I thought it was foolish for Max Dean to bail, but he seems very very satisfied with his decision. Gave some great interviews after his last match of the tournament. I'm happy for him.

Agreed, especially for Yianna.

Why Yianni in particular? Throw him into Penn State's lineup, he's got the NLWC to help him with his international goals and...DAMN, that lineup looks that much nastier with him in there. 6 NCs last year, 3 this year(maybe he even makes Haines one given the lack of talent around Haines in the room:classic_wink:).

I mean, a degree from Cornell is objectively more valuable...not to take a shot at PSU, it just is.

I am glad though. As much as I appreciate and respect Penn State, things seem like they're getting a little out of hand. Iowa dominated...but it seems like they had more teams who were at least nipping at their heels more often. With the Gibson brothers and almost certainly the Bassett brothers(plus there's ANOTHER Cousin by another name who's a stud)...I'd like to see a little more competitive balance.

---My deepest apologies beforehand for bringing this up, but as an example, I turned on ESPN and they were talking about how the Women's CBB Tourney was getting higher ratings. One of the reasons, the main one offered actually, was because unlike the past when it was ALMOST always Tennessee and then UConn, you're seeing #9 seeds knock off #1 seeds. The team title isn't determined before you get there. If for no other reason, I hope Iowa and OSU and their recent recruiting classes really hit so that MAYBE they've got a shot at knocking PSU down...though on a team where you're talking about how do you make room for a Freshmen like Facundo and it looks like Penn State is really reinforcing their lightweights, it's gonna take a whole lot from the respectives 'Eyes.

International goals:  people seem to forget that somehow Dake got to be multiple world champion and Yianni got to the WC final while training at Cornell/Finger Lakes/Spartan Combat.  Yianni is always giving credit to Mike Grey for his successes.

I've noted that people on the PSU forum often say that the PSU graduates are "better" than those from Cornell, as well.

I know he trained a lot with DT for a long time.

There has to be some reason he made the move to the NLWC.

I thought this was about Yianni.

Training at PSU is just a distraction, flat out. I feel like their mental preparation is based on pseudoscience and mysticism.

Who cares what it's based on? It works.

Snyder, Dake, Gilman, Taylor, Abdurakhmonv, Varner, Nolf, Zain...

I also don't know what pseudoscience you're talking about. They seem to be pretty healthy and they don't gas. The religious aspect of it...who cares? Every Wrestler seems to be religious from every club.

I don't even know how this can be in dispute at this point. The NLWC is by FAR the premiere ROT in the Country.

It is...and then you brought up Dake;

So if you want to keep it to Yianni...don't bring Dake up.

The argument was made that staying at Cornell when the Ivies shut down was particularly helpful to Yianni. I just asked why it was particularly beneficial to a 2X Champ rather than to Cornell?

Weather?  I've lived both places and believe it or not the difference is huge.  Ithaca may still have snow on the ground and they're getting ready to mow their lawns in Central PA.  A little bit of exaggeration but you'd be amazed.

@scourge165 You may have taken this a bit more seriously than was meant. I thought we had you loosened up a bit brother.

I'm just asking why it was particularly beneficial for Yianni moreso than Cornell for him to stay there.

I said I'm glad and I'd like to see another team actually push PSU and that it was a good thing in general.

I mean...it's not exactly San Diego to Siberia, but...alright.

Max absolutely made the best decision for himself.   The portal tipped the scale from school to athlete.

Kudo's to him for not succumbing to pressure and sacrificing a year to COVID hysteria.

Link to Max Dean's Letter

May we all "fail" to meet out expectations such as Max Dean and have a career in which we got 125-18 and 8,2,1,7 in 4 contested tournaments!

What rights of his was disrespected?

I suspect he's talking about the Ivies not wrestling in 2021.

He lost the year in 2021 and that's probably a point of contention for him. He lost out on another year of Wrestling. Not sure that he wins it in '21 with Brooks at '84 or Ferrari, but I'm sure HE believe he'd have won it. Though...Brooks Freshmen year(RS). Dean would have been a tough match.

I also think Dean should have been an '84 the last two years, but...when the best Wrestler in the Country over that period(arguably) is at your weight...

Cornell was insane during the height of Covid …with contact tracing if you were even in class with someone that later tested positive a bus would show up and remove you and move you a quarantine hotel in the middle of campus, students weren’t allowed to go home without permission and they were denying all religious exemptions for the vax …so yea I’d say those disrespected his rights

Contact tracing was a failed concept from the start. The goal with everything you mentioned was reduced hospitalizations so that people had access to essential services. People have a right to essential services. I don’t even know what to do with religious exemptions. Sounds like a death cult.
