I have 174 flipped and a 16-16 tie.

Crazy they had so many more matches in ‘16… and they weren’t even getting paid!

125 - Luke Lilledahl (25-0) v Nico Megaludis (32-3)

- Luke

133 - Jax Forrest (18-0) v Nashon Garrett (37-0)

- Jax

141 - Sergio Vega (24-0) v Dean Heil (32-1)

- Vega. Under neutral danger rules it’d probably be a first period tech

149 - Aden Valencia (21-7) v Zain Retherford (34-0)

- Zain

157 - Landon Robideau (21-2) v Isaiah Martinez (32-1)

- Imar

165 - Mitch Messenbrink (27-0) v Alex Dieringer (33-0)

- The hardest one, but I’m going Messenbrink

174 - Levi Haines (26-0) v Myles Martin (33-6)

- Haines

184 - Max McEnelly (24-2) v Gabe Dean (34-1)

- Destroyer of Worlds

197 - Josh Barr (24-0) v J’Den Cox (33-1)

- Tough call.  I want to say Barr, but I’m going Cox  he won an Olympic Bronze a few months later

285 - Isaac Trumble (21-0) v Kyle Snyder (11-0)

- I feel like Trumble has been around so long he was actually in this bracket. I’m sure Snyder beat him then so I’ll call it a repeat

If you are talking about who they were that day, Lilladahl is not winning. He had a terrible tournament for a champ.

Top 3 i'd love to see: 197, 157, HVY. 165 good on paper but I think MM controls that match.

Could you expound on your 165 thoughts?  I feel you would definitely be in the minority w/ that stance but I am curious your rationale

Mesenbrink doesn't shut it down. There wouldn't be much mat wrestling and I think MM scores at least 2 TD's. With todays rules id say 10-4- MM 3 td's.

I think Ringer would be able to ride Mesenbrink but if the match plays out how you think I see your point; thanks for elaborating

Certainly not saying MM can't win, but I don't see late college career Deringer not getting a TD in a 7 minute match.

Of course. Would love to see the match regardless. Ringer was the best wrestler in the sport when I was most entrenched with it, so i'd be pulling for him in this hyopthetical!

Zero argument here, just let them wrestle 20 straight minutes.

With eligibility rules now, when we do this 10 years from now in 2037 it might be the same person.

There is only one degree of seperation from the finalists in 2016 and 2026. In 2016, Bryce Meredith wrestled for the 141 title. He later wrestled Yianni in 2018 for the title, who went on to wrestle Van Ness in the 2023 semi finals

125 LL decision

133 Jax major. And this isn't final form Jax which is scary.

141 Vega decision

149 Rutherford major or tech

157 Imar decision. That was the year he beat Nolf 2x.

165 MM decision. He would give up a takedown. He is also really, really good. Like, beats up the Hodge winning 3x'er good.

174 Haines major

184 Dean decision, one takedown match that could go either way

197 Cox, one takedown match

285 Snyder major if 3 point TD, decision if 2 point TD

i am an idiot on the internet

That call has skewed our appreciation of Robideau. If he comes out next year with a chip on his shoulder, we'll know why.

Edit: crazy how a tournament where he notched two get-backs, beat the heavy favorite, and won the title has hurt his reputation.
