Pyles seems to think Levi will be red shirting this year... I think that makes the team race very interesting. He also thinks Barr would be going 197 I personally would be excited because Carter vs Parker is probably the best matchup, we could have next year but I think PSU's best lineup would be Barr 184, Carter 197 or carter 184 and Mirasola 197. Certainly not next topic but given PSU's track record with true freshman I think Mirasola could win that weight.

NCAAs should keep two scores for each school. First score is all 10 wrestlers, second scores deducts points from wrestlers who transferred in.

The university also paid $4 million to settle a lawsuit that alleged racism by the football staff

So what. We're doing the collective guilt thing now.

No, I don’t think the wrestling staff is racist, although some of their fans may be a different story.

But you could say that about any sports team fan base.

Interesting how most of those mentioned transfers had declining NCAA performances at PSU. Is that "undeveloping?"

I have noticed this in a big way too.  There seems to really be an adjustment period to being in that room for some guys.  Probably bc transfers are used to being the big dog in the room and show up and just get wrecked their first year.  Reassembling the ego takes two years for most.  DT and Bo both talked about how rough redshirt year was.

Maybe, but Deam was champ his first year and really dropped off his second.

Yeah he definitely did, there are a lot of trends that make it an uphill battle for grad-transfers, training age chief amongst them.  That is one thing folkstyle has going against it, it wears you out so hard.  Not that the other styles don’t but, the as an athlete the folkstyle college season always felt like it was three years long.

Was his 6th year the year that Gabe decamped and just left wrestling entirely, or did that happen as soon as they left Cornell?

Gabe kept wrestling, I believe.  Close loss to DT in an NLWC COVID dual and then an attempt at making the 2021 team.

Iowa already did this for at least two duals last season.  Against Cal Baptist and Oregon State they wrestled

133 Brody Teske

141 Real Woods

149 Victor Voinovich

157 Jared Franek

165 Michael Caliendo

184 Brennan Swafford

All six were transfers.  By the end of the season Voinovich lost his spot to Rathjen and Swafford was assessed a gambling ban that had been overlooked. At time throughout the year Schriever wrestled in favor over Teske, but Teske had regained the spot by Big Tens.

It probably comes down to small numbers.  Plenty of transfers have improved at PSU under Cael.  I think below is the list of transfers that made the starting lineup during his tenure.  I think the only ones that definitively were worse at PSU were Conel, Hildebrandt, and Nagao.  Nagao still has time to turn things around.

Cyler Sanderson - Best finish at ISU was 7th.  At PSU he was Big Ten champ and finished 6th.  Improved.

Andrew Long - Was a national runner up at ISU.  He was 3rd at PSU and has a slightly better record. No change.

Jimmy Lawson - 1x AA finishing 6th as a senior.  Improved.

Jered Cortez - Similar performance as Illinois. No change.

Carson Kuhn - Similar performance. No change.

Brady Berge - Similar performance. No change.

Kyle Conel - 3rd place finish at the year before was an anomaly.  Injured.  Worse at PSU.

Greg Kerkvliet - National Champ.  Improved.

Max Dean - National Champ. Improved.

Drew Hildebrandt - Better at CMU.  Worse at PSU.

Mitchel Messenbrink - National runner-up. Improved.

Aaron Nagao - better at MN, but has two years left.  Worse at PSU.

Bernie Truax - 4th 3x at Cal Poly.  5th at PSU.  No change.

How did these two improve at PSU compared to their previous season at another school?

Same question for:

Jimmy Lawson - 1x AA finishing 6th as a senior.  Improved.  From What?

Not to mention, claiming Long went from 2nd to 3rd is a no change but Dean went from 2nd to 1st to 7th is an improved??   I get 2nd to 3rd is marginally the same but you have to be consistent with everyone who went up or down a few podium spots then.

I also enjoyed how Cyler went from 7th to 6th but was an improved because he won the B1G when he never wrested in the B1G before.  His previous coaches must of been terrible 😀  Good thing PSU improved him...
