  1. Cornell has an annual Giving Day, in which team members call up previous and prospective donors and ask for donations. This year, I got Ethan Fernandez, but the Site Administrator for the Cornell wrestling forum got Greg For what it is worth.
  2. Well, he matriculated the year after Foca and Ramirez, and he took a "medical redshirt" which just means he wasn't enrolled (I guess), so it's possible he still has time. "Four in six" is the rule now, although that may have just been a COVID-year allowance. Clear as mud.
  3. Is there something other than graduating that prevents him from returning to Cornell next year?
  4. Greg D is out for the season. Ungar was supposed to be at the Cyclone Open after descending to 125, but I don't know if he didn't make the trip or didn't make the weight. Perhaps Coach Grey will give more info in his weekly email update in a day or two. The plan (until this weekend) was for Ungar to descend to and remain at 125 this year, and for Ferrera to stay at 133 for the remainder of the season. Did I mention that Ferrera was injured in his second match this weekend (after winning his first over Intermat #20 and ESPN expert Cory Land), and MFFd the following match? No idea what will occur going forward. The best laid plans of coaches and wrestlers gang aft agley...
  5. So, Cory Land doesn't understand how ESPN works wrt college wrestling and announcing. He probably thinks that ESPN rolls up a tractor trailer or two and sets up all the cameras, microphones, and has a dedicated announcing booth staffed with the best announcers.
  6. Maybe my new favorite wrestler. Go to 36:00 (match only lasts a couple of minutes).
  7. Says something about Shapiro that he majored him and pinned him in their two meetings (discounting the third in which Andonian injury defaulted).
  8. I see that Shapiro is now only credited with 6.56 bonus points, despite getting two TFs in his two recent matches. Go figure.
  9. Ben Darmstadt. 18 pins in his first full season at D1 (tied with Dake and behind only Gabe Dean in the Cornell record book). One of the few guys who would choose top and against whom others would choose neutral. Could get a pin from top, bottom, and neutral. Was like wrestling an octopus with legs and arms everywhere. "Famously" beat 4xAA and then-#2 Willie Miklus 9-0 with 6:11 riding time despite Miklus taking neutral to start the third. MAGA: "Make Assassin Great Again"
  10. Ah, so you watched the actual gymnastics meet stream, instead of the dedicated ESPN+ wrestling stream. It's not too late: https://www.espn.com/espnplus/player/_/id/e1c49b20-0e65-4301-80de-59cbec7af724
  11. Poorly televised? You must have watched something other than the ESPN+ stream I saw. Professional announcers, professional camera work, accurate scoring and clocks, only mispronounced "Foca". Got "Shapiro" correct. Only saw the gymnasts in the background on rare occasions (did see that coach in the red and white outfit a few times).
  12. FWIW, there was confusion as to how the Cornell vs. Mizzou match tonight was going to be streamed, as it is in conjunction with a Mizzou women's gymnastic event. It will be streamed on ESPN+ here: https://www.espn.com/espnplus/player/_/id/716a9c4f-261e-4bcc-9715-012aab884a02 Link appeared on ESPN+'s schedule moments ago.
  13. N=1: Shapiro got 7.5 bonus points last NCAA tournament, and WS is crediting him to score 7.5 points this year.
  14. Schools don't offer NIL money. More likely Stanford couldn't compete with UNC's ability to offer Koll NIL money.
  15. What are you suggesting? Old friends getting together? Cardenas committed to Cornell, then joined a bunch of other commits and followed Koll to Stanford.
  16. Cardenas wrestled at the Soldier Salute (listed as "Stanford"). The rest of the team is at Midlands.
  17. Might it have to do with the fact that Flo and track are neither hosting the brackets (something called Smoothcomp?) nor streaming (B1G+) this event?
  18. Trackwrestling has two-deep mat assignments for Midlands. Given that they are at the upper weights, it's likely they had three-deep when there were three matches scheduled on a given mat.
  19. Correa had uncommitted some time ago, IIRC, because of something Michigan did, not because of something Cornell did (unless you know otherwise). He was a free agent. Vega never decommitted from Cornell until he committed to OSU. Kinda like Correa broke up with his girlfriend, then met a new girlfriend, while Vega started going out with a new girlfriend before breaking up with his old girlfriend. What did I miss?
  20. Did I get this correct? Correa commits to Michigan. Michigan recruits over him. Correa decommits. Correa commits to Cornell months later. Where's the outrage?
  21. Depends on the school and when their first term ends. For example, Foca and Ramirez both wrestled last weekend after taking the first semester off, because finals ended before that dual. "Second semester" really means "after first semester ends."
  22. Saw that Anthony Knox (Beast of the East) and Alessio Perentin (Powerade) are both sporting Cornell headgear in tournaments. Great marketing. Any other schools doing this?
  23. Works fine for me using Chrome on my MacBook. Also works fine with Safari on same computer. Try this link: https://arena.flowrestling.org/event/9dcf51b0-5e07-4592-b2c5-b1b3be2d907b (note: There may have been an issue with the link from one of their articles, but the link from Arena seems to work fine)
  24. How many of those teams, other than Cornell, have zero wrestlers registered?
  25. See that elf in the middle with the green cap?
