  1. Maybe we'll see Hamiti up at 285 after he discovers Eskimo Joe's
  2. I noticed that under UWW's age rules JB is eligible to wrestle Veterans Worlds now
  3. The price tag still on the sleeve If only AJ understood the difference between people laughing with him vs. people laughing at him
  4. Middle school greyshirt is wild, but RBY is open about it. But I was under the impression that his guardian held him back because he was a scrawny kid from South Tucson with not great social skills and prone to getting beaten up, and his mom was away in rehab. Idk if the year off was just to game high school wrestling.
  5. NIL deals can't compensate an athlete for attending an institution or competing, but I believe agreements could be structured around an athlete residing within a certain geographic locale. I think there are already deals like that in football and basketball. I wouldn't be surprised if some companies finesse the language of NIL deals to try to keep an athlete around, as there are cases where an athlete taking a deal and then bolting at the end of the season could be detrimental to a brand or marketing campaign. NIL laws are per state and school, though, so it's a kitten rodeo right now.
  6. Thing were rough for Northwestern after Pariano left and didnt' get better when Howe and the assistants took off during Covid. The other thing NU has going against it are its academics, compounded by being on a quarter system. The season can span all three quarters. That's two sets of finals, with Big Tens usually around the same time as Winter quarter finals week, and also missing out on spring break. All on top of training, competing, and cutting weight. Similar for Stanford. Mentally, that can be pretty tough compared to equally competitive schools that are on the semester system.
  7. Right, 100% a compliance issue. He can't coach or have a financial interest/incentive in a club or other org where a prospective athlete from the same sport trains or competes. Bizzarely, if Askren spun off a separate AWA women's club (AWAW?) he'd be able to take the Wisconsin job because men's and women's wrestling are considered different sports.
  8. MM said Cal Baptist was the only one who recruited him until he started getting good his senior year. Wanted to go to PSU but chose to honor his commitment to Cal Bap and stuck it out for a year.
  9. Are you sure you heard that right? Just before Pac-12s Figs mentioned getting through rehab or something similar, but he was talking specifically about injuries.
  10. We need a version of the UWW's transfer compensation rule
  11. Really hoping to see Figs at OTT or U23s
  12. Grad transfer rule predates Covid
  13. Northwestern would've been happy to have him, plus he'd be close to home
  14. Clips of the spladle went viral on social media, mostly ppl laughing or wondering wtf was happening. I guess that's one way to #GrowTheSport among casual fans Respect to Hardy for being a good sport about it. I hope he and his asscheeks get an NIL deal out of this
  15. Hamiti was lighting guys up as a true freshman and walked into the postseason with a 91% bonus rate and just one loss
  16. Unpopular opinion: Hamiti is fine and doesn't need to transfer. His wrestling has looked a lot better this year. He was destroying just about everyone and went into the postseason with only 1 loss (Carr) and an 84% bonus rate. We all expected Hamiti to AA, but he had a tough draw in arguably the toughest weight and finished with losses to the national champion (Carr x2), the runner-up (MM), and Olejnik. No shame there. I don't think Bono or the program has failed Hamiti.
  17. Brands having a finalist every year since he's been head coach.... ... Brands having zero wrestlers win their finals matches this past weekend (has that ever happened before? @Wrestleknownothing @cowcards)
  18. Plot twist: Ben stays at AWA and Max coaches at Wisconsin
  19. His name was mentioned during NCAAs at one of the ESPN broadcasts, someone said he's still training at Michigan/CK. He's qualified for trials but idk if anyone has said which weight he plans to go at
  20. "Season's over! We just won the championship! Time to hit the buffe--bible study!!"
  21. Interestingly, David Taylor missed out on a World team because J'Den Cox was barely able to stand and DT hesitated to attack. Said in hindsight that he should've kept wrestling.
  22. Caliendo seems fine at 165 and could be a bigger threat at the weight next year with some work in the offseason. I like Siebrecht at 157 and think it makes for a stronger lineup.
