  1. I don't remember if the last place dark horse roster were serious picks, as folks sometimes joke around, but check out who those dark horse all-stars would've beaten out in the final team scores. Impressive!
  2. I'm doubtful that Teemer finishes the tournament. My very close second pick was Siebrecht.
  3. I just noticed that last year's winning dark horse team would've finished 18th out of 64 at Nationals, outplacing Wisconsin, Minny, Oklahoma, Oregon State, and UNC, among other programs. Nice. Here are my picks: 125 - #19 Cooper Flynn (MINN) 133 - #21 Angelo Rini (IND) 141 - #24 Jason Miranda (STAN) 149 - #33 Teague Travis (OKST) 157 - #20 Trevor Chumbley (NU) 165 - #26 Paddy Galagher (OHST) 174 - #21 Joshua Ogunsanya (UNC) 184 - #22 Donnell Washington (IND) 197 - #25 Patrick Brophy (CIT) Hwt - #26 Peter Ming (STAN)
  4. I like Ramos, but think he has a really rough half of the bracket just to make the finals
  5. Hah, I was wondering while reading this thread if Palacio is still doing his social media schtick
  6. Tom Ryan's fine. His coaching at Big Tens wasn't very Positive Infinity, though.
  7. Also great to see ugarles and maybe Scribe (not sure if it's him) posting again. Best of luck to Cornell at NCAAs.
  8. CYA but not CYD, so these are still legal
  9. Agree, Hardy has a lot of fun matches, though his rubber knees make me nervous sometimes. Would be great if he makes it to the top of the podium and erases that NCAA meme of himself.
  10. Cal Poly just cut its swimming & diving programs. Fairly deep cut, about 60 athletes total. The AD said the dept is in rough financial shape (as is the university) and the upcoming House settlement and pay to play stuff will set them back nearly another half mil per year. He also shut down fundraising, saying it's not a viable option. Hopefully wrestling's in the uni's good graces. Cal Poly has I think 20 of the NCAA minimum 14 sports, and wrestling is not a required sport in their primary conferences (Big West/Big Sky) or the Pac-12.
  11. I think you can if you wear them with a singlet
  12. I think it's more fun to have favorite wrestlers rather than favorite teams. They're not totally mutually exclusive, but they don't have to 100% overlap either.
  13. Wow, the data cleanup sounds like a nightmare. How far back did you go? Or are you talking about the data for this season only? There's (free?) software that can standardize, de-duplicate, and scrub records from a flat file. B2B CRM bolt-ons may be particularly well suited since you have wrestlers (contacts) attached to teams (organizations). I'm also wondering how granular the data from Track is. Like is there enough to produce a wrestling version of KenPom advanced analytics? Or are your rankings meant to be more declarative than predictive?
  14. I just want to know what the altered underwear was all about. Or do I?
  15. +Nolf. You know, everyday talent.
  16. I saw ZachMack standing next to Poeta and did a double take, like huh... I didn't realize Mike was so short
  17. It's brutal when you have a guy that would be a national champion if only it weren't for that one guy year after year. Sorenson (Zain), DSJ (Taylor until he graduated), Palmer (Metcalf)... etc
  18. When Brands took over the HC job, he brought Gable on staff as an assistant. Many will say that's a big reason why Iowa was able to get back on its feet so quickly after Zalesky. I think Brands is about as close to Gable as you can get. Unfortunately, I think doing things the Gable way will only get you so far today. The game has changed.
  19. If Parco is losing big late in the 3rd place match, I hope he tees off on his opponent and gets DQed. Gotta finish strong and definitively.
  20. Folks on the tOSU boards may be projecting their frustration. I can't remember the last time Tom Ryan had such a rough tournament. Caught everyone by surprise.
