Not a bad mistake or even a "mistake" really, but one situation reminded me of just how narrow the margins for error are. In the final sequence of their 125 quarter, Cardinale tried to ride out Ramos for the win instead of giving up the escape and head to OT. He had a seatbelt and Ramos had a whizzer, and Cardinale tried to jump over Ramos's hips. Ramos's hips were too high, and Cardinale fell off. It was a crazy scramble, so I doubt it was a conscious decision. I don't even know if he could have released the seatbelt.

I didn't mean to suggest that at all. Something about not having a reliable leg attack or a regular stand up. It's like he looked at Adam Satiev highlights from the Kenny Monday match and said "That's all I need." And then asked his buddy GFeller how to get out on bottom. G said, "Have I got a move for you!" The only time he seems to have listneed to his coach was when he needed a top strategy. Perry was on the case: "Just throw double boots, look at ref in disgust, wait for a stalling call, and then get pissed when they call a stalemate. PERFECT!"

McGee gets my vote. Just trading counters with RBY was amazing. Ran out gas a out 1 go too soon. Then he RBYed Fix for 3rd.

I think what happened to Lee, Gable, and almost to Smith shows exactly how difficult it is to get to four. It means your miracle scrambles have to outnumber your head scratching mistakes over and over again... 5×5×5×5 times. Plus, your moments of thumos have to outnumber your moments of indecision 5×5×5×5 times. Your moments of rub some dirt on it have to outnumber your career-ending injuries 5×5×5×5 times, etc.

Except everyone Yianni beat would have been a champ had he not been there.

They look like they recruit based on paper credentials alone. Like they saw Witcraft placed at IronMan were like, "he's good," but never actually looked at how he was winning those matches. Dude didn't have a reliable leg attack then and doesn't have one now. Same thing with Chandler Rogers: his primary scoring technique was an assassin? Same thing with Mastro: he was freakishly tall at 106-120 and used a bundle to horse guys around. That was his offense. Just seems like superficial scouting.

Did Penn State recruit Ferrari? I just get the feeling that guys like Ferrari would find themselves unwelcome at Penn State.

Haines survived an adrenaline dump that would have crippled the most grizzled competitors. Whatever Cael and co do to keep their guys relaxed is the thing that separates Penn St from everybody else. Haines will win.

Btw I know this regret from experience.* I was in the corner for a state quarter-final, and my guy executed a series of idiotic mistakes that lost him a 7 point lead, the match by pin, and team points that would have likely got us a team trophy. In disgust, I threw my glasses into the wall and had to walk around blind the rest of the tournament. My AD never let me live it down. *Except it wasn't all over tv, twitter, and instagram.

I laugh, but I feel for the dude. His life is wrestling, but he's missing the yellow ones. He's a 26~ year old mat rat who's gonna be hustling clinic, asst coach, and RTC money for the foreseeabke future.
