I'm not gonna do a breakdown, but yesterday someone pointed out to me that OSU had 3 true freshmen champs and a runner up and i realized it was stupid to sleep on em.

Well you said you realized it’d be stupid to sleep on them…if you were sleeping on them you might feel stupid. Since they over performed it’s ok to sleep on them a little…

One of them was taken down in OT, and they mistakenly reversed the call, per the head of officiating for the NCAA.

Oklahoma state is going to need to maximize their ceilings at 141 and 285 and hope that psu is closer to their floor at those two weights. 149, 165, 174, 184 are the other weights to watch for me. SVN is great but I think there is a chance he falls down the podium this year. Valencia, Hneson, Vega, Mendoza all outplacing him would not shock me. Duke is likely going to be a bonus machine at 165 this year and I am starting to feel like swiderski may be the guy at 165 but whoever it is Oklahoma state cannot be outside of the top 5 there and I think the same goes for 174 and to an extent 184. Rocco is likely not going to bonus like Duke or MM but its hard to invision him outside of the top 4 so you cannot give up too much ground. I have it 5 and 5 in terms of which team puts a guy on the podium higher

125: PSU
133: OKST (huge weight)
141: OKST (ONO maybe has a higher ceiling to be determined)
149: OKST
157: OKST
165: PSU
174: PSU
184: PSU
197: PSU
285: OKST

the main difference comes down to bonus and overall confidence the weights I have PSU guys there is not much doubt.

Ugghh. I think it's more likely that PSU wins 9 matches than it is for OSU to win the dual.

The main difference is the floor of each team. In a let down performance from OKST, it's not hard to picture Spratley in the 7th/8th match, 165 is a wildcard right now, 174 has never placed, 184 gives some Richie Figs vibes after let down seasons the last couple of years, and I'm hoping we see more offense from Merrill, but heading into last years tournament he wasn't a lock to AA and ended up in the finals. The good thing is they have multiple guys at those question mark weights, and I feel confident that whoever gets the starting spot should be very competitive. With PSU though, a down performance outside of 141 and 285 right now is 4th place.

I feel like most of us know that 2027-2028 is the first year OKST should actually be in a realistic team race conversation. It's PSU, so I'm sure whoever gets the starting spot at 149 and 174 in that season will be very competitive, but you can really only lose points when replacing Mesenbrink, and right now, I don't know that they have a NC contender waiting in the wings at 149. A strong showing from OKST this year will give the 27-28 race some real juice.

Watched RBY's last youtube video its just him wrestling with Masa for 6 minutes but would highly recommend. A few things I took away from it, they both look really freaking good, RBY looks bigger than Masa dare I say quite a bit larger so I am not sure how 141 goes for him. Masa did get wrist control and hit a sit out on bottom and also hit a cradle but it was very hard to tell how much if any resistance was being offered.

I agree a big factor is bonus points. That’s been PSU’s dominance factor. For the first time, another coach is pushing it big time (the other coach just so happening to come from PSU). When you watch Stilly Boys videos, DT is constantly preaching it. One episode he let Lockett have it for not pushing for bonus in a dual.

It seems like there are certain guys that have it and others don’t. Jax is always pushing. Landon is always pushing. MM obviously is always pushing. This is the thing that always aggravates me about Mizzou (and I feel like started with Mauller and Jacques). Then you get someone like O’Toole and Sinclair who have the mindset to keep scoring.

OSU is capable, but a lot will have to go right (seeding, bonus, etc) and a lot will have to go wrong for PSU. Spratley has been in the finals. Jax is an undefeated NC. Raney is unknown but huge ceiling. Vega and Landon are NC’s. Dee beat Caliendo. Norman stayed with Hamiti as a frosh (probably OSU’s only “weak spot”). Berge’s an AA. Merrill is a finalist and Doucet is the highest returning placer.

So that’s 5 previous finalists and two more AA’s. Plus high ceilings with Raney and Dee. Aside from LL, (probably) PJ, MM, and Barr, PSU has no guaranteed finalists, imo.
