lightweight Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 OK, so Steen lost his 9 place match. Could someone who understands NCAA tournament scoring tell me it the following is correct? Assume Steen can't beat anybody in his bracket, and won't score any points for PSU. Is PSU better off with him not in the tournament, since some competing team could score bonus on him, or gets some points in a pigtail match?

Regardless, in theory you’re probably correct, but that’d be a pretty crappy thing for a coach to do. “I don’t think you’re going to win any matches, so I would rather not allow another team to get a couple points” 1

My interest is really in looking forward to Nationals. Agreed that losing on purpose would be pretty crappy, but I'm just asking "theoretically" as to what the impact would be on the team scores.
