Maybe, but it might make things worse.  If MM made such a statement, his detractors would probably say it was just more "performative and self-aggrandizing" behavior by him.

Interestingly, the day after the match Bo Nickal posted exactly what you're suggesting MM should do (see below).  However, that doesn't seem to have tamped things down much.

It's an unfortunate situation.  I don't think either Caliendo or Mesenbrink is deserving of being maligned over this incident.

I’m glad Bo wrote that and I wish many others chose the route of compassion over criticism. Not a fan of Bo these days but he did the right thing.

Great mentality and attitude about it.

"I mean, people think it was a handshake, but that's just the surface layer. When I extended my hand, it wasn't really about sportsmanship, it was actually a paradigm shift, bro. It was more like I was clearing ties and saying, "let's engage" but on a different level. And if Mikey;s not in a place to receive that, it's okay. That's just part of the process and I can't worry about things that are out of my control. Everyone's on their own path, you know? I mean, for me, it's bigger than winning a tournament. It's about continuing to evolve through the experience. But yeah, it wasn't like Mikey disrespected me by not shaking my hand. It was just him philosophically circling back to center and evolving. That's really all it is, bro."

I guess the Kant seminar was full.

anyone pretending to be offended by caliendo is a disingenuous tool.

The people who are offended by caliendo are the same people that side with the Penn state fan that yelled at Jordan boroughs

They exist in Facebook and Instagram comment sections, not to many of them on the forums tho, most who use forum 'know ball"

Yeah...i have a very confrontational buddy who would go after other coaches quick, but if we were at a youth thing and it was "just a dad" he never paid attention. Thats how I feel about FB comments and such.

I feel a little different about X cause I can't stomach some moron who has dubbed themselves "Cradle Guru" coming at me with wisdom like "Iowa isn't the threat to PSU....OSU is!"

One of them could have punched the other and I wouldn’t be offended lol

sometimes I wonder if performative pearl clutching is literally a hobby these days

its just a function of dumb people who want to feel important, which gets particularly bad when you have a team thats so successful that these morons think they are bulletproof as long as they can retreat to "PSU good".

I just can’t believe a handshake snub is still an ongoing topic of discussion…really because it is a PSU wrestler. While I would have thought kicking opponents, pushing them off mats into dangerous situations etc would have warranted a lengthier discussion than they got…

I forgot I posted that and regret it. Dude has made an important realization about the ephemeral nature of success, fame, glory ... life and shouldn't be mocked for his inability to put this realization into coherent prose. It's f*ck8ng hard to do for professional academics. He's majoring in wrestling.

Apologies.

It's because the video went viral and now casuals and non-wrestling fans are chiming in about it. A work colleague (who knows nothing about wrestling but knows I follow the sport) sent me a link to the vid a week or two ago. Probably doesn't affect Iowa or Caliendo in any way, but not a great look.
