Another bloodthirsty Dem Witch Hunt
GreatWhiteNorth replied to Plasmodium's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
Looking for crooked politicians is like trying to find a fast-food place. Not hard. Which is exactly why we should support the folks in DC that actually want to do something about it. I don't give a rat's ass about the party any of these crooks belong to. They shouldn't be hiding behind their party - and neither party should let them. -
The Russky and Chinois Navies are reportedly the gayest on the planet. Remember the French Foreign Legion? They are much like that, except not foreigners so much. Endless supply of Bud Lite on those ships. Nothing wrong with that. Can be had cheap if you don't mind a born-on date that is older than your socks.

Upon the Death of Folksyle
GreatWhiteNorth replied to ILLINIWrestlingBlog's topic in College Wrestling
What's that strange noise? Sounds like both the rumbling of a herd of giant buffalo and the whistling of a locomotive - at the same time, and in the air. Nukes. Damn nukes. Swiftly headed over the north pole and directly to Chicago. Hard to say where it came from. Maybe those moronic Russkis with their weird fixation with both war and their short, little, goofy leader - or the North Koreans with their own short, little, goofy leader who they secretly hate and morbidly dread will one day do them all in. In the windy city, it doesn't really matter much at this point. GIANT-FLASH/GIANT-BOOM/GIANT-RUMBLE... there goes the Illini. Gonna miss I-Mart, but that blog guy - meh, was never too sure about him. Oh, and wasn't cool for the maybe 3 million'ish other folks who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Ionel and WKN, those were the real losses here. From what I understand, they were about to post notes from their bourbon tasting. I'll never be able to read them. FIN -
Yep. Accepting defeat is hard for kids - feeling "cheated" can be a preferred alternative, especially when your parents are there to back you up on it. Let's be honest, we have a high-profile ex-president who has been in "cheated" mode for years now. It has become a much more accepted position lately. (And it's not limited to one party - plenty of liberals feel they have been cheated as well. This isn't political commentary.) Feels like "cancel culture" is being joined by "cheated culture"... Frankly, I could do without either. I prefer the "personal responsibility" route, but that's just me. All that aside, any wrestler who takes a cheap shot like that needs to feel some serious repercussions. No excuses. Swift kick in the rear is in order here.

I have no problem agreeing to disagree. Let's call it that and end it this conversation about Jordan. BUT, generally speaking, the notion that I have to tackle EVERY politician's mistakes if I am to mention ONE is idiotic. It's like saying I can't comment on how I think RBY stalls against Iowa without having to mention every wrestler on every other team who also stalls because otherwise it must be that I just hate RBY? Nah, that's just weak. Really weak. You seem reasonable in past conversations, and I have nothing against you - but your logic here is SERIOUSLY flawed. Best to you, Art - but I'm out.

In this case, you are wrong because I'm not in a political discussion about D vs R... at all. I wouldn't dream of excusing bad behavior because of a political party affiliation (something you should consider.) I'm a middle of the roader - I see all politicians as basically equally crooked until I'm proven otherwise. I'm calling out Jordan because he is actively involved in obstructing a criminal investigation for no reason other than his political ambitions as Trump's attack dog. A role that I believe should be beneath him. I trust the judicial system (at least well as any system of any country on the planet), and I think Trump will eventually get what he deserves. If that's nothing, or if it's something - either way is fine with me. I'd like to see the chips fall where they may without Jordan inserting himself into the situation - funded by my taxpayer money. We can both list many politicians who have engaged in sketchy behavior. Both D's and R's. But I'm not - I'm just pointing out the one politician in the current high-profile case. (If it makes you feel any better, I have posted recently about Ilhan Omar and my dislike for a number of things she's been doing - and not doing. And how we need to see her replaced ASAP. I don't think she belongs in Congress, we need someone else. But that's not part of my current discussion - nor should it have to be.)

Proposed college wrestling rule changes
GreatWhiteNorth replied to VakAttack's topic in College Wrestling
I'm pretty sure I dated that girl, but she was from Texas. -
That's the "whatbout'ism" again. I'm saying Jordan is playing the role of Trump guard dog like some halfwit stooge. You come back with the "what about Schiff?" as if Schiff's transgressions somehow excuse Jordan's. This is the kind of logic we hear on schoolyards at elementary schools across the country (and on Fox news.) We could both easily name a dozen politicians who are halfwits - it will never make Jordan acting like one OK.

Spencer Lee has entered the US Open
GreatWhiteNorth replied to bnwtwg's topic in International Wrestling
Spencer worked very hard to hide it - and did a really good job at it. But he wasn't walking around much better than my grandma does (but she's a tough old bird.) His knees aren't yet OK, and his legs aren't anywhere near where they would be if his knees were good. He's still in recovery mode. Which isn't to say he won't recover and be fine. It's just that he isn't anywhere near 100% yet. -
The beef may be something like this part of the article: "Now Mr. Jordan, 59, is using his perch on the judiciary panel to defend his most important political patron, Mr. Trump, and to attack his adversaries." I would agree that other politicians have also showed similar scummy behavior. (That part is nothing new.) To take on scummy behavior with the same "zeal" as Jordan is doing. That only makes it more disturbing. As good a wrestler as Jordan was, and as much as his family has been involved in supported our sport - what he's doing now is misguided and wrong-headed. It's time to vacate the position of guard dog for Trump - Trump won't need one when he's wearing an orange jumpsuit. And, regardless of how it all turns out, it's time to grow past that 'guard dog' role. It's a pathetic role not suitable for anyone but a halfwit.

Meatball Ron defeated by 2nd week of law school material
GreatWhiteNorth replied to VakAttack's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
Agree that he was being really serious - a really serious smirking a**hole. C'mon. Those are Tony Soprano tactics, not moves of any legitimate leadership of any party. -
No - not at all. My point is that blaming the "white left" wasn't helping our country's inability to find agreement - the very same agreement that we should all be pursuing instead of blaming other sides. Now instead of blaming "the other side" - now you've just changed it to "not our fault." Which still helps very little in pursuing agreement or common ground (which, in real life, we actually have quite a lot of.) What you're still doing is drawing a line between "us" and "them" and defending that line instead of realizing that this line is the very problem. The difference between sides isn't nearly as big as we're being "sold" on by politicians: Sensible left and sensible right are not that far apart. Wacko far left and sensible left are much further apart. Wacko far right and sensible right are also much further apart. The line between sensible parties isn't that big - we mostly agree most of the time. The lines between each party's wackos and opposing sensible groups are much more noteworthy. That's where we are being played by politicians and their BS. They are comparing wacko left to sensible right - and they make sense every time. Same thing when comparing wacko right to sensible left - always makes sense. Comparing wackos to sensible people isn't tough to argue - even for dummies like politicians. That's the trap we are getting caught up in.

My money is on Suriano - straight up. -
Latinx. The day I first read about it; all I could think of is that is it "incredibly stupid." I feel the same way today. Maybe there is a better explanation of what the point of the term is - but I have yet to see it. Don't blame the "white left" - you don't know that and provides nothing positive here. If you can make a sincere argument, do so. Otherwise, your comments only serve to divide us more.

Steveson is actually back!?!?
GreatWhiteNorth replied to Dark Energy's topic in International Wrestling
Maybe be cool with both his WWE career and his return to real wrestling. That'd be the super cool perspective. I see you as more of a super cool guy than a Debbie Downer type. -
Why does it say "Bob Dole Fans" under everyone's profile?
GreatWhiteNorth replied to Fletcher's topic in College Wrestling
This must be similar to what being Russians feels like - governing body engaged in behavior best described as stupidity, and at worst described as showing power for no other reason other than the show of it. Some will want to rebel, others will want to suck up to the phony power. Which side are YOU on? -
Gable Steveson returning to wrestling
GreatWhiteNorth replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
I hope you've spent some time trying to lose your gut. -
I am not at all surprised. To start with, you contradict yourself with your own post. You just posted a graph with measurements up to and including over 400,000 years ago as if it were real and relevant because you found it on the internet. The worst part is that the graph - on the far-right skyrockets for CO2. Indicating it isn't cyclical at all - it is actually skyrocketing. It's circled in red! On the credibility meter, this thread has descended into the nonsense zone... on that bombshell, I'm out.

I understand that. I think most of us do. It is a difficult thing to put in perspective. The argument that "the government is the problem, not the athletes" is problematic, because the athletes are representing their country and its government in competition. Part of their role is to bring success and glory to their country and leaders. The country, its people, its government, and its athletes are all inextricably bound together. A government cannot act without having to answer to its people to some degree. An athlete cannot win without bringing glory to their country to some degree. And so on... I would very much like to see a path that would allow Russian wrestlers to compete. I just don't see one.

Grand Jury votes to indict Trump
GreatWhiteNorth replied to Plasmodium's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
The fact is that the nutty people who called for defunding the police exist in both parties. If you look at people currently being arrested for and convicted of crimes, these criminals belong to both parties, too. To pin bad judgement or criminality on a specific political party is kind of silly. I could say that most flat-earthers and QANON believers are R's. That might be true, but it would be a silly thing to imply that the flat-earth and QANON concepts are somehow owned by the Republican party. They aren't. And anyone that blasts the R party for pushing those concepts is misguided. Why do politicians get elected who are wackos, you ask? Again, not a problem specific to either party. Plenty of wackos in both parties. IMO, way too many. My point is that there is no need to break these things down by making generalizations about a party. It doesn't serve any positive purpose. On the other hand, it comes in handy if the purpose is to try to vilify a specific party. Then it becomes a tool to encourage us to point fingers, spread anger and hate, and keep us all focused on fighting each other. The other party isn't the enemy. But getting people to believe they are, has shown to be an effective way to get votes. Which may explain why we keep electing wackos in both parties. -
You're right. Satire and comedy is open to all topics. But simply being satire or comedy doesn't make it actually funny. That's just my opinion. Your taste may differ.

Of all the things that could potentially lead to the demise of wrestling. Who would have thought that the biggest predator would be some of the wrestling coaches themselves. Did not see that one coming. All the talk about hard work and honor - and at the end of the day, just about money and medals. That's more than a little pathetic. Starting to look like wrestling's recent upward trajectory is taking a turn for the worse. Dammit.
