I hear ya.

I’d love to hear a lefty argument as to how cities like Baltimore or Chicago have good or bad public schools …. They’re a bit quiet on this topic.

This entire DOGE movement is a complete joke. Federal civilian workers and salaries are 4.3% of the federal budget. I can't believe how dumb people are. They'll lay off a few workers and all the morons will say "great job." Meanwhile, the overall budget will go up because these gutless cowards refuse to touch social security, Medicare or military. Or probably even federal contractors.

It should go down but it won't. In fact, it will go up because the gutless cowards refuse to touch the largest and fastest growing parts of the federal budget.

Here's some statstics for DOE,

DOE was established in 1979.   Kids who were 6 years old then are now 50 years old.   So that would be a majority of folks now living grew up with DOE in the federal government.

Top 10 Key US Literacy Statistics

  1. 14% of adults in the US can't read.
  2. 21% of adults in the US read below a 5th-grade level.
  3. 19% of high school graduates in the US can't read.
  4. 85% of juveniles in the US court system are functionally illiterate.
  5. 70% of inmates in the US prison system can't read above a 4th-grade level.
  6. 45 million adults in the US are functionally illiterate.
  7. 50% of adults in the US can't read a book written at an eighth-grade level.
  8. 75% of Americans who receive food stamps perform at the lowest two levels of literacy.
  9. 43% of adults with the lowest literacy skills live in poverty.
  10. 3 out of 4 food stamp recipients perform at the lowest two levels of literacy.

DOE is a complete and utter failure by any measure except spending increasing amounts of money to get the above results.   DOE fosters the the road to dependency as outlined in item 10.

So now anyone, try to justify the existence of the Department of Education.

The worst of the worst kind of post from the worst of the worst kind of poster.

The stats you posted are fake. And you suck at this. Stop lying.

Prove your words RL.   Then maybe we will believe you.   Right now you are just saying I am full of it.   Prove it.

Does anyone else feel like there are way to many cabinet positions and thus shouldn't the Elon/Vivek DOGE team start by cutting 20% of the Cabinet and overall Presidential appointments?  Most are just rewarding folks from the campaign correct?

Btw:  if Canada is now a state we don't need an Ambassador right?

Who are "we"? Who are you speaking for, exactly?

You are full of it, that much is a given. But who is it that you represent?

OK, RL, don't back up your words.   Then everyone knows how much your words are worth, which is moving towards zero.

Whoever you claim "we" are. Your words mean nothing. You are anonymous. Just another internet nobody.

Projection.    No need to divert, just back up your words and there is no problem.  But you can't or won't so perhaps you shouldn't say things you can't back up.   kind of embarrassing when called out on it.   The stats are correct.   Prove them wrong or say you are wrong.  It's pretty easy.

He's not wrong, I am as much an internet nobody as he is.   But that doesn't mean my words mean nothing.   I proved a point he opposes but will not back up his opposition with facts and data.   Like I said above, it is projection on his part.

You made it clear that you copied and pasted the information from your included link.

What is just as obvious is that you didn't actually take the time to digest the "facts and data" that you were posting. It's as if you found something on the internet and blindly trusted it. Which, by the way, is is a literacy function... one that you failed.

So using the information you posted as being actual facts:

  • Let's check some math:
    • #1 - 14% of adults can't read
      • 258m adults in total = so roughly 36m can't read
    • #3 - 19% of high school graduates can't read
    • These stats appear to be off by 8 million'ish - which is unacceptable BS.
  • Another math check:
    • #2 - 21% of adults read below 5th grade level
      • 258m adults in total = so roughly 54m adults
    • #6 - 45m adults are functionally illiterate (below 5th grade level, per your link)
    • These stats appear to be off by 9 million'ish - which is unacceptable BS.
  • Last one, and not a math check this time:
    • #7 - 50% of adults can't read a book written at 8th grade level
    • Given the way the last election went, I can almost believe this one. Almost.

Just another friendly reminder. Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

Oh - and one last thing - How do these incorrect stats figure in with the Department of Education? They don't. Another literacy (and logical) function that you failed.

Without the DOE, it is very possible the stats would have been worse. The relationship isn't directly causal.
