  1. My HS team...and this is I think 4 years ahead of me, but we won State. We had 3 D1 Linemen(Wisconsin, Cincy and Indiana). We had 4 OL who weighted over 300. We went(LT to RT) 340/300/310/245/300. When I played, I was listed as a 6'2 220 RB/LB when I was not 6'1 and am only now 220 when I shouldn't be over 200. So..ya know, I assume they inflated those guys weights just as they did mine, but I'm going off the program and either way, they were big dudes. A couple guys went two ways, but we played a 3-3-5 or a 30 stack. DE Scholarship to Wisconsin 295 and it was legit. Other DE 300(our RT, biggest freak athlete I've ever seen, ran a ~4.7 40, benched 400 in HS, could do the splits...could not add 2+2...I played with his brother and he was bigger, a National Judo Champ and yet somehow made his brother look like a Rhodes Scholar). ANYWAY, our NT was our 135 pounder. He got tech falled in the Sec finals by a Freshmen. Went to state as a Sr, 0-2 Barbecue, but he was just so tough, quick and a MASSIVE 135 pounder who likely would not have been USADA approved and he may have had a screw loose. Like...the screw that holds the whole foundation in place... So not a great Wrestler, but one helluva NT on a good team.
  2. Yes...a very small...but loud group of us is HELL BENT on solving problems that...do not exist. We also apparently give out every possible award designated for a women to someone who was born a man. https://www.rappler.com/entertainment/movies/kaladkaren-wins-best-supporting-actress-first-summer-mmff/#:~:text=MANILA%2C Philippines – Kaladkaren made history, the festival's inaugural summer edition. YAH FEMINISM!!! Trust me, most liberals don't know, agree...nor care about these things, or think they're silly. How does a non-binary samurai kill people? They slash them! I tell people on social media about some of this shit and...they do not believe me...which makes sense as I barely do myself. "87% of people are trans, they just don't know it." Quote from an actual verified account on Twitter. "The Government should require licenses in order to be a journalist...if you get something wrong, they should be able to revoke it." That came from a "verified account of a white conservative, so...ya know, there's plenty of stoopid to go around. I find overwhelming majority of people are like MSpart or MPhillips. They may lean one way or the other, but you can generally have a reasonable conversation with them....but the crazies...they're getting crazier and they're getting more attention.
  3. I know Tony Azarian was an All American NT at Whitewater while Wrestling 158...IIRC. He was not a big guy. They went on a run where they were in the D3 National Championship game for ~9 years in a row, won a whole lot. Their coach left and is now the coach at Kansas. His record at one point was something like 110-4. They were dominant. And Azarian is still the leading tackler in school history I believe. That was D3...maybe NAIA. I think they started out as NAIA and then became D3. https://uwwsports.com/honors/athletics-hall-of-fame/tony-azarian/130
  4. It's getting a lot better. It's not like the 70s. The amount of shit they've done to protect players is...well, it'd be impressive if it wasn't done at the point of a MULTI-BILLION dollar lawsuit. And then they just had star players get hurt. Helmets are MUST safer(and getting even safer). They have those bubble helmets they wore in training camp that even further reduce the impact to the head. They're developing helmets with those inside that are supposed to be even better yet. Crack back blocks or blind side. We used to celebrate the shit out of that...you'd take a kick one way, reverse field, catch a guy not looking and just light-him-up...and the coaches and everyone would go nuts. That was less than 20 years ago. Not you get sent home from practice. In fact, they keep trying to kickoffs as much as possible(and now punts) by moving the ball out to the 25 as that's the play where the most injuries occur. The defenseless receiver, etc...etc.. People say it's making the sport soft, but I don't want to keep reading stories about Mike Webster in his truck, confused, finding relief only through huffing paint or watching guys play until their 40 and then take their own life(Junior Seau among many). But, they can only make it but so safe(see Tua) and while you can certainly walk around with bad knees or hips or whatever from Wrestling, the head injuries are insignificant in comparison...but so is the money. If Keuter has success early on at Iowa playing FB, good chance he tries to make a go of it in the NFL. Hopefully they'll have new helmets by then. Hopke seems to be determined to Wrestle though.
  5. In the finals? I just saw that Zaleski was a runner up for the Olympic team(it actually said alternate, but as we don't have alternates...). But that must have been '80? Lee Kemp...he should have had a Gold Medal in '80. I think he's maybe the guy that lost the most when we boycotted those games.
  6. I mean, Eierman, Kemerer, Marinelli, they were being held together by duct tape by the end of the year. I don't really remember any of those other guys from PSU using a metric ton of tape and large braces to keep 3 joins together just to get through a match. RBY tweaked an ankle. I don't know what the next 3 did, but they won. That probably helps. Kerkvliet...I just thought he was bored of Wrestling. Maybe Iowa's new facility will have some of those cryo-tanks like PSU has(I don't know that PSU has them, it just feels true). It's also possible PSU just prays for health harder. Who's to say?
  7. Dude...I am not that difficult(despite all evidence to the contrary)...I will call you want you want to be called. If Latino people ask me to call them LatinX, I'll do so. I WON'T do it because Art Majors of America united and decided that's what it'll be.
  8. Sure...but if you're getting your ass kicked every year because the other schools are out recruiting you, or taking your most talented Wrestlers...especially a school like Minnesota that had been a top ~5 program for so long, then your contract may not be tied to NIL...but your job may be.
  9. Hell yeah! The great equalizer. Scouting, player development...and the best manager in baseball!
  10. That's how small market teams have to operate. There's some measure of revenue sharing, but it's a joke. The Dodgers make 300M a year on their TV deal, the...Brewer make 30. The Yankees make more than that. The As spent 90M a couple years ago because they were good. Last year, they traded their two best players and they had no reason to spend...because they couldn't spend their way to being competitive. They just make a few hundred million less in revenue than the top market teams. They are excessively cheap, but being as the As still play in a stadium that gets flooded with raw sewage. In any event, the point was they at least try. There's no way to make things truly...even. There's always going to be teams or programs with just huge built in advantages.
  11. And...we're saying this is a BAD thing?
  12. I've been to hundreds of tournaments, probably 75 out of state. The people are almost always great. If you know your way around, I'm sure Tulsa is lovely. The Wrestling...always great. For me it was just about getting there and where to stay once I did. That's what made it too difficult for me to make it.
  13. Probably close to a 3rd Gold if Schulz doesn't beat Jim Zalesky out at 74KG. I think Goldman was also a runner up at the trials in '88...and won a Jr World Title. Not really relevant, but 5 Wrestlers who were Olympic caliber Wrestlers on one team, that's pretty wild.
  14. The New York Mets will spend 500 MILLION more than the Oakland Athletics this upcoming season, just on players salaries...but your point stands. They at least try in the NFL(thanks to Wellington Mara who probably cost his family tens of billions of dollars) and the NBA makes a ton of money in revenue sharing as well(as long as nobody says Taiwan... But yes, at least the professional leagues make an attempt. But they at least are all under one unified group of owners. The NCAA didn't want any players compensated and they have no saying over that. The transfer portal was hurting athletes and that was just a good idea, but you combine the two and it's kinda chaos. I think this is going to all going to kinda settle down a bit though. I wasn't begging for it, but I wasn't necessarily opposed. I did see how if you were a Football player for example...and you went to play for Lincoln Riley because of the way he develops QBs, then he bails to USC and you're a Heisman quality QB who's almost certainly going to be the #1 pick in the 2024 draft, you should be able to leave without penalty.
  15. And the rest is some variation of Anderson/Andersen, or Jacobson/Jakobson vet du ikke!
  16. With respect, us white liberals will be the ones who determine what is racially offensive. I THOUGHT we'd already established this when we decided "LatinX" was a thing?
  17. You can be cognizant of what you're saying and what some may find offensive...without being ridiculous. A literal lashing never cross my mind there. I also tend of think of RBY as being Latino, but...it really just sounded like a way of saying "ass-whooping."
  18. He knows what he did...
  19. Other than Cornell or over these Covid years, very rarely that I recall. It generally seemed to be highly touted recruits who didn't have success, took time off and came back. Can't think of a NC who did it, but...how often has a guy had an extra year to make that decision?
  20. Ok, so that fits with what I've heard. I just saw that he was a 220 and...figured he'd rather grow into HWT, but I know he's close with Hopke, so really feels like UM is the leader and PSU is 2nd. Though he's saying the right things about UW as a Wisconsin prep athlete. Just be surprising to see UM lose their connection to Pinnacle to UW. And what a fix Hopke would be to that "hole" Minnesota has!
  21. I'd juuuust about rule Wisconsin out based on this. It's flimsy, but Fickel...the FB coach(and arguably the best HWT in Ohio HS History) has told other recruits they can Wrestle, namely Dillan Johnson, the #1 ranked HWT(at least according to one ranking, I thought Mullens was the consensus #1). I guess Bono would probably prefer he just Wrestle, but I would think he'd be open to letting a talent like Hopke do both. You don't draw a line in the sand if you're Wisconsin Wrestling, you do whatever you can. Hopke's the type of kid who could come in, RS in Football, come into the Wresting season and probably AA as a Freshmen, or RS and contend for a NC as a Soph as he fills out. And at HWT, it's not like weight is an issue. As for who he has in the room, losing Trevor Branvold was a HUGE blow for the Badgers. I don't recall if he left when Davis did, but it doesn't matter. He was an outstanding coach and he'd be a great workout partner. The one thing that made me think Minnesota may be less likely was Gavin Nelson committing to UM, but I've been told -from a family friend of Hopke who's been told from Nelson he's planning on going 197...so take that for what very little it's worth. Not sure there's any team has a HWT in place that would make them NOT go after Hopke. I guess tOSU, OSU and Iowa would be the closest, but Keuter is a more highly regarded FB player and I suspect he'll focus on being an OLBer. And that's not through a friend of a friend of a cousin who's friend works at his favorite coffee place! ----I don't want to see this, I want to see someone contend with PSU, but with Kyle Snyder and even guys like Taylor, Varner...among others. I'd include Kerkvliet, but he seemed to have zero interest in Wrestling last year(just imagine if he had a motor like Cassioppi). Wisconsin and Minnesota both have had success with HWTs(one a TINNY bit more than the other, but UW has had a few AAs in recent history with Medberry a finalist, Hilger, Massey). But it's hard to argue against Penn State for really any Wrestler if you're looking at the best possible training partners and international success...
  22. Again...he's talked about how he loves performing in front of large groups. Also, people are quick to forget how dominant Wrestlers were and they tend to just count their titles. If he's back and he has a year, why not?
  23. I think he can(not that he will necessarily). And I think Chittum would potentially go 149.
  24. No question. Not sure the ref realized what happened though. It happened quick.
  25. Eh, fair enough. I'm just saying they weren't all 1 point matches and I think there's a little revisionist history after just kinda getting by for his 4th vs Van Ness and Murin. He wasn't Spencer Lee, but...I mean, two guys beat the man. I don't know what Dake's look like, but I suspect his was someone similar.
