Wanted to go a little off-topic these days with a genuine wrestling question - Who are you excited for coming in for either the '24 or '25 class for your team?

Only 1 so far for Oregon State, a fly under the radar type of guy Hudson Rogers.  2025 guys starting to make announcements.

24' Giddens and Hollingsworth for OU are good "gets" and Walker to Mizzu.  All Oklahoma boys, and they are tough as nails.

I agree... there was a time that OK HS wrestling was down for a bit, but they seemed to be upping their game again in more recent years.

I also saw that ASU got their next big man in the class of 2025, Sahakian. As we all know, the trouble with 2025 commits is that they still have time and opportunities to flip.

He was a 2X small class state champ, moved to 6A (Bixby) and won it.  He will end up a 4X state champ, and I project him to be 125/133.  Tough as hell, not flashy, but stingy.  Lost to Jax Forrest this year in a barn burner, lost by one.  He has some big wins nationally....Oklahoma could have had him but Lou F'd all of that up.  This OU staff is doing a good job, because Lou had most kids headed out of state

So Mack Mauger, Zeke Selzter the Juco AA, and Williams all potential 125/133. Mack most likely career 125, just nonetheless where do they all fit?

Walker could end up at 133, Seltzer is tough, he and Walker would be a great match I think.  My dude Cam Steed doing some things up there....He was another one Oklahoma overlooked...doesn't make sense, but they did.

Get guys in the room and the cream rises to the top. None are surefire AA's. Mauger is still wrestling 113 so remains to be seen if he will grow into 125. Seltzer has promise for sure but his best win during redshirt was Jace Koelzer.

There can never be enough talent in the room.  Look at PSU.  Things always work out.  Might not work out the way we think but they always sort out.

yep, and that is how Mizzu has always done it.  Think about if Fugitt would have ended up there, talk about a log jam.

Mauger will need a year (or more) to get the weight on him to be a formidable 125. Reminds me of McHenry.

Really excited to see Davino for Ohio State. Fingers crossed they can also land Marcus Blaze.

I also think 160 lb Senior Ethan Birden will be a guy that makes some waves when he cracks the starting lineup.

Pretty excited to see what the trio of Heethus (Princeton), Davis (Penn State), and Horwath (Michigan) do.  They kind of fly under the radar when it comes to lighter weights, but I believe all three can be a factor at the weight as soon as this season (hopefully no injuries happen to the gents in front of them to be clear).

Oh I’m super excited about Cam. I think he and J Canoway will battle for the spot at 157. Steed wrestled great at the scuffle as KOT replacement.

Someone else told me this same comparison. Only time will tell.

As an SIUE alum, and a coach of this kid, very excited about Porter Matecki (Whitfield School, MO) to SIUE. 3x MO Class 3 Champ. Made the round of 12 at Super 32 last year @ #120. Beat Gauge Botero (2022 Fargo 3rd), Ashton Jackson (C/o 2023 Purdue signee), and Nikade Zinkin (Cali state medalist; top 20 by MatScouts). Both losses came to Jax Forrest (12-4 in Round of 32 & 9-6 in bloodround). Kid is a gamer. Very excited about/for him.

While we have you here (an SIUE alum) - I have to say I'm a big fan of Saul Ervin

My dad doesn't actively follow wrestling, but I was spending time with him last year during Midlands and we kept getting to see Saul Ervin matches and he was upsetting guys left and right.  Gritty, calculated, and under the radar - fun wrestler.  Will be keeping an eye out for him this year

Yes, he's a stud. 2x qualifier now. Scraps hard. Glad to know there's a fellow SIUE fan in the building.

I know Porter very well and his dad. I was shocked he committed because he wants to fight.  We have wrestled him several times, and he is funky as hell and tough too.  He had Jax beat, I was there and he gave up some points late.  He is gonna be a good one.  Some other studs going there I know. Woodcock is gonna be a hammer, great on top, GREAT KID and GREAT parents. Strick is gonna be a good one too, he really never had partners and had great success, he will blossom in that room

Agree with you on Tyus. He scraps hard.

Chronic, serious, shoulder injuries forced Ruffin into early retirement. Unfortunate given how talented he was.
