I don't know why it occurred to me but I ask an AI if anyone scored more team points than match points at NCAAs, and it said no. So I asked about tshirts the year he won and indeed he scored 21 team points, and 15 match points.

He beat former champ Maple in the quarters and future champ Houdashelt in the semis, both 2-1 OT.

Side note, AI can be so bad at wrestling knowledge. I've found Grok to be better than the rest with wrestling, but it's still not quite good enough. My experience, Gemini really can't get it right without interrogating and correcting it, kinda like you did here. It is still fun to question it and massage out the answers you're looking for.

Folks say this all the time.  Do they only use it because it's easier?

think Lockhart did same in '01. well 16 points scored if my math is right on way to winning championship.

They use it bc all is lost. Or, maybe, all is lost bc they use it.

Some companies these days have weekly quotas you need to hit on AI prompts or you can get fired.   Pretty gross.

I’ve found AI is best for doing unhelpful and unimportant tasks… like making spreadsheets and charts of things you’ve never needed spreadsheets and charts for…

And, as the quota post suggests, this list grows daily. So, yeah, when you get more emails by 10 am than you could read in 24 hours, I understand the temptation to look at that summary.

But when we do, we consent to our own subjugation. I don't think this is overstatement.

I asked ChatGTP because... well, that's the point of the thread;

You have to give it some parameters. It's only as useful as your instructions(and even then... it's limited in it's usefulness).
But;

Wrestler Year Place Match points Team pts Status
Jason Tsirtsis 2014 1st 15 21 QUALIFIES +6
Mark Ellis 2009 1st 19 21 QUALIFIES +2
Zach Rey 2011 1st low enough to qualify > match pts QUALIFIES
Darian Cruz 2017 1st 21 21 TIE — does not qualify
Don Whipp 1993 2nd at least 19 before/including final below that No
Greg Haladay 1990 2nd about 18 below that No
Brett Bourne 1990 5th comfortably > team pts — No

when i see 5th i think we're getting into territory where i wonder if they pinned someone from bottom or something.

The ironic thing is that he had that reputation after those NCAAs, but he wrestled a terrific aggressive match right before that to win Big Tens.  I always assumed that because he won NCAAs in such low scoring matches, that, like a general who always tries to replicate his greatest victory, going forward after that he (my sense is also with his brother's counsel) decided to keep wrestling that way.  But he showed at Big Tens that wasn't his only skill.

Some poster has made an argument that some would need to "hit on AI prompts". Pretty gross and pathetic poster.

honestly, given my previous attitude towards him and that run, at this point its more interesting to me that he won big tens that year.
