  1. Let's do a hypothetical comparison. What about Steiber? He competed attached in 5 seasons. He took multiple losses during his first freshman season and most likely wouldn't have won the national title. An injury allowed him to wipe that season out and start over, and then he won 4 straight. Is that more impressive to you than what O'Toole has the potential to do? (Mind we are counting our chickens, here.) The argument is that only Dake is actually 4 out of 4 as all others took a redshirt of some sort. The difference being that O'Toole was effectively allowed to compete as an attached athlete during the season he would have otherwise redshirted. If he was a year older and took a redshirt in 2020 and then had 5 NCAA tournaments to win 4 titles, it would be a different story.
  2. True. It should count for more. He effectively placed third in a redshirt season and then (hypothetically) rattled off four in a row. I'm being a bit facetious, as all 4xer runs are great for different reasons, but he still needs to win number 3 before we worry about where to rank him amongst the other guys.
  3. Well, so far, Mizzou has put one highly ranked guy on the mat and 125 is a shitshow. Not sure how we don't have a back up 133, Edmond put up a decent effort and I don't even know who Mylin is. Where is Setzler? Started writing this before Mauller lost. I said earlier I would not be surprised to see him lose to Travis. Travis is going to be a multiple AA.
  4. Pretty poor start to senior day.
  5. Travis' dad is also a former Mizzou wrestler. Wish he'd chosen the same path. I think he's going to be pretty damn good and would not be surprised if he pulled off the upset. Some really good matchups in this one.
  6. Threat to what or who? In the last 10+ years, only Iowa twice (which includes Covid year) and Ohio State once have been threats to win the team title over PSU. Mizzou has become a perennial top 10 team under Smith while rarely pulling in a blue chipper. He has guys consistently outperforming their recruiting status. If anything, he needs to consistently bring in more top recruits to be consistently in the running for a team trophy, but he is absolutely one of the best and most consistent coaches.
  7. Yeah, his case is an example of a terrible seeding job rather than an unexpected run. Was penalized by the seeding committee for being injured for a significant time. His dominance in the tournament may have been a bit surprising, but AAing certainly was not.
  8. He always does. Must figure it's his catch phrase. One of the many annoying things about listening to him.
  9. As a native Columbian, I've never called it that. But, it is common parlance in the region (unlike "the Lou", which is only used as a gimmick).
  10. I think takedowns should be worth 6 points, and then you get to attempt a fieldgoal for an extra point. Alternatively, you can opt to try for 2 points by kicking one of the Brands bros. in the nuts.
  11. With the top 5 qualifying, what's the point? To keep a high school kid from qualifying for the trials? It's fun for us to get to see these guys wrestle more, but I don't see "stealing a spot" as being beneficial to an already qualified wrestler.
  12. Here's a guy with culture and class. Chili cheese dog, chili cheese fries, and a homemade root beer float from Mugs Up is where it's at. Only in the off season, of course.
  13. BBQ, No. Shakespeare's is great. Gumby's is only acceptable at 2am. Imo's....gross. Steak n Shake is ok, but never eat there. White Castle, never.
  14. And you call yourself a tiger fan? Also, mustard is gross.
  15. Ummmm..... this is not a legitimate question.
  16. The Iranian that Kolat wrestled who kept untying his shoes, which led to the rule that laces must be taped. As a fan, the Dean Heil rule is the best change in the last 20 years.
  17. Spencer Lee is the most interesting storyline this Olympic year. Hailed as the next coming since high school. He has had an unusual career thus far with some tremendous success, some major bumps in the road, and far less freestyle than anyone could have expected. He has shown flashes of a level that none of these other guys can hit, but also an Achilles heel or two. The biggest Lee fans out there have to admit it wouldn't be shocking for him to gas out and get beat in the second period by a guy we've never heard of. And the biggest Lee detractors have to admit it wouldn't be shocking for him to go out and blow the doors off the competition.
  18. Yeah, that's definitely the reason all these folks are crammed into the 86kg class. Not because we need at least two more weight classes so the tweaners have an appropriate weight class.
  19. Seems the chances he's a 125 are pretty slim. He did pretty well against college guys at 133 earlier this season, and he's got a couple more years of high school.
  20. Is it really ducking if you have lost to someone and are ranked behind them? There's no real advantage to skipping the match, ranking/seeding wise. There is an advantage to skipping matches against someone you have beaten and are ranked ahead of because the rankers and seeding criteria don't penalize for doing so.
  21. Why is Griffith a NCAA champ but Carr is only a former champ?
  22. Andonian is a hard guy to use as a benchmark. There are obvious positive to take away for Shapiro. He stayed positional sound the entire match and never gave in to any of the crazy stuff Andonian goes for, but Andonian will happily go down by double digits just to try and put a guy to his back. And the 3 point takedown really punishes sloppy wrestling. Results against him, win or lose, don't translate well to matches against any other wrestlers.
  23. Flo had a video of him drilling yesterday prior to the tournament, so have to assume he was there with intentions to wrestle this weekend.
  24. Jordan Burroughs and Kyle Snyder would have strong pull for any middle or upper weights, respectively.
  25. He absolutely blitzed Tyler Caldwell (NCAA runner up to David Taylor) in freestyle. And that was when A. Valencia peaked.....
