw.

It will be interesting to see.  I think 2026 could end up being this at the end:

125 - LL (Desmond to RS)
133 - Nagao (Davis to RS)
141 - Blaze (Davis to RS)
149 - SVN
157 - Kasak (Duke to RS, Sealy riding pine)
165 - Mesenrbink (Haines to RS, Sealy riding pine)
174 - Ryder (Haines to RS)
184 - Barr
197 - Mirasola
285 - Mirasola

I know it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense, but with Barr and Facundo being best friends since they could shoot a shot, I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see both Facundo and Barr head out to OSU, UofM or somewhere else together.  Insert Ryder at 184 and don't have Haines redshirt if that happens.

Is there a chance that if Steveson breaks a leg on landing the backflip following 25 title match he finds a loophole to another medical redshirt due to not being able to stand on the podium?  Call me crazy but tell me there isn't other crazy eligibility stuff allowed.

I do believe there is a backflip injury clause.

If Davis didn’t want to redshirt this year why would he want to redshirt next year?  It’s possible Nagao doesn’t see the lineup again, in which case God may have given him bad advice.

No, but speaking of Nagao, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sealey take a “medical redshirt” next year like Nagao is doing this year.

I don't think Davis has much of a choice with Nagao injured. I think Nagao is in for a medical RS this year leaving Davis as the only viable 133lber. If he gets injured my guess is they bump Kurt McHenry up to 133.

Outside of Davis and Nagao we are looking at:

Gary Steen - He seemed undersized at 125lbs. He didn't have a ton of offense at 125lbs either.

Cael Nasdeo  - He wrestled at 141lbs against Drexel and lost. He was the only guy to lose. He is listed on the roster as 133lbs though so maybe he was just undersized against the Drexel kid but he didn't instill a ton of confidence. I know they like this kid and he trained at the NLWC his senior year so maybe he was an option at 133lbs?

Kyison Garcia - I know nothing about this kid. His bio says he was a 3x Utah state champ. This seems like one of Cael's classic kids from Utah that he always has on the roster but never sees anything other than maybe a courtesy start on senior day or possibly when they rest a guy.

Timothy Levine - He's a room guy. He is an upperclassman and not a candidate to start.

I don't think Davis really has the option to RS this year even if he wanted to with Nagao out.

I was saying the reports I saw were that Davis didn’t want to redshirt even if Nagao was healthy.

I can buy that. Davis probably believes he can win the spot outright from Nagao. I think he probably could.

If Davis is healthy on Saturday i.e. he just got temporarily dinged vs Drexel, then PSU might win all 10 weights at the Black Knight Invitational. If Davis is not 100 percent than maybe Ethan Berginc would be favored. At 197 there is RU wrestler John Poznanski who might be favored vs Josh Barr or Ethan Cochran.

Nasdeo wrestled his grey shirt last year at 125 and I believe 57kg this summer I think he was probably very undersized for 141. Garcia beat Davis at the US open this year, so he is probably not a bad option if nothing else.

I would put Davis as a decent underdog to Shawyver but I am really hoping to see that match have you seen anywhere about all the teams attending?

I forgot about Shawver, but that is probably a toss up if Davis is healthy.

I’m willing to put it out there that I think college wrestling ceasing to exist is more likely than there being a legitimate team race in the next 5-6 years.

They might get to the point where they would outscore the top non-PSU scorers at every weight combined.

There will probably be at least 6 guys next year that are AA level sitting on the bench or in redshirt.

I don't see how anyone can even be competitive with PSU for the foreseeable future...and realistically, we all know Cael and co. isn't going to forget how to recruit or develop kids in the room. That lineup has 6 LIKELY NCAA Champs (LL, Blaze, SVN, Duke, MM, and Levi). Davis, Barr, Mirasola will AA. That leaves Hvy as the only question mark. There's not an All-Star team out there that can beat them.

Well sure but there is that thread by someone in the know suggesting they don't make the podium.  😉

I agree with the sentiment of this message, but I’m pumping the brakes on Blaze as likely champ in 2026 while Mendez and Alirez still have eligibility, and same on SVN until he shows he can stay healthy for a whole season and beat Henson.

Also this got me thinking, what’s Joe Sealey doing? That kid is good as hell.
