Your thoughts on SCOTUS decision on student loan denial
GreatWhiteNorth replied to Paul158's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
If you have something to add to the conversation - it would be welcomed by all. But posting someone else's twitter "post" is super weak... like brain dead weak. If you like someone else's post, read it - learn from it - then post what you've learned in your own words, as you, with your own thoughts. Be original, use your voice. That's why we're here. Nobody comes here to read twitter posts. They would go to twitter for that garbage. -
No, zip, zero, not at all. It is over and done.

Ahhh - so the point is that a 40+ billion cloud company is "hard" to run? I'm not at all sure who could be 'surprised' by that. The answer = absolutely nobody.

The DDoS service attacks? Like the ones that attack every internet service worldwide regularlyy? Yes. That is part of providing a public internet service - dealing with it is a cost just like electricity. Can't do business online without it. BUT slow down on the 'our own government organizations' part - I hope you aren't implying any of our government agencies are attacking Twitter. That would be crazy talk. (Like, seriously tin hat, cabin in the woods, bat shit crazy.)

Trump on tape admitting to the whole crime
GreatWhiteNorth replied to VakAttack's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
Character "flaw" or character "weakness" - tomato, tomahto. I do agree managing an economy, defense, and foreign policy is very important. And we had the Republic majority Senate there doing those very things... while Trump golfed, got his hair done, had his face sprayed orange, organized re-election rallies, and watched morning TV news programs while sending angry Tweets. He did sign everything the Rep's sent his way, even if he didn't remotely understand most of it. Because he didn't bother to read any of the executive reports that were sent to the desk of the President. But if that's what some want in the leader of the free world - then he is their guy. Me? I'd vote for a Republican over Biden. But he'd have to be an actual leader, not just an orange turd pretender, -
Answer = No taste benefit from BBQ the ENTIRE cook. As others have mentioned, the meat doesn't benefit from smoke much after the first hour or so. After that, you're basically just cooking with heat. Which is easily duplicated in an oven (and usually more accurately.) The thing is - if you're someplace hot, many would prefer to keep the cook going outside to keep the house cool. Not so much about the meat, but about the comfort in the house. In winter, I finish pork butts inside on a regular basis. Hours of even cooking, and extra warmth in the house. Win-Win.

... or maybe not if you (wisely) choose to not use the past as a guarantee for the future. Your take here is small in scope. Think decades further ahead.

Where would 3x Steveson rank?

Speaking of correctness, your sig was "Don't work here no more ... either. " Is that still correct? -
Trump on tape admitting to the whole crime

Because the references were ridiculously stupid? Seems like a weak strategy - to post stupid references from Twitter to "burn up" others here. Dunno, maybe better to not post Twitter garbage here. But you be you. -

Nope, Trump tape is as real as they get. Looks bad for the big, fat, orange dummy who thinks sharing top-secret documents is OK. -
BIG was one of my favorite posters. Granted - it was probably because he and I would fight tooth and nail over silly things like his infatuation with Troy Nickerson. Gotta like the fight. Turned out he was right. I missed any anti-girl stuff. Maybe I just didn't see it or catch it. The TWT forums turned into complete garbage after Schlottke passed.

I do like some of the ideas you've put out: Parenting - Yes, accountability norms should be brought back. Children shouldn't be allowed to misbehave with parental support. Internet Behavior - Yes, accountability for bad behavior on the internet should exist. Gun Crime - Yes, more severe punishments for those that commit crimes with guns. Parenting x2 - Holding parents accountable for their kids' actions seems like a good idea. The problem with these ideas is... Start an individual thread with each one, because each is so complicated that we couldn't possibly discuss all of them in the same thread with any semblance of order. It would be a mess. Oh, and the second problem is that, once you've started individual threads - that nobody will participate in those discussions. That may be the WORST of all the problems we face today. When we are actually able to dial it in to getting to solutions, people realize that participating is difficult and will take time and effort - and that they won't be able to cast around hurtful 'zingers' that give them immediate satisfaction (without accomplishing anything, of course.) And they'll pass. None of our over-hyped social media lends itself to any type of problem solving. It isn't in the 'solution' game, it's squarely in the 'complaining' game. Why so many young people seem to think its the future of communication isn't beyond me - it's because they are young, and don't know any better.

Conundrum for your favorite senator
GreatWhiteNorth replied to BobDole's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
Do not approve - then maybe contact him directly for some stern discussion. -
That is true - tragedy is the fuel that runs so many narratives. The same practice is used by all parties, all the time, without remorse. Unfortunately, that is the current, horrible political landscape. Why? Because it works. Even around here, see posts about "think of the children" as a way for posters to push their politics. Same crap - not about children, just more politics. Next question would seem to be "why does it work?" ... because so many of us tend to be honest and compassionate. The snakes take advantage of that all day long.

Sounds like you and Bernie are at odds. You being more "guns-for-everyone", and he being more "no-guns-for-crazies." Hmm.. seems like there is middle ground here. Which might be a sensible approach if we're looking to improve.

Meh. For some, maybe all alone, watching reruns on a 3rd hand Roku to pass the time. Can't walk, can't stand, and in constant pain. Alone in a short-term medical facility that smells like pooh (which scares off some potential future visitors after their first time.) Sometimes literally screaming for an aid for help as those aids quietly chat in the hallway on their break, just outside of view. Won't be the same problem for long, because insurance is about to run out. Then it may get depressing. I guess it's all about perspective. IMO, you are right to feel grateful and lucky.

Building a railroad from The Pacific to the Indian Ocean
GreatWhiteNorth replied to Paul158's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
True. But we are "our" cutthroat bully. Just like the animal kingdom. Generation after generation, evolution continues to be cruel. Still one thing doesn't change - better to eat than be eaten. -
Building a railroad from The Pacific to the Indian Ocean
GreatWhiteNorth replied to Paul158's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
Generalizing "people on the left", which is roughly half the population of the US as those that somehow "love to poo-poo" anything is pretty silly. (I'm being kind.) So... soo.. soooo.. many different opinions in that group of 165 million - incredibly different perspectives and opinions. The same goes for the "people on the right." They are not all the same, not even close. Oversimplifying politics, even with the help of some dopey news clowns whos' only goals are to get attention, isn't in anyone's best interest. This is the kind of junk that just dumbs down any potential real conversation. It is what the prevailing political winds have consisted of for a number of years now, but it's not like we can't tell the difference. Both parties. We should know better. Yes - yes - you are absolutely right - China is a cutthroat bully. Anybody that pays attention has known that for a long time. (Yes, the left, too.) Russia is also a cutthroat bully, although it seems Trump isn't in that camp yet (he called out Putin as being a genius for what he's doing in Ukraine and hasn't backed down from it yet.) Considering that he is a presidential candidate and that is his position, that is newsworthy and something worth considering. Why a solar farm in Angola? I don't know. But - who knows - maybe if we learn the facts, we may find out it is a good idea? Or maybe not. It may be an absolutely terrible idea. It is also newsworthy. But we're going to need facts here in order to have an intelligent conversation (rather than oversimplified, unfounded hysteria.) Oh - and the railroad from the Pacific across the Indian Ocean? I don't have any idea what he was saying - it was out of left field. My guess is he's an old guy who doesn't speak well to begin with and reminds me of Grandpa Simpson more often than I'd like. Just my opinion, but I think old guys like Biden and Trump need to be replaced with some sharper tacks. Just not replaced with mean-spirited turds who want to use anger and hate as tools to get elected - we don't need any of those folks in any type of office. From either party. There is no such thing as an angry, hateful, good leader. -
Bought a Traeger a while back - one of the ones they made in Oregon before switching to manufacturing in China. Unlike her Chinese counterparts, this ol' gal will probably last a lifetime. It was the 3-speed "Lo-Med-Hi" thermostat model. Was foresight from them, that's all you really need. Talked to some competition BBQ guys and got a little jealous - so I upgraded the thermostat to a fully adjustable one. Now I know - I didn't really need it, but it is kind of nice to have. Learning chicken and salmon was easy (both outstanding), ribs much more difficult (you'll end up ruining more than you would like) - but worth the effort. Once you get it dialed in, you'll make better ribs than any restaurant in town.

A Wrestler's Most Important Ability
GreatWhiteNorth replied to ILLINIWrestlingBlog's topic in College Wrestling
Adaptability. If you don't adapt, toughness and perseverance won't get you nearly as far. And, FWIW, the 90% mental is not "stupid" - it's about right. It is, of course, based on the assumption that your opponent is roughly as physically prepared as you are. These are things I learned as HS wrestler. If you didn't, either you didn't wrestle or maybe your coach didn't.
