Wisconsin... It's the same room it has been for 50 years probably, but it's got great natural light. It was absolutely unbearably hot in the summer. I remember a heat wave with temps up to ~100, black mats, the sun beating in. Room was ~120 or so. I went from ~165 to about ~141 and...as I'm saying that, I'm realizing how PERFECT that would have been for John Smith!

David Taylor to Coach Oklahoma State???
scourge165 replied to PortaJohn's topic in College Wrestling
I assume you're kidding... This seems antithetical to everything I've ever heard or known about Cael Sanderson. His whole career is about a competitive nature and a desire to win and be great. I don't think he's got a picture of Gable hanging up and saying, "just need to do one more than him." Cael leaves right now and he's the most success Wrestlers in College Wrestling History and I think the most highly regarded coach...and it's probably not close. I'd be disappointed if I learned he was counting NCs trying to pass Gable. -
David Taylor to Coach Oklahoma State???
scourge165 replied to PortaJohn's topic in College Wrestling
Maybe, but if you want to actually try to unseat PSU, going after Taylor is the obvious move. I wonder if there's been ANY talk about Cael stepping down. Just ANY at all or if he's even thinking about a timeline or if he wants to just dominate for another 15 years. DT would be an obvious coach in waiting...but Cael is also still young. -
The insight and wisdom of Pyles on display…
scourge165 replied to The_KC_Godfather's topic in College Wrestling
I'm pretty sure he simply said that they should make the weight 58 kg or 59 kg, not just eliminate a weight class(a pretty valid argument IMO). And the guys who are cutting to 57 are...usually malnourished. Vito should be a guy who's competing for an Olympic Title and he doesn't have a weight class. He's going to have to go up(I believe). -
I did miss where you said Ryder, but sure, Facundo is a great example as a guy who's...almost viewed as a failure or a "bust" as PSU...because he wasn't an AA as a Freshmen at one of the most loaded weights I've ever seen. And I'm not talking about anyone here specifically, but there's generally this kinda 'eh, Facundo, he's replaceable.' That is how much immediate greatness has become expected out of PSU's top recruits(particularly in the middle-upper weights). I'm certainly not dying on the Hill that Josh Barr is going to become the next Nolf, Zain, Nickal(certainly not Ruth)...maybe I shouldn't have said 3,1,1,1 as my point was...he's really good! That's it.

LOL...no, I can't really see that. He seems so disinterested in Wrestling as it is(while easily winning a NC)... It's just hard to picture him up there with the fake shit talking and some catch phrase. It's easier to see him going into the UFC and just wrecking dudes.

Ok...so this started about investing over a 35-year period, not investing in time for College. Long term investing and you asked "where can you get a 5% return." You didn't say where can you get a 5% return in a limited period of time with zero risk. That's a VERY different discussion. And again, there really is absolutely no such thing as zero risk. As I said, every fiat currency in history has fallen. So you're risking everything on your faith in the dollar, in banks. Not zero risk. I'd say if you're going to continue to have faith in the dollar, the US Economy, the Treasury...AND YOU'RE LOOKING LONG TERM, then history has proven 5% returns over a 35 year period would be historically BAD. You're looking at a ~10% return over a 35 year period. So that 500K will turn into ~14M using historical averages. So 5% and 3M in 35 years...that'd mean you were HYPER conservative in investing. Anecdotally, you'll find people who far-far exceeded these numbers and you'll find people who had really poor luck. Investing in a College fund where you have a set time and then getting hit with the '08 financial meltdown, that's horrible. I'm sorry that happened. But that is not what the original set of circumstances were.

Yes, Sinlclair is really good...as is Lockett. I'm just saying I think Barr is really good. I also think he'll continue to improve given the other athletes he has to work with every day. There's also just the Penn State progression built in. He was there with Welsch in the past...I don't see why he wouldn't continue to develop and be on that same level. I think @Le dukeis probably right. His biggest threat is likely losing a spot to a guy like Ryder or...one of the other dozen kids they have coming in.
-
LOL...yeah, he'll have a lot to say about that! Sinclair is more of a '74 at the College level IMO, or he's got to add some good weight, but...he's a monster. And yes, I know what he wrestled this past year, but I thought he was basically a skipped meal away from being at 184 without making any effort to cut. I also wasn't literally picking Barr to go 3,1,1,1...just saying he's on the same level as the PSU guys who've done so. At least in my opinion...he's up there with Nolf, Nickal, Wright, guys like that who've been there under Cael. He's really good if what I was trying to say.
-
This is a wise, wise man!
-
Barr looks like a kid who's I really think could follow the PSU progression. A 3rd as a Freshmen then 1, 1, 1. Watching him Wrestle Welsch, they were so close, he was just outmanned physically, but he was in on more shots, just got bullied(that's...not a knock on Welsch, I love how he Wrestles, it's a compliment if anything). I'd assume Barr has spent plenty of time growing into '84.

It's really cute when someone takes the entire premise and then COMPLETELY changes it because they're so ridiculously wrong rather than just admit it, they have to double down. NOTHING is "risk free," dude. I don't know why you're not making that you're standard. Unless you live exclusively off your gold that you barter with people, I'll assume you use a bank, you use money, a fiat currency. When you get paid, it's by check that gets deposited directly into your bank account. None of those are risk-free. Every fiat historically has failed. NOBODY said risk-free. But find me a 35-year period where you're not getting at LEAST 5% returns on average WITH the risks? 150 years of the market- over 9.24%-slowest period of growth. 100 years-10.6 and that includes the GREAT DEPRESSION Last 10 about 13 Last 5 about 15 You want something risk free in live, you're probably not gonna find it.
-
I don't think anyone said "risk-free." The stock market is a risk, but...you just invest over time you'll do just fine.
-
What do you think the market has been averaging? Close your eyes, pick a Vanguard ETF and you'll get 5% on average per year...and that's low. Should be getting closer to 10%. Nasdaq was up 43% last year, stocks in total up over 24%. It's pretty simple, but invest in AI. The Chips(NVDA), the people who make them(TSM)...and that 500K(that was just speculated) should be 3M in 6-7 years!

Do any Penn State wrestlers beat Kyle Dake?
scourge165 replied to AgaveMaria's topic in International Wrestling
I don't think he did anything dirty. He's just got a...different style. I'd imagine he's frustrating to Wrestle against for people at his level. He doesn't move as smoothly as others do. He and Hamiti kinda have that same motion that's a little... awkward. I don't think he's trying to be dirty or get in anyone's head or any of that. Maybe I'm wrong, but it just feels like you can tell the difference between the contrived "tough guy," shit vs the just relentless, non-stop motor. I'd say he's more in that later group like a Lincoln Mcllravy. If you're getting poked in the eyes and getting clubbed, it's probably a bit more difficult to tell in the moment however. -

Ok, so this is Jimmy's new burner? Obviously some obnoxious PSU fan all bitter about JB... -
197: Ferrari vs Starocci - Battle of the Italian Stallions
scourge165 replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
Oh...yeah, I saw this one. This was the first semester of last year talking about adding Ferrari(or anyone, but obviously it was about Ferrari). I don't think this is really saying much. Ferrari has since been working out and lifting in the Iowa room...I'd say that is a more telling sign. Plus it feels like Angelo is a package deal(does anyone care about the other idiot?) At the very least, they have to be humoring AJ and the Ferrari's. -

I'm impressed with Angelo and...obviously AJ has won an NC, so...they're impressive Wrestlers(don't know much about Anthony). -

I don't know what interview you're talking about(just didn't hear it), but I'd imagine if AJ can put together of months of not screwing up, he's gonna go with the National Champ. Guys say things, but when it comes down to it, I think Iowa is all in...but again, don't know what he said. -

That's pretty unlikely IMO. Ferrari is slow and methodical and...Starroci is going to add some weight obviously. I think a bigger threat to Starroci would be a Trumble or someone who is just so much longer and bigger. Ferrari is bigger obviously, but I think the length would be a bigger issue. More likely he goes '84 though I would guess. -
Yeah...that's fair and makes sense. A 5X National Champ? He'll be a...9X National Champ all told? I mean, unless things go REALLY poorly.
-
I really don't think so. The guy sent me a REALLY angry DM on a different thread where I just commented about him acting like a clown at the Southern Scuffle... But I also don't know for sure.
-
He brags about it and he's hyper-defensive of the Ferrari's, but no, I can't state for a fact that they're related.
