  1. It seems really weird to plea this down and not get probation out of it. Maybe they're using probation and then deferred judgement interchangeably(though, it'd be 12 months in that case).
  2. ...do you mean when Iowa was in the midst of winning 9 TITLES IN A ROW and 20 out of 26 years? I don't believe you're making the point you think you are here!
  3. Yes. He signed RBY, got him some big NIL deals, he's repping Bo Nickal and a couple other PSU Wrestlers.
  4. No, that makes perfect sense. The girls had better GPAs and the Boys scored better on the testing... AP classes are still split pretty close to 50/50 between male and female. Though that differs from subject, so...it'd defend on the subjects your teaching.
  5. And THAT'S what really matters! In fairness, I doubt they had any clue he'd loss his chance to compete or that he'd be trading no NCAAs instead of 2 more NCAAs.
  6. Yeah, they're implementing that because boys do better on tests and it was discriminatory vs girls...apparently...somehow. And yet there are a lot more girls/women getting admitted into the ivies(before they changed their rules). I needed my test scores to help me get into school. They helped me better than a very mediocre GPA.
  7. Nobody said they were a threat to Penn State...that was literally the point I was making. ISU DOES however have the #2 recruiting class that mostly redshirted this past year and several Wrestlers who should contribute. Terukina is back off RS Redding was Rd of 12 Swiderski was the #2 recruit in the Country Johnson at '49 was one of the better Freshmen in the Country '57-Kraisser was Rd of 16 last year '65-Carr '74-97 Gaiten, Rojas and Bastida They have one potential hole in the lineup and a LOT of young recruits and Wrestlers with high upsides...but AGAIN, the point was that Penn State doesn't have a rival and they NEED someone to step up and become one for the good of the sport. That's why I mentioned Alabama and then used Clemson, Georgia and Florida State as examples. I think Iowa State is a team that has some young talent, and a guy like Bastida, another year into Folkstyle, he's as good as anyone on his feet, if he can get out, he could be in the finals. Johnson has massive upside. I don't know man, it wasn't that deep. I like Iowa State and what they're building and again, nobody is a threat to Penn State right now. That was...again, the main point.
  8. Right, but thee Ohio State University is in Ohio....or so I'm told! It also happens to be where Taylor is from and is probably #2 in College Wrestling talent...which is why I picked it(again, a job that is not open and doesn't appear to be opening up anytime soon). Penn, Ohio, Cali, those would be my 3 states...but Penn and Ohio are different as they're so much more baked into the culture whereas Cali is just a number games. But, talent is coming from all over. Tenn, Kentucky...that's why a figure like David Taylor would be so important.
  9. Yeah...I think he's at least as good at the same age as O'Toole was...which...I mean, we all know what O'Toole has done, how special he is. I don't want to say better as people think that's a slight against O'Toole, and I get that...and really I'm just trying to articulate what it looks like Hopke is.
  10. Ok...well, I just don't agree. 16 of Lee's 20 wins this year where TFs or Pins. He was the clear cut Hodge winner up until a historic, top 5 all time upset for Glory to win it(probably top 2-3). 165 was a loaded weight and you can list a bunch of guys at 149, the fact is, Kolodzik had beaten the best of that group numerous times. And if you think it's MORE likely that Glory wins 125 going INTO this years NCAA as it was that Kolodzik going into 2020 or 2021...well...I see it VERY differently.
  11. I don't know him or the family but for a few very brief interactions, but I have spoke to a close friend of the family with whom he works out with pretty regularly. I guess they're expecting him to be 6'4, maybe 6'5. The Dad is a big guy. I think he's about 6'2 right now. He also looks like he's long arms as well. I think he'll end up looking like a taller, longer Mason Parris, but I've got no clue. He just seems like a kid who's having fun, loves the sport and is an absolute hammer.
  12. He's teased it for so long...might as well. Give yourself some regular competition, win another Title... Greg Kerkvliet just decided an Olympic RS was probably the best for him next year! Maybe Nevills sticks around for one more year? I'm not sure if he actually transferred yet or not. Something has to go right for UM here. Brayton Lee goes from #1 to injured and then hurt again this year, Nagao puts his name in the portal because someone put the idea in the air.
  13. Right...and was just a few pounds over 220. 225 I think. I don't think he's lost...ANY match since 2018 or 2019. I'd pay to watch him and Keuter wrestle. They're both just such natural athletes.
  14. Spencer Lee was -3000 to win the NCAA title this year. Those are cartoonish odds. People did NOT think it was 50/50 Glory would win it. In fact, it was barely 50/50 Glory vs Ramos. People talked about MAYBE if someone was going to beat Lee, particularly given what happened when he wrestled Ramos, MAYBE Glory after all day Saturday to get hydrated, MAYBE he might could possibly beat Lee late if EVERYTHING went right. Just like people talked about how Gomez could maybe beat Yianni again. It was never 50/50. And yes, I understand Kolodzik didn't wrestle a full season. I'd said he got his OLY RS pulled late in the season. That was the whole point. He got screwed by the decision to not wrestle the 2020 NC and then give the extra year NOT to the Sr's who Wrestled, but to the incoming Freshmen. Also, Kolodzik beat Lugo twice, O'Connor and Mauller(twice at the NCAAs) all in 2019 not 3 years before...the same year he lost a close match in the Semis. But I was never worried about how they seeded the tournament. That was your rationale for why Kolodzik was a bigger longshot. Because he had a lower seed than Glory. It's like saying Jon Trenge had better odds to win it despite being in a weight with Cael Sanderson than a #6 seed who was undefeated in the prior year vs all those seeded above him simply based on seeds. Glory and Monday were both MASSIVE longshots to win it. Kolodzik had as good of a shot as anyone in his weight class...
  15. I'd assume if they had a betting line, Kolodzik would have had better odds to win a wide open weight class in 2021(or even moreso then 2020 tourney) than Glory who had Spencer Lee or Monday who had to get past both Carr and O'Toole in order to win a title. Kolodzik was a 3X AA who'd taken a 3rd, who lost to Ashnault in the Semi's 2-0 and there was no Yianni in that weight. Kinda baffling how he was the #6 seed in 2020 given he had multiple wins over the #1 seed(Lugo) the #2(O'Connor) and the #4 seed(Mauller) and he was undefeated, but...it's kinda moot at this point given...we didn't wrestled the tournament. The POINT was simply that Kolodzik had a chance to win it, he's experienced a great deal of success. It was more in response to the is this article written if not for Ramos.'
  16. Hopke is one of the top 5 recruits I've seen in a VERY long time. When he fills out...which I suspect will be at ~6'4 ish 255, I could see him winning multiple titles. Every time I see him, he just looks better and makes it look easy.
  17. That was...troubling. I got into a whole thing on another thread about how the fear or losing can be as strong as the desire to win, but you have to be able to handle your losses with grace on the mat...like Spencer Lee did. That had to be very frustrating, but...it's a very bad look.
  18. Right, I'm saying Kolodzik's chances IF he'd wrestled in 2021 were probably higher than Glory or Monday heading into this past years tournament. So of the three, he probably would have had the best odds to win a title before the respective tournaments. Not that important, just pointing out they did have a guy who could very well have won a title a couple years ago, but was caught in that baffling decision by the NCAA to give some athletes 5 National Championships and others just 3.
  19. That's the match I was looking forward to. I thought Glory had a chance to beat Lee IF he got to the finals. But hey, maybe the article gets written a few years ago if Matthew Kolodzik doesn't get his RS pulled late in '20 and then lose his chance to Wrestle at a NC. 2021 was when O'Connor and Sasso were in the finals. Odds of him winning that bracket are much higher than the odds of Glory or Monday winning '25 or '65 heading into this past tournament. Either way, it's a cool story and they did get a NC this year.
  20. Fair enough, but I don't know that it's the PSU fans who are necessarily expressing their confidence or talking them up. I think it's just others who are in awe of what they're doing. I think it's bad for the sport...as I've said. It's not good for sports...generally speaking, when you know who's going to win each year, but it's hard to not marvel at the talent they've got coming into the sport and how good they could be. If they bring back everyone but Dean and RBY, but manage to get a healthy Howard, Nagao and maybe even Truax....shit, that team could challenge the '83/'97 Iowa teams.
  21. Well, in the context I said it, it the last 10-12 years aren't really important, I'm just looking ahead to next year and it seems like most other teams are graduating more Wrestlers and then said save for maybe Missouri and ISU. Both of whom bring back most of their teams and have Wrestlers coming in who can make a big impact(particularly is Messenbrink does end up at Missouri). It was more about the gap being even larger next year...as it stands now. And that was without the potential for Nagao transferring to PSU.
  22. Not a Penn State fan, but I did just find myself...for some reason, looking back at old team scores and comparing Gable to Cael and saw that Iowa won 9 of 10 weights at the B1Gs in 1983, had 9 AAs in the top 5(IIRC) and the one who didn't was a Freshmen who won his first two matches and then would win a Title in one of the greatest scrambles in NCAA History, Rico Chiparelli. I don't think Penn State is currently contending with Iowa or Cornell or anyone as much as they're trying to get better. They're just trying to put the best, most dominant team out there...and I'd assume the fans feel the same. Isn't that what you do in any sport? Why did everyone run and join Tampa Bay in 2020? Why did the Golden State Warriors sign Kevin Durant after they won 73 games in an 82 game season and had won a Championship with 4 HOFers already on the team. You don't think Gable and Iowa fans would have rooted for transfers like this when they were at their peak? I mean, I know they got a few of them. They were so much better at developing talent and so much better. Yet Gable was still grinding, using the advantages he had.
  23. The MMA promoter, yeah, he's a big PSU fan. I think that was a big part of RBY staying another year. Rudis, Nike, Cliff Keen, they're just trying to get the biggest names and I suspect they don't care where they're at. But Dave Martin has a rooting interest and he's helped him get other NIL deals. I may have been wrong in saying they have "as much as anyone," when it comes to NIL. But it seems like they're doing alright and a guy like Nagao who has a background in multiple disciplines...he'd be a guy Dave Martin may also be interested in. I'm sure he's looking to make money off this and he's not doing it JUST to see PSU win the National Title by 70 points rather than 50. And again, that was just one part of the equation. They have SOOO much going for them. If you want to be a legend, you can certainly do that at other schools...but right now, PSU would seem to be the obvious choice.
  24. Sure...just seemed like it was out of frustration. Sounds like he's a good kid and they're good people, but I hope that ends up being an outlier. I'm sure it will.
  25. Ok...on occasion I choose to view a post from a user on ignore. It seldom makes sense.
