I’m ok with that. Would have liked to have had Yianni, he would maybe put a different spin on the “Iowa Way”, not that TandT would have paid attention to it anyway.

I’m ready quoting myself. What the hell. Damn it get some new ideas in tje room!

They really didn't...

Well, this is pretty much it for Hawkeye fans. Hawkeye wrestling fans have now become Nebraska football fans where we keep living in the pasts and all we do is hire people who once were part of the program and bringing them back and expecting change except for it doesn't work and they are still trying it. I love Jacob Warner. I enjoyed watching him wrestle, which apparently others didn't. I enjoyed watching him wrestle, but this was not the correct decision for the new assistant coach. They had the opportunity to go out of their comfort zone to show a level of change that would benefit a program that needed more scrambling, more offense, better positional awareness, and just an overall change for power of recruiting and they have definitely failed to do that. I have a hard time believing that they didn't interview someone else that wasn't at least a one-time individual national champion. I just can't fathom it

Here's an interesting thought I just had: Maybe Tom doesn't want a national champ assistant coach in the fear they might get a head coaching position somewhere and poach the wrestlers just like he did at Virginia Tech, or maybe  they're afraid the dude can change the game there so much he ends up pushing the Brands out like Cael did Bobby Douglas. The D1 coaching game can be super cutthroat. What David Taylor, one of Cael's greatest athletes is doing at Okie State right now is probably not helping their confidence. Especially considering how lackluster Iowa's season was right before they were able to somewhat get it together at nationals

If your scared someone you bring in is better than you, you are already losing. A good coach should surround themselves with other good coaches

Brands' don't strike me as fearful...

Well I would consider the Brands to be control freaks personally. Control usually comes from fear so I'm not saying they are I just wouldn't be surprised if that was the case

They would need a number of years of assistant coaching experience before they would land a  head coaching position.... then they would have to land that position at a school that has enough money  to poach from Iowa who spends the most poaching from other programs.  Tom Brands is 58. His current contract has 3 years left. He could be retiring at 61 at the end of this contract. Now would be the time to actually  hire that assistant....however they have to be Bob approved, which means an Iowa guy.

That is an interesting point of view and one I would entertain for sure, kind of sad tho too. I can understand why someone would be fearful of that happening but brands have to also consider that they are not too dawg anymore, and that they aren't hiding any secrets, and they aren't winning any huge recruiting battles, so I'm not sure they should be fearful of losing anything, yet they definitely seem to have been with this hire. Its becoming pretty annoying as a a fan. At this point in the year I just have to hope Isu can play the portal well, as they are a much more enjoyable team to watch during the dual season imo last year.

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

Brands are stubborn. They don't want new ideas, they want better execution of their ideas. We'll see how it pans out.

Their ideas are from the 80s. The only thing that could save Iowa is a push out rule... Iowas way of wrestling is way outdated

I understand it isnt likely possible, but i hope someone shows this to Beth Goetz..

The best possible thing they can do for the iowa wrestling program is dump the entire coaching staff. We're in a different age of wrestling and TnT have proven they're dinosaurs in the new era. If you want to compete with the other top teams in the country a complete overhaul is needed.

The era of social media has taken over wrestling. Kids want to go where their favorite wrestler is. Throw money at Jason Nolf, KOT, Askren, Yianni, or hell...Spencer Lee. The only other option is Iowa wrestling dropping to the 8-10 range..

It's very possible that no potentially great asst. coach candidates that are out there want to go there because of TnT. It was nice seeing that at least they had the self awareness to pursue someone like Yianni that could help fill gaps in their scrambling and creative wrestling positions.

But to land on Warner tells me there just isn't anyone that wants to go be apart of that environment. I'm sure they grind on their asst. coaches just like the wrestlers and most new up and coming guys in the coaching ranks weren't apart of programs like that and don't want to be even if it is at Iowa. Hence the Iowa retreads all sharing the same brain.

Willie and Basch made a great point in the last few weeks.

What up and coming assistant or world teamer would risk joining Iowa staff without any contingencies? Say, if Tom was gone in a year or two and said assistant had to start fresh looking for another gig. They’d maybe be interested if there was a clause saying they could be head coach.

Do the ex wrestlers of Iowa or the opponents for that matter, complain about how terrible TnT are?
