Shouldn't you just sign up for HR already? The debate is over there.

No kidding.  He links everyone to HR on a weekly basis.  He might as well just pin a link at the top of page.  If people wanted to go to the  Hawkeye forums wouldn't they just go there daily like I do?

How do we define transfer here? Some of those were past transfers, but if you started last year for a school and are going to start this year, you're a returner, not a transfer.

"transfer" is forever imbedded in his Iowa bio.

Well the OP specifically mentions the “transfer portal,” and all of the guys he listed are products of that except for Swafford.  It’s silly to count guys from other divisions as transfers.  But Jimmy knows this, it’s his typical sprinkling in an obvious troll into a valid comment

so if a D-2 wrestler transfers to a D-1 school he's not considered a transfer?

They transferred … so they are, by the definition of the word, transfers.

absolutely. but when you look at a lineup and see an athlete who has been wearing your team's singlet for over a year, is he a transfer or a returner?

Swafford did not come from the portal though as he came from NAIA.   I guess D2/D3 guys would?

He's both. He's a returning transfer. It's not an either/or distinction. Just have to ask the right question.

Another comparison: You're regarded as a "redshirt senior" if you redshirt before your freshman year or after your junior year. If you compete after a redshirt, you're not just a redshirt that season following.

Insert catchy tagline here.

Transfers existed before the portal. They're still transfers.

Yes I get that, just pointing out that Jimmy was complaining about people complaining about the transfer portal.

But yes, while technically transfers, guys transferring from other divisions is very different than the portal, as there is not typically multiple schools trying to get them.

I was not complaining.  I was just pointing out the irony of Iowa fans complaining about transfer ruining sports when they're the biggest beneficiaries of transfers in terms of starters on a D-1 wrestling team.

If a poster on themat.com forum takes  another posters screen name  to use on the new  Intermat forum, does that poster really exist?

It's absolutely no difference within the three NCAA divisions in regards to this statement. There are D2 and D3 guys in the portal, same as D1.

Insert catchy tagline here.
