Program culture issues at NLWC/PSU? Thomas Gilman
scourge165 replied to Caveira's topic in College Wrestling
...wait, how did we get to early 1980s SMU Football? And no, I don't know what Craig James did... unless you're talking about taking money. Though, that'd be odd given it's legal now and SMU handed out pennies relative to what athletes now make. I don't know if this post is Satire or not. -
Penn State 2025-2026 lineup (updated)

...and you agreed before changing your mind. THAT is the end of the story. -
No kidding. I jumped in at the end and now I'm working my way back and...it's hilarious. I'm pretty sure it's unintentionally hilarious, but I don't know what's going on.
-
Was this somehow an offensive take? That the Wrestling community tends to be more conservative? LOL..."are you prepared to name a sport..." like asking if I'm ready to go sacrifice myself! I mean, I really wasn't, but... sure, Basketball. The NBA and the WNBA. You think they're right leaning or left leaning?

Go away? You suddenly become a teenage girl? It's a forum...you don't like it, don't read it. You see what JimmySpeaks said today? Me neither. I have him on ignore. If you're that in your feelings, by all means, use that feature! And you didn't take the out? LOL...read the thread dude. You made a stupid bet, I made my terms clear and then I gave you the out and you definitely took it. Which is fine. I think you were drinking when this started... -

I mean, to be fair, I'm open to someone who is more educated. I also took him saying that it was a "myth," to mean that those strains weren't actually designed for that. Perhaps I'm wrong. Maybe it's just one type gets you up and going more than the other. I don't know, my experience is pretty limited because it's never worked, but from the way people talk about how the stuff they use works for them, I'd be more than willing to try it again. I've even had Doctors recommend it...or if not recommend it, ask me if I've tried. -

Ok...it'd be GREAT if I could find something that helped with inflammation and does what seemingly EVERYONE else says weed does for them...but I'm skeptical...but I'll try it. So...would most weed places have CBG? I'm ENTIRELY ignorant about this stuff. Also, when you say it's a myth(the Indica/Sativa)... do you mean some people find it calming or relaxing, but that's not what it's for whereas this stuff is specifically designed for relaxation and pain? Message me because...I'm fully willing to take this and I've even had Doctors tell me if I'm not going to take something for pain, I should try it and I've never found anything that's worked. -

Yeah...not my experience. EVERYONE else can do what they want to do...I'm not judging. I'm saying... I can't handle any of them. The last time it was some... Indica...whatever. Couldn't sleep and I was paranoid. It just doesn't work for me. That's it. -

LOL...go back and read the thread dude! I didn't change my position. You did! I didn't complain about anything. I literally said I thought Ono could win without going down. You think he'll be able to get out of the bottom from anyone because... as you said, he's more physically mature and he has experience. You're the one who realized what a bad bet this was for you...and I gave you an out. Take it without being a dick. -
I think that's the point.
-
Oh...really? You think Okie State is going to say no to Snyder and a guy who Taylor likely has a relationship with over that? I also don't think it's "condoning" prostitution. I would think they'd want him there for...anyone. Any '97 they have or just because he's a great Wrestler.
-
Through Christ, all things are possible. We're all sinners and we all stray from the path and it's at our lowest moments, it's those closest to us are there to help pull us up from rock bottom. And then...some interview where she's part of it. That's my guess.
-
It'd be stupid not to. Taylor's not tiptoeing around the PSU thing and if Snyder wants to leave, what type of moron wouldn't want to bring him in? I'm not convinced he's the 2026 representative with Brooks. I think Brooks struggles to go the full 97KG vs Taz andSad with his built, but vs Snyder...who isn't exactly lankly, he should do just fine.

Is Weed still on the banned substance list? I thought it was taken off(edit-I just realized, I don't think I thought it'd been taking off...I still remember Richardson getting a short suspension, I guess I just kinda assumed it had until I thought about her). I couldn't care less if a guy gets popped for Weed. I don' think there's much embarrassment associated with that. There are too many elite athletes who partake for pain management...and I'd smoke daily if it didn't have me in the corner of my own house all paranoid and weird. Oh, and I've NEVER met a pot smoker who didn't say, "oh no, this doesn't make you paranoid, it's a nice mellow buzz and great for your joints." And...I've always found it to be nonsense...maybe my joins feel better, IDK...I'm too damn paranoid. But that goes back about a decade since I've last been fooled by that little...persuasion tactic. -
Ok... well, I don't agree with either. With your take or Penn States. But you have to account for why they chose to not participate 10 years ago as well. If it's about bad feelings about David Taylor taking over at Okie St...and I don't know who you're referring to other than maybe Starocci running his mouth(which is hardly new or...indicative of anything) or Nickal maybe. They're the only two guys I could imagine complaining. I'd also disagree about PSU protecting seeds or that Wrestling in November has nothing to do with Wrestling in March. I know coaches who have their schedule's and workouts planned week by week throughout the year. What I COULD see and what I think PSU...maybe as much as anyone(but Iowa and...well, most programs have done this) is that PSU in particular wants to minimize their competition, their events through the B1G duel season and they use the first half of the year to just figure out their lineup. But more than anything...they don't seem to care about National Duels anymore now than they did 10 years ago when they were the best team and also...not participating. You think it's a "cult mentality" that people project onto Penn State, but I think you are kinda projecting this onto Penn State. I think Cael just doesn't think it's worth it for the reasons he's given and that's it. He doen't feel like he has to answer to anyone becaue...well, he really doesn't. He doesn't need to justify his coaching philosophy because it's self explanatory. So...again, we BOTH believe they should be there, you're just reading much more into why they're not than I am. What's your thinking about why Cael declined to go the first opportunity he got at Penn State? I would like to hear him explain when he thinks they should be and how they should be run...as he's articulated whyhe doesn't like them(though vaguely). I would imagine this would require the NCAA to recognize it as a team duel championship...perhaps after the NCAAs as many State do with duel championships. I'd really doubt it is more about his first prized recruit and the guy David Taylor called a mentor...spiting the event because his new program was putting it on. That just doesn't feel likely. Maybe we'll have to agree to disagree here...(though I'd be interested in who has taken shots at David Taylor...I don't really stay up to date on the social media snipping).

Penn State 2025-2026 lineup (updated)
scourge165 replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
To the first bolded part, that's not been my argument. I've NEVER said I thought he'd lose. I responded to a post as to who could stop them from winning NINE National Championships...a ridiculous number. Not that I didn't think he could or would win. To your new proposal, LOL...no! Because I said he has to take down! The point of contention was you arguing the only reason guys get ridden is a physical maturity issue. Mine is that it's... just so much more than that. A physical maturity issue, a lot of feel. You think he's going to be hitting a standing gramby and kicking out vs a tough rider? Maybe you do, I don't. If he goes the year and doesn't take down or takes down in the Black Knight Invitational...sure, he could get out. But if he wrestles it like Bastida(for example) did and he's losing 1-0 matches because he doesn't take down or more likely, winning 9-3 matches because he's giving up 3 TDs and then 3 escapes...it wouldn't really apply to the entire disagreement...right? That's why nhs was saying I should be giving you odds. So if I don't think he'll go down...and I think he might be the best Wrestler in the World...why would I want to bet on RT under THOSE circumstances? Edit-And in fact...I already addressed both of these; And...when you asked if I wanted to bet; And my response; There was other stuff in there about...why kids get ridden and all that, but this is the most pertinent. -
I sincerely doubt that's the reason. He didn't want to participate the first time around...why would that change now that it's earlier in the season? Also, most coaches are happy for former Wrestlers getting good jobs. They take pride in that. Barring some agreement that Cael was going to step down...AND Cunningham...say Cunningham's kids were done with College and then said they'd turn it over to Taylor, I don't see any reason he'd have to be upset. I don't think it's as deep as people are making it... he just doesn't want to go to an event like that as it doesn't line up with his schedule and peaking in March...which I think it lame, but I don't have reason to think he's lying. He didn't like it...what, 15 years ago or whenever it was and he doesn't like it now. Still think they should go, not debating that. It...is silly to have it without them, but... whatever. The one thing, you said go and collect the 200K. I thought it was 1M to the winner. Is it 1M in the total purse?
-
Ya think it was your predictions I was taking issue with there bud? LOL...
-
So... to combat what you perceive to be PSU fans pre-emptive whining, you're pre-pre-emptively whining. And making the argument that Cael is actively trying to harm the sport...
-
Ok...so if Iowa wins it, it means nothing because he killed it...using your logic. Got it.
-
Yeah, no, you're right. College Wrestling is just overflowing with money! Why could they use a MILLION dollars!
-
LOL....what an asinine example of circular logic. Why aren't they participating in National Duels? Because he wants to actively hurt the sport. 'What do you base your logic on?' That he's not participating in the National Duels.' Oh, and you don't know if he did anything to help Stanford...I mean, nothing you RECALL, right? You've made a compelling argument
-
This is a stupid question and the onus isn't on me. You made the statement that he specifically ISN'T doing this BECAUSE it's "Good for the sport." So YOU are making the argument that he's actively acting against the sports best interest. That...is stupid in my opinion. You made the claim, not me. What does he do that's intentionally NOT for the "good of the sport?" I would say building PSU into a National Powerhouse, the NLWC constantly churning out wrestlers who represent the USA and win World/Olympic medals, that's good for the sport, but again, doesn't matter as you're the one making the argument.
-
You think Cael is adverse to doing things good for the sport? That THAT is in and of itself the reason? I just don't think it aligns with his larger plans on peaking in March, but...I also just think that's a weak reason. And he doesn't think it matters.

I can't imagine what the comments would be in 5 years if Aedon Sinclair went to Penn State. They'd also claim his skull grew and ignore that...it looks no different than it did when he was a kid.
