55kg- Nowry

60kg- Black

63kg- Manville by bully, but, this weight is legitimately wide open... any one of 7 could win it and i would not be surprised...

67kg- Black

72kg- Sancho just because, but, interested to see what Perez looks like coming back from a long lay off at a new weight and Peak is always a threat domestically...

77kg- you have to logically pick Kikinou Sr just because, but, if you stay out of cray tie up for the arm spin he has no other offense... Adams up at 77kg is probably a function of better odds to make the U23 team, but, that kid is not scared... Skellenger might be ready to make a jump... sentimental favorite is Holmes, but, he looked really rusty in crotia last month after a long lay off...

82kg- Bey looked much better at 82kg at Albania than i expected... probably better than he has overseas in years... i think he dog walks the weight...

87kg- Jacobson... he just came off his first world medal at U23 and is wrestling really well... but, Melelashvili is coming up from 82kg and that is super interesting to me... Beka was a huge 82kg and i think he might feel really good up a weight... love both kids, so, it will be tough to watch that best 2 out of 3...

97kg- weakest weight domestically by a country mile... Rogotzke is the only one who is interesting... he hasn't done greco is a minute and might turn some heads...

130kg- you have to say Schultz until someone else proves themselves... he is coming off his first ever European International medal... obviously coon has to be talked about... Attao far and away the most athletic and gifted but still has not found a way to overcome the frame differences he faces at senior heavy...

I would love to see Attao at least try to go 97kg. Doesn't make sense to me why he would stay 130 with his stature if he has no interest in being a collegiate heavyweight.

he would die trying to make 97kg...

simple as that...

Kayaalp is the same height and has figured it out against anyone not named Lopez...

Attao has plenty of time to figure it out...

Fair enough. Easy to forget how young he and others are when they've been making the rounds so long. Also easy for me to have an opinion when I'm not the one that'd have to make the weight

yeah...

he wasn't even trying to make 220 at age level fargo 5 years ago and that is still 7lbs higher than 97kg...

with the life span of heavy weight wrestlers he could very easily still compete for another 15 years if he avoids major injuries... he has time to continue to build up strength and just learn how to deal with taller big boys...

he is a 2X U20 world medalist... he has all the skills to do it...

schultz just won his first senior medal outside of our continent and he has been doing seniors since 2019...

At the 2024 Oly Trials; one of the things I oversaw was the operation of getting finalist's family members mat side for their matches and moving winners/losers families out for the next set of families to come in.  Jacobson's family was by far the easiest to work with.  Some of it was definitely a byproduct of the run he went on so there was some "happy to be here" vibes but they seemed like genuinely good people.

Also to clarify, no one had a family that was bad to deal with - they were just overly polite and joyful and most family members were more nervous and anxious.

NLWC continues their annual tradition of not signing up yet so it's hard to figure out who's going. I'm going to operate under the assumption that any PSU/NLWC wrestler who has qualified will WTT will not be at the US Open as of making my upcoming incorrect predictions.

57 Spencer Freakin' Lee

61 Jax. Davino and Blaze will meet at WTT with the Final X spot on the line.

65 Mendez over Bassett in a barnburner

70 Henson

74 Carr. Looking forward to seeing Kannon Webster's debut on the senior circuit.

79 KOT. Lowkey this is the beginning of a make or break comeback year. Methinks Hamiti takes out Chance if they meet up.

Good luck to Mike Kelly from Old School Wrestling. I hope he dusts off his Air Jordan wrestling/boxing shoes.

86 Kyle Dake has never won a fantasy match or prediction. Naturally, he will tech his real life way to Final X.

92 Cardenas over Mike Macch

97 Buchanan I guess? There is no one at 97 this year if Zillmer doesn't show up. Was hoping Cass would try to descend again.

125 Parris, Kerk, Hendrickson, Cassioppi sounded awesome in 2021. I am unconfidently picking Parris. My how the times have changed...

60kg is such a stacked weight, Black, Raney, Richards, Roberts, then Dean Peterson makes it interesting (when was the last time he completed in greco?), plus a couple other solid guys with age level success. whens the registration deadline? couldn't find it anywhere.

60kg is far and away the most stacked division domestically and it is the toughest weight internationally of all the styles...

Is Coon not entered?

Lilledahl is going for another feel. He is closer than anyone outside of the PSU casuals cult realizes. Blaze/Jax will be awesome.

Since you are our resident Greco guy (welcome back by the way) - any insight as to Dean Peterson's greco acumen?  Is he just having some fun or has he really been working on it? Expected to make a splash?

Posted

i have no clue why Peterson is trying greco... i don't know if he has ever wrestled it before...

but, no... he will not make any waves... 60 is the deepest weight domestically and i would be very surprised if he even picked up a backside win... he will not have any seeding consideration and will undoubtedly get someone who knows greco off jump...

Iowa obviously tried to entertain Greco a little bit when Otto initially committed to them and Terry had Desanto training and traveling with Otto... they also have Leister Bowling who took 5th at U20 Worlds in greco last year and should take the spot again at U20 next week... it may just be an under current going through the room now...

i do like him jumping in so "fans" can get a little bit of perspective...

well...

the greco matchup i am most interested in is Jacobson and Melelashvili at 87...

they will be separated with seeding and i do not see anyway they do not make the finals for the best 2 out of 3...
