Mineo just tweeted "Looks like RBY will be joining Gomez!"

What other US-based wrestlers compete for Mexico? Which US-based wrestlers should compete for Mexico?

Personally I'd like to see Zahid rock the green, white, and red. (I assume he could become eligible because his brother competed for Mexico.)

Did Anthony Valencia compete at MEX nattys in March? I only saw the pic of Gomez and was unable to find brackets, etc.

Surprised at this. RBY is a guy who I thought soon could be the top guy on the US team and a medal threat.

Usually the guys that rep another country are lower on the ladder. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him beat the US guy, whoever it is.

Making the US team is a grind. Not that RBY is afraid of that, but for him with high aspirations, why beat your body up for a possible world championships or Olympics, when you can focus on training for the rest of the world, not just getting through a grueling trials process.

Agreed, and I understand it. It’s just that usually you don’t see it happen with a guy of his pedigree.

Umm, have you seen the Russian expat landscape the last decade? Or Chanizo, Micic, Amine?

Russians, yes it happens a lot. But for Americans, I don’t recall a guy who has a good shot at being the US rep going to another country.

As good as Anine and Micic are, neither of them had much of a chance to make the US World or Olympic teams.

Franklin Gómez and Jaime Espinal both spent time in the states, both competed for Puerto Rico, and both won world-level silver medals.

If he goes to Mexico we have Vito to thank.

RBY isn't doing anything until he knows what weight Vito is entering so he can choose a different one.

Good Morning, Ma'am.

Your take is stupid.

That is all.

You know... he still probably beats everyone not named Captain or Cox.  He easily beat Moore (yes he was injured, but still) and Macchiavello... the #3 and #4 97 KG guys.

I agree with this statement... but it's still fun to call him fat, even if he has the speed of Vito.

Of these, none have a chance at the Olympic team as it stands now.   All would be well advised to go and get on another team if possible for them.   Even Zahid at 92, if he had faced Cox, would be #2.  Except Cox was injured and went to 97, but even for this year, anyone not named Cox didn't have a shot at 92 if Cox was there.

This lineup next year for Mexico would be a major coup for the Mexican team and would immediately raise Mexico's wrestling profile.

While I agree with in, in regards to Cox, I do want to point out that the guy who was 4th on the 92 KG ladder this season took a match in a very competitive three match series last year.

Cox at 92 KG was never going to be a thing this season so it is pointless bringing a 'what if' scenario in to the fold.

Perhaps, but it makes my point that all of those folks could probably make it to the Olympics if they were to wrestle for Mexico.   staying with the US is most likely not their best option, including Zahid.   He couldn't make 86, and wouldn't have mde 92 with Cox there.   He will not be able to go to 97 and beat Snyder so he is kind of out of options.  Unless he improves greatly.
