Just want to point out that the mat was black and red with white lettering.  I saw no good looking mid aged women in attendance.  That could've been camera angle or glare off ceiling light issues.  But that mat issue has me questioning if IWB is providing factual info in the SMCs.  Don't forget to wake up early tomorrow.

The Illini looked great except for 125 and Ruth.  Edmond decided to only wrestle 10 seconds of the match.  Sure it was enough but still ...

I have no idea what you mean by the mats and the middle-aged women. I am out of, and have possibly never been in, that loop. As for the dual, it was a good day. Ramazan has to acclimate to 125. He's wrestled 133 for 5 years or so. He was a little wobbly in the first and very unsteady in the third. Next weekend, he has the returning national champion.

As for Edmond, check out the video below and tell me those aren't takedowns. With them, he's very close to a major. Even the announcers, former SIUE wrestlers were calling them takedowns. For the team as a whole, wow, they attacked, pressured, took angles, rode hard and broke a lot of souls. Here's the written recap. Cheers, my friend!

Take off your orange & blue glasses and look at your video above compared to the pic you posted in your OP, that mat is red & black.  Again, I saw no cougars from the camera angle but maybe @killdozer will report differently after he recovers.  I agree with your assessment on takedowns but Ruth started out like couple years ago just standing around hand fighting when we know he is The Destroyer of Worlds!  He showed that when needing a point in the last 5 sec restart and with td first ~5 of SV.  He could've teched that kid five times over at that rate.

Other notes:  Loved how all the matches went direct from 2nd period to SV.  Not sure what they put on the scoreboard for Ruth's 4th period it was too quick.  Darryl Thomas is looking good, great kid in college, I remember when he was going thru shoulder surgery.

Cheers!  🙂

btw:  Big Brawny looked small compared to his opponent, result suggested otherwise.

Okay, you explained your jokes ... and they were funny! I needed that assistance to get them. Just remember that you need to help us slow kids figure it out.

As for Edmond, I like The Destroyer of Worlds nickname. The article "The" is a mandatory capitalization. Yes, it works. Early in the match, the announcers noted that Ruth led the team in overtime wins last season. He has a very Edmond-centric set of strategies and tactics for his matches. As more people become aware of that, I suspect he'll adjust. He's a smart guy. We know -- you and I know -- that he is one of the better conditioned athletes in wrestling.

It's not that.

The second non-takedown from Ruth in the video the ref even gave him two swipes. We were homered twice in Edwardsville! That's like a stripper saying, "I don't like you." Even the announcers, both former SIUE wrestlers, called the takedowns takedowns.

The "SV" was confusing, but worse was the lack of individual match scores. @BobDole, I have applied to get one of those "Club" sub-forums for ILLINI discussion. Can you approve that please? Nobody wants to read my ramblings here.

As for the SIUE team, they are very young and had a tough but good lesson on how veterans like Lucas Byrd, Edmond Ruth, the Brawlnagels and Luke Luffman wrestle, their mindset and what kind of shape they get into. Jeremy Spates and Daryl Thomas have got them a young team that will win a lot in the future. Many of those kids are Freshmen or redshirt Freshman, and I watched them rep ILLINOIS at National Duals and Fargo. Picture of SIUE Associate Head Coach Daryl Thomas:

I was not cornered,  I was fine. I did enjoy a excelled Chop Cheese sandwich at Hi-Pointe drive in before the match... Highly recommened.

I thought the first overturned takedown on Ruth was the one that should have been. The 2nd I didn't think was cause he only had one arm and Pulliam rolled out of it. I will say I disagreed with the stall call in the last second. Ruth was shooting for a stall call not a takedown and Pulliam stayed in front and circled after that last attempt back to the center. BUT, oh yeah, he should have been called prior to last 5 second restart for a 2nd point without a doubt.
The dual meet went exactly the way I thought it would. I expected three competitive matches and all three were. I thought Davis would do well after seeing him in wrestle offs. I was correct. He is going to surprise some people this year and with Noto up at 133. Could be a MAC contender. I thought The Woodcock Vs. Kraisser match was going to be competitive and crazy and I was spot on. It almost could have been a first period tech for Woodcock cause he so close to getting 2nd and 3rd set of nearfalls against Kraisser (I thought he should of got a 2nd set. But the ref had a better angle than I did). But man was that a fun 2:30.
I also thought the Pulliam and Ruth match would be close (did not expect OT) and I was correct on that.
I thought Kannon Webster, the Braunagels, Scoles and Lucas Byrd looked great.

Marcel Lopez is tough and finished 3rd in the MAC and can keep matches close. Byrd looked like he had no rust.  Webster looked huge for a 149 and was constant pressure. Scoles looked slick as hell and is going to be a problem for 165 lbs. I thought maybe Nick Nosler might be able to keep the match competitive with Zach. But Zach looked great.
I think Illinois has a change at 3-5 AA's and 7 AARP cards.

I have to say it was a very good crowd there as well.

Nebraska wrestle off results from last Saturday:

As mentioned earlier ITT, Lauridsen did beat Smith at 125 but it's still expected that Smith will be the starter and Lauridsen still goes through with his RS.

125--Lauridsen dec Smith 8-7

149--Lovett was supposed to wrestle Robertson but the match didn't take place due to injury. Not sure if the injury happened to Lovett or Robertson. From folks who were there they mentioned that Ridge was working on the mats but he was wearing a shoulder brace so who knows.

157--Taylor TF Dalton 20-5

165--Wilson SV Minto 6-5--match of the day

174--Pinto dec Araujo 6-2

184--Allred WBF Christiansen

197--McDanel TF Thebeau 23-8

Dalton is only a true frosh but he had a really good junior and senior year so Antrell teching him to me is a very good sign of where he's at this year. Araujo is really tough, but I would have expected Lenny to open that one up a bit more but could just be a familiarity issue.

Thank you Bob Dole, Bob Dole! If I remember correctly, Bob Dole was lampooned on SNL for saying Bob Dole a lot, Bob Dole.

Fans of the ILLINI and the IRTC are welcome to join the club. First post is up, and it is a Preview of ILLINOIS versus Arizona State and Binghamton, and the next day's Journeymen Collegiate Classic with the Orange and Blue, Cornell, North Carolina State, Pitt, Penn, Lehigh, Army, etc.

Huge Weekend!

That sentence has a super cinnabonish feel. Which is like regular cinnabonish but with a cape.

You should consider taking a break from the wrestling parts of these forums...:classic_dry:

I agree, Dalton is really highly touted so seeing Antrell really put it on him was a bit of a 'yo' for sure. I think Taylor is going to be a real PITA at 157.

I, too, thought Pinto would win by a little more margin but as you pointed out, I'd imagine these guys are pretty familiar with themselves. Araujo is supposed to be the real deal so seeing him keep it somewhat tight for a couple periods has to be a shot of confidence for him. Here's the play by play from that match written by the Corn Nation reporter:

I was really interested in this match because it could shed some light on both wrestlers. How will Pinto look down at 174? How good is the true freshman Araujo, a U20 World bronze-medalist?

I think we got the answers to both those questions today in this match. In the first period, Araujo showed great defensive abilities as he fended off some ferocious attacks from Pinto.

Araujo then started down in the second period and scored an escape, taking a 1-0 lead into the third period.

In the third, Pinto took control of the match with a quick escape, a reversal and a takedown to get the 6-2 win.

Araujo is set to redshirt behind Pinto, but he showed today that he is for real as we got our first look at him against a legit top guy. He’ll be a force in a year or two with Pinto as a training partner. I fully expect Araujo to take the mat for a few duals this year.

On the other hand, Pinto looks great at 174 pounds. I was pleasantly surprised to see that his gas tank doesn’t seem to be affected by the cut as he scored all six of his points in the third period.
