Sort of feel this way...not sure this is a solution that addresses a specific problem. Closes thing I saw is it is in response to crime increase in ATL...but then the person who came up with it didn't mention that rather spoke about how this was for a specific clientele - executives, celebrities, and such that would need armed protection, but those folks probably would have that anyway. And the person went on to say it would also be available for people, parents and kids who are looking for piece of mind.
Sounds like there is a stringent recruitment process for the drivers and the job is marketed to ex police, military, bodyguards, etc...more importantly those trained with weapons and are licensed in specific states they would work in. I can't believe there is an insurance company who would license this, but then again, I know there is.
Just sort of weird I guess...but like you said, it seems like a solution looking for a problem.
