We've given you a visa and you decide to do that — we're going to take it away," Rubio said in a recent news conference. None of these students has been charged with a crime. Instead, the government is using a rarely invoked immigration act that allows the secretary of state to revoke immigration status if the secretary deems their presence a threat to U.S. foreign policy.

Wouldn't be my choice of words, but I bet Bo has used it at least once!

I'm guessing they don't want some "bowling" style celebration, so they are covering all bases? Flagrant misconduct would generally be a punch, a brutal headbutt, a bite, etc. Not a thrown headgear. I would imagine a situation came up last year where a ref thought a kid did something flagrant and it was a mistake. I'll give an example: When a shrug first started becoming big in the 90s, I taught my team the technique. My state champ 171 attempted one in a match. The ref had not been evolving with the sport and thought my guy had thrown a forearm shiver. He was penalized, thankfully not a flagrant. It only takes one or two situations like this for a rule to be put into place.

He's not an edgelord though. he's more like someone with main character syndrome whose plot just collapsed.

As a ref, I'm already seeing the ways this can be gamed. I'd love to let Bouzakis up to avoid the reversal and not even have to give up an escape point.

Don't tell Bo that! He thinks he is full of 'rizz. Honestly, I was not a fan of his in college. I liked his style but couldn't stand his blue hair or most of his interviews. Guy was good though. I have been rooting for him in MMA, though. Honestly, I have been rooting for him in the way that Mineo thinks we should all be rooting for him. He's a wrestler; I support wrestlers. At the same time, I am fine with Iowa (or other) fans who wanted him to be humbled. It is their right, and the guy has been cringe. But what I saw against Paul Craig, and even worse against RDR, has left me very disappointed in him.

I actually do. A controlling ride looking to break the bottom wrestler down. The tactic of as soon as the bottom wrestler gets to their feet, you run them to the edge and "attempt" a return going out of bounds.. or dropping to a leg as soon as the bottom wrestler is about to escape.. should be called stalling more frequently, but the refs don't want to "decide" the match so the tactic is allowed. But I agree. Ride outs is about the worst way to decide a winner of a wrestling match that I could imagine. Getting a match to ride outs is the best way for an inferior wrestler to pull off an upset (Seymour over Lilledahl). Anything can happen in those 30 seconds, and choice is huge. It's not nearly as bad, but it's kind of like the old ball grab era in freestyle.

I feel like there's an opportunity in pro wrestling for a mouthy edgelord heel. He'd do well in that character

Is the D1 wrestling-to-UFC pipeline nearly closed?
Tripnsweep replied to peanut's topic in College Wrestling
I don't think being a good to great D1 wrestler is a guarantee of success anymore. A lot of the guys mentioned, Bader, Dollaway, Velasquez, etc they started fighting 15+ years ago. Back then if you could get a high level wrestler to learn some good basic kickboxing and BJJ, they would be pretty good based on being a slightly better athlete and having a grinder mentality. Now things have changed. There's more money at stake now, and the guys fighting now and coming up are better athletes, more well rounded and have developed good enough wrestling for MMA or good enough for the way they fight. And wrestling for MMA is very different from college wrestling. So the advantages that good D1 guys have are more evident at the lower levels, but once you get into the top 10-15 at each weight, you're getting guys who train full time and have the knowledge, skills and mentality to counter those advantages. -

martial arts Is wrestling a martial art?
CHROMEBIRD replied to Hopa12's topic in International Wrestling
Maybe a more important question for you is, why do you care? For most of us here, it probably doesn't matter if someone categorizes wrestling a martial art, or a sport, or a lifestyle, or a challenge or what; just that we have gotten or continue to get what we and others want from it. What are you trying to get out of wrestling? From this and your other TLDR post, it sounds like you decided to give wrestling a try but have doubts that it will prepare you for MMA. Or that it doesn't teach you self-defense skills. Or that you think it relies too much on strength & endurance rather than technique. Or something else, I don't know, it's hard to tell if you're earnestly asking or just philosophizing, or if you're one of Jimmy's alts trolling us. But try taking a step back and thinking about what you want out of wrestling, then ask us specifically how wrestling can or cannot help you get there. You'll likely get more thoughtful and useful responses. -

As a former pro wrestling guy I doubt it. In terms of charisma Bo makes Steveson look like Julius Caesar.

For sure. He looked bad. Like really bad

Bo may be a better athlete than those two, but he isn't half the fighter. I hope he becomes that guy, but spamming overhand rights like he's playing a video game is not the way to do it. He has to become far more skillful, and not be so bothered by the slightest strike or the first time something doesn't go according to plan. He wilted. The wilt was both cardio and in terms of his willingness to deal with damage. Maybe it was a liver kick that put him down, but the fight was trending in the wrong way way before that.
-
Justin outstruck fiziev in two fights and Fiziev is one of the best pure strikers in the MMA. His striking has gotten very good under Trevor Wittman. Edit: he also ko'd and outstruck poirier the last time they fought.
-
What I am saying is Bo has more talent to become a better skillful striker with his hands like Cain Velasquez. Neither Gaethje or Chandler have that talent nor did they ever possess that. Poirier pieced them both up because both of them have the same blueprint; head down, move forward, swing. Their hand skills are average. And yes, Gaethje has an awesome leg kick. His KO of Poirier in the rematch was nuts
-
Are you comparing him vs those guys with the same experience of NOW? Gaethje's leg kicks are better than anything in Bo's arsenal. Power is part of being talented. So is the ability to take shots and not quit and continue to fight. Both Chandler and Gaethje have warred with and defeated excellent fighters with their striking. Nickal... not so much.

Any amount of specificity you could supply would be appreciated. I’ll help define it for you. I don’t want it to go over your head. Specificity means how exact or specific something is. For example: If you say, “I saw dog,” that’s not very specific. But if you say, “I saw a big brown dog with floppy ears wearing a red collar,” that’s using specificity — you gave more details to help someone understand exactly what you mean. So, specificity is just giving clear and exact information!
