Would've been interesting to see if Yazdani would've been able to close distance on JB to utilize his underhooks. I have my doubts.

Very interesting matchup.  I like your analysis,  By that point in their careers, I'm not sure how many guys like JB that Yaz had wrestled.  JB had wrestled a ton of guys who tried to bully him into ties.  I also like JB in the matchup due to his experience.

Style match ups... Yaz's underhooks were more effective at stopping Goadisov's head butting and brawling. JB's attack from the outside had to go through Gadisov. Remember the blood and stoppages. I'm on the side of PEDs because Gadisov was not nearly that nasty previously.

JB would have to beat Yaz to get that gold, who did beat Gedeuv in the finals. I would favor JB in that hypothetical matchup, but no way 99%

I agree that was definitely hyperbole. However, JB is undefeated in Gold medal matches, and has done really well against Iranians. He’s proven he can neutralize the under hook, so I think he’s a pretty heavy favorite in that match up… you are right though, no way it’s 99%

Are we also going to say that all US wrestlers are squeaky clean?

I dislike this assumption, since we so readily believe other countries will get saucy, shall we say.

As support to our blindness, I offer Icarus and Carl Lewis.  We definitely have a system set up to support our athletes in getting every vitamin possible, we are eager to pretend it doesn’t exist.

No, we can’t say for sure that all US wrestlers are squeaky clean. But I’m pretty confident there’s no state sponsored doping program. That’s a huge distinction.

Joe Warren, the baddest man on the planet, got removed from competition for PED.   I think it was pot, but not sure.  I believe Jordan Oliver also couldn't compete for something similar.

I believe JO was on unapproved therapeutic use of ADHD meds. (although these are also drugs that are commonly abused and may enhance performance)

Don't forget Daton Fix and Dad's ostarene!

Joe was pot. Oliver was something else.

Insert catchy tagline here.

The difference between Russia and USA steroids is the same as the economy:

In Russia, everything in a person's day-to-day life is state-mandated.

In America, everything in a person's day-to-day life is mandated by privatized companies.

Both have athletes are that running hot. It's just a difference of how they arrive at the same endpoint. I previously used the Nike Oregon Project as an example. Sure, it wasn't state mandated but if you were anyone who wanted to be someone in track & field or distance running then you were at NOP and if they told you to put something in your body then you did it no questions asked. Just a difference of the mechanisms of capitalism versus authoritarian socialism.

I'm not familiar with the Nike Oregon Project... Were they requiring their athletes to dope? Do you know what they were taking?

I am sure there are US wrestlers that cycled through PEDs.  I have no idea who and won't speculate.  It is just human nature.

It's hard to believe that with all the PEDs going on throughout the world, that our guys can come out on top despite it.

For starters, they were injecting L-carnitine, which is a method to strip fat off the body, reducing metabolic demand/reducing need to shed heat.

I take an Acetyl/L-Carnitine/Alpha Lipoic acid every morning. They were on much heavier items than L-Carn such as Goucher's cytomel (thyroid med used to lose weight post-partum).

It's the amounts and the method that apparently result in the "best" results.

From that BBC link:

"In 2010, Salazar became aware of a legal supplement that could boost levels of L-carnitine - which occurs naturally in the body and helps convert fat to energy - and produce a significant performance boost. The problem was it took about six months of drinking the supplement to notice any difference. Salazar didn't want to wait that long.

UK researchers had devised a method to produce the same result by infusing intravenously the supplement using a drip, over four hours. Salazar wanted to test this, and Magness was to be the guinea pig. Reluctantly, he agreed and the results were instant. "Almost unbelievable," said Magness."

JB is heavy favorite in a 2016 Yazdani match. Yazdani’s comeback win against Geduev was blood filled and pretty miraculous.
