I knew someone would bring them up. They no doubt have often had guys over seeded when they were in the MAC (which they never wanted to be in), but that happens in every conference but the Big 10 and, to a lesser degree, the Big 12. That said, they got the seeds they deserved based on their results, and they always scheduled tough tournaments and non-conference duals. Big 10 fan boys just get butt hurt about seeds because they beat each other up all season (or at least they used to prior to the increase in the duck population), and it hurts their seeds. Mizzou is a perennial top 10 team. Anyone who thinks they actually regularly underperform realistic expectations (vs. inflated seeds) is an idiot.

This shape would not interlock. They would need to be 6-sided (hexagon) in order to fit together tightly. Even then, it wouldn't really allow you to fit more mats into any arena, where you can usually fit two rows at most. I think this is purely a form rather than function thing. But I think they look cool.

You can also get slammed from top and have it called against you. https://youtu.be/bhj9N6_Gp3M

Yeah, I don't think it was malicious as Gomez wrestles with high intensity, but it looked to me like he left his own feet, which will definitely get you DQ. He also brought him down on his head. If you have your opponent up in the air, it is your responsibility to bring them down in a safe and controlled manner.

One of the most annoying things announcers can do is to try and force various catch phrases. "Resilite", "hasta lasagna, don't get any on ya", etc.

They did well through the semis. Little disappointed with the finals performance. Six guys in the finals and only one champ (wins in tiebreaker). Two lost to guys they beat just a couple of weeks ago. I was impressed with Hart, who looks to have stepped it up a notch. He was handled by Alirez, but I think Alirez will win 141. Hopefully Hart can get on the podium. I won't overreact to O'Toole getting pinned. I think he made some adjustments from the first match and will have some new ideas if they meet again, which I hope they do. 165 is a meat grinder and O'Toole will have a rough path, and even a good a Carr looks, he's no guarantee to make the finals. He was in a close battle in the Big 12 semis.

I think O'Toole will get the 2, but getting the 3 may not be the worst thing if the seeds play out as listed above otherwise. Kennedy is no cake walk, but a step below Griffith.

Can we all at least agree the greco team should be cheating? I mean nothing else is working for them. -
Saving 165 for last. Good choice. I hope O'Toole has made some adjustments.

You have to praise Jesus. But you don't want to be trained by him. He knows very little about wrestling.

Enlighten me please. I'm only "watching" on track. Went from 6-4 to 4-4. And then back to 6-4.

Schwartz beat him 6-1 not that long ago, and then he lost to Young a couple days later. Seems he's found a little fire here in the post-season. I like it. The only real disappointment for Mizzou the far has been Jaques.

And as I post that Carr gets a takedown.
-
It will be very disappointing if Hall beats Carr. I want a rematch.

How was the match going before the fall? Glad to see him turning it on at the right time.

Mizzou is looking pretty good so far. Nine guys in the semis. Brown and Hawks are heavy underdogs, to say the least, but the rest are favorites or only slight dogs to make the finals.

The exception that proves the rule? How much time did he spend with the ankle hooked?

I think they will cancel the tournament and then cancel NCAAs because there is no time to reschedule everything. Give everyone in the top 30 AA status and give next year's freshmen an extra year of eligibility. But in all seriousness, aren't there warmer places in Big 10 country to host the tournament?
-
I thought everything about his wrestling looked off. Did you see his first match against White? It looked like a couple of guys in practice at the end of a long season that agreed to expend very little effort, yet both guys looked exhausted at the end. It just seemed uninspired, like he doesn't even know why he's wrestling anymore, but perhaps I'm being a little harsh.

Quickly scanned through the matches on YouTube. For the most part our guys liked pretty bad. You would have thought Gilman was suffering from a bad weight cut and Kemerer looked particularly disinterested.
-
Lee does have a higher average place in senior level tournaments than Gilman does....

Went there once when I was a kid. Didn't really like the shoulder to shoulder fishing.

I would argue that's a reason to get more of our refs on the international scene. It would be better if the refs that work our domestic tournaments (at least our top tier refs) had international experience and training, then they would call the domestic matches the way they would be called overseas. And hopefully that would precipitate down to our less experienced referees. (Trickle down. Doesn't work in economics, but might work in refereeing.) It was on the edge of the mat. But regardless, if Ukr gets 4 (the right call imo), then that became his move, and he is allowed to expose his back in the process. Zahid needed to do something to earn exposure pts after that. They should not just be giving away free points for aggression (though perhaps now there is some sort of emphasis to do so). One thing that really separates free from folk that a lot of our guys struggle with is the need to maintain control throughout those positions so you don't get exposed. If you are over aggressive, you will give up points. I also think we typically see 4-2 when the guy taking the shot gets a 4 pt feet-to-back but then gets wrapped over for 2 from the defensive wrestler. That is how the ref originally scored it, but was switched upon review.
-
I don't think the screenshot tells the story here. I think Zahid would have had to do something to earn the exposure, such as stopping the motion of the roll while Ukr was in danger. But they rolled through the chest wrap about a cleanly as you can. You wouldn't give the defensive wrestler 2 on a gut wrench if the offensive wrestler broke his lock while on his back but continued through the motion unimpeded by the defensive wrestler. He would have to stop the offensive wrestler's motion. (Not completely analogous situations, but you get my point.) But, as I mentioned above, the only scenario I see as possible, barring a more egregious scoring error, is for them to have given Zahid a 2 pt exposure after the 4 pt throw. So perhaps you're right, and while watching frame by frame during the challenge, they saw something that didn't really happen.
-
Maybe that was the justification. I don't see any way Zahid could be given 2 pts (TD or exposure) prior to the 4 pt throw. I think the only way for Zahid to have earned 2, if scored correctly, would be if he was given credit for exposing Ukr after the 4 pt throw. But he would have had to hold him there and not just a continuous roll through, which I don't see.
