I like Russian wrestlers too but not sure why you’d applaud this decision.  What exactly changed to now allow them to compete?   Would you be applauding if you were Ukranian?  Seems to be exactly the type of decision that would put a smile on Putin’s face.

Athletes are rarely political……  probably right?

Numerous prominent Russian wrestlers have faced international bans or sanctions due to their public support for Vladimir Putin, his political party, and the war in Ukraine. The following list groups specific male and female athletes who have been officially flagged by international sporting bodies or the Ukrainian government for participating in pro-regime propaganda: [1, 2, 3]

Elite Men's Freestyle Wrestlers [1]

image.png.6f55ab77807b473494da03341c973128.png
Abdulrashid Sadulaev: The two-time Olympic gold medalist was barred from competing by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) after serving as a guest of honor at pro-war military tournaments and posting propaganda imagery on social media.

image.png.dd97d1a07b8e38067be56647a7770d47.png
Zaurbek Sidakov: The Olympic champion participated in a pro-regime rally at Luzhniki Stadium and openly stated his friendship with Putin, resulting in his exclusion from major neutral-flag events.

image.png.723714f17d6b121f99842c2cb21a945d.png
Zaur Uguev: Also an Olympic gold medalist, Uguev was vetted and subsequently banned for standing alongside military personnel at state-sponsored pro-war rallies.

image.png.b84dca338e7d54318bcb573a7ae8198d.png
Artur Naifonov: He was flagged by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukrainefor participating in political events that explicitly justified the invasion.

Arslan Bagaev: Participated in state-backed tournaments alongside decorated soldiers from the frontline to actively boost domestic military morale. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

Men's Greco-Roman Wrestlers [1]

image.png.f1b306cb87ec3719e85570619644fc86.png
Anvar Allakhiarov: Excluded from Olympic qualification lists due to documented public declarations backing the political regime in Moscow.

image.png.e5de237cc6674052cb8c19a0e80fc2e3.png
Sergei Semenov: Named in joint Olympic committee investigations for using his sports platform to amplify Kremlin-directed narratives.

Yevgeny Baydusov: Placed on the official state sanctions list by Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for visiting occupied territories and supporting military fundraising.

Imam Ganishov: Sanctioned under the same presidential decree for participating in regime activities involving youth propaganda. [1, 2]

Elite Women's Wrestlers

Dinara Kudayeva: Attracted scrutiny for publicly glorifying the Russian armed forces on social media following her father's deployment.

image.png.8cc45e35f00908f0c89fca69f933c9a0.png
Natalya Malysheva: Explicitly endorsed military-centric social media campaigns, leading to an immediate push for her ban from the National Olympic Committee.

image.png.dcb8cd5cd5df234a71e69eda81380666.png
Olga Khoroshavtseva: Flagged and banned after interacting with and amplifying pro-war propaganda on digital platforms.

Alina Kasabieva: A Crimean athlete who assumed Russian citizenship and used her public platforms to actively champion Putin’s policies.

The world let Germany host the Olympics a couple decades after they were gassing Jews by the trainload.

Not much has changed since then, the world is letting the USA host the Olympics only a few years after they were slaughtering Iranian school children in Minab (and elsewhere) and supported a genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

Where is less important than when…

Aaron Brooks and Thomas Gilman are making sure of that.

Are you really calling these guys out? Gillman is done competing and the Brooks stuff is an anomaly. I don't like the path, but Brooks after 2 years he could arguerable the best wrestler in the US.  You hate where our US team is headed. Let's not forget why Russia can't compete and is under the IAN.

2019 Kazakhstan agrees with this take.

They peaked in ways that would make Micic blush if he weighed in at Belgrade after eating a Chipotle buffet.

I'm not sure Gilman was completely done competing.  He may be now.  Last time I checked, he wasn't able to even fully coach.

Amazing how many two time caught cheaters claim "anomaly."

I love the direction our team is going! Get rid of the cheaters and people who can't follow simple rules!

Good. The UWW could not maintain a system where Israeli athletes who support their genocide in Gaza get a free pass but Russians can't compete under their own flag.

Sherlock Holmes over here. You solved it!
