  1. Desanto was not on Iowa when that occurred. It never happened again when he was on Iowa. Facts are tricky little things.
  2. Yes. Lots of success over Coleman Scott for one thing. Also: Tremendous program builder and developer of talent. Tons of job security. Why go to Stillwater, which has much tougher competition in Big 12, worse location (sorry; I really like the triangle), to a school that has a history of firing a reigning coach of the year for taking 2nd in NCAA?
  3. He may have been first?
  4. He may have been older than Hendrickson is today!
  5. So many "Olympic alternates" and "1980 Olympians" and "1980 Olympic Alternates" out there, at least there used to be!
  6. Maybe, but most likely fabrications.
  7. His mole is the Hawkeye board.
  8. How has Princeton held up? (I'm agreeing with you)
  9. I think Gutches lost wrestle-off to Charles Burton in Fargo.(I was there) I remember watching Cael at trials. I was impressed, but it also looked like he may have been trying to break Mike Van Arsdale's leg. It was stopped repeatedly. It would be nice if someone had a video? Van Arsdale won the bout btw.
  10. How many has he had? I thought he retired once, abruptly. Now he has made a post-surgery comeback that is still ongoing. Unless I'm wrong, which is possible, this makes his only farewell tour.
  11. This is what happened; it seems as if a lot of people misremember it. I think Gutches hit a couple feet to backs to win.
  12. What Olympic champ did Cael dethrone while still in college?
  13. Reasons why to pick Hidlay: Younger, fewer injury concerns, more NCAA success, more international success. This doesn't even bring intangibles into account.
  14. Not sure I would pick Gomez over Hidlay!
  15. Metcalf was pretty good and had some great wins (Sidakov); just couldn't put it together at Worlds. "Quick Single" on the old board, who was a technique snob of the highest order said that Metcalf was one of our best technicians at the time. That really made me pay a bit more attention.
  16. I don't think it was ever in the cards. Last time Vito made 57 kg, he went 1-2 at U23. That was one year before he won worlds up a weight. Also last time he and Spencer wrestled at 57, Vito got teched.
  17. It seems to me that other countries, particularly Iran might be just as good (or better) with stepouts as a nation. However, I don't have the #s to prove this. All anecdotal.
  18. My understanding is that both Missouri and Oklahoma State are fairly close to large Air Force bases.
  19. I just watched a video about Cox training Greco with Coon, with Coon basically saying Cox could be a force in the classical style.
