Did anyone other than hardcore Columbia wrestling fans even know about this guy?  Wild that he came out of nowhere as the 12 seed to get 3rd at 165.  I can see Nicolls throwing him a bag to be the next Caliendo.

This is what happens at NCAAs. Someone comes out of no where and makes a name for themselves.

Perhaps having a 2X NC at 165 for a head coach helped with his development.

Craig Henning got screwed in the 2007 NCAA Finals.

I’d imagine Rivera is probably closer to his weight than Pritzlaff

Talk about Donnie Pritlaff!  He was Barry Davis' guy at Wisconsin, Joe McFarland's guy at Michigan, and Scott Goodale's guy at Rutgers. Good to see him get props for turning things around at Columbia. How long until someone lures him away?

He said in his flo interview he wrestles with Rivera every single day and that’s why he believes he can beat anyone

Remember what Pritzlaff did for Indiana boy  Andrew Howe.

Zeek yes!  - I’ve been sitting here trying to recall his name. He’s the kid out of district 11 pa. Unseeded and made it to the finals. Even beat Gilman if I recall.

He did more than that. He pinned Gilman with a nasty first period takedown cradle. He also beat Nashon Garrett

He was a PIAA AA Champ wrestled for Bethlehem Catholic.

He beat #15 seed Tolbert from Utah Valley then beat #2 seed (and ncaa champ) Nashon Garrett then beat AA and #7 seed Kilmura from ok state then pinned #3 (world champ)  Gilman in the semis then lost a high school state finals rematch against Nato

basically the only good moments of Hensons entire West Virginia stint

Ironman final, not HS state final. Tomasello was not from PA/PIAA

Fair enough it was 11 years ago I remember during the finals the announcers saying they wrestled in high school last year and being mind blown by that fact

Good for him! I love to see unheralded wrestlers have success at the NCAA tournament. Success like his is what makes this tournament so enjoyable.

I already knew Zeke pretty well from high HS days, so when he went on his run at NCAAs I was already familiar with him, but yes it was a wild run.

Yea you bring it back vividly. This why I really never place too much value on seeds and rankings. Any guy with the right mindset and healthy can wrestle beyond the expectations of others.

Sucks because this is what happens in all sports now. It's happening right now in March Madness. An Auburn coach is catching some heat for going to a mid-major conference tournament to shop around for transfers. NIL and portal era problems.

Another big one was Kyle Connell from Kent State beating Moore from tOSU not once, but twice to finish 3rd.

Then he transferred to hew state.

but it was an inspirational run yes

Hot take: Alvan's low-profile is why Lockett fell apart on the backside. He thought that he lost to a nobody, and this cranked his imposter syndrome to 11.

(I know. I know... he had a win. Still, I'm pretty convinced)
