  1. Right. PSU was a given based on your "PSU and other schools." Keep in mind that PSU wasn't exactly killing it either. They were top ten but nowhere near a trophy and they were the second best team in PA. Big 8 had 4 schools in the top 10, Big 10 had 1.
  2. What "others" of note? Maryland? Rutgers?
  3. It is going to start getting even easier. Columbia, for one, has just dropped SATs as a requirement for admissions. This makes it much that easier to gain admission for a kid who has solid grades, and a "hook" or "talent" of some sort but struggled on entrance exams.
  4. I know. Wasn't sure if the original poster was counting Blair/St. Benedicts, as they are not NJSIAA. Wasn't sure if he was referring to geography or athletic association.
  5. Do you count Perry, Evans, or Mocco as NJ? And if you do, that was a while back...
  6. Looks good. Hasn't OK been a bit down, with the exception of Stillwater and Edmond North?
  7. Pretty good list. I might put WI ahead of NY right now. Iowa is also very strong at the moment.
  8. Mom just made a great post on social media about the Journeyman classic. Seems to be a nice person. Best post I have seen all day! No offense meant toward anyone here!
  9. Thanks for questioning me! I just went back and listened again. (Keep in mind I rewound this part a couple times last night, but I was also walking a Golden Retriever.) 22:03 Basch: When did you start deciding that you might want to enter the portal? Nagao: It was... uh...you know you ask(ed?) me two weeks ago and it wasn't even a thought... but you ask me a week ago ...that's when the thoughts and considerations... I considered opening the portal up. So, I now have a different interpretation thanks to your question. I'm guessing he is not implying that Basch contacted him initially and just saying that at some point the idea just popped into his head. So I apologize to anyone and everyone: Basch, Nagao, PSU, etc.
  10. Apparently, Basch contacted him to see his thoughts on the transfer portal. He thought about it. A week later he was in... No bags of cash have been offered. Yet.
  11. I'm not sure what to expect from Teske. I try to keep in mind that it sounds like he missed a lot of time this year due to a serious case of staph. I'm not sure exactly how bad, or how much it effected him, but he missed quite a few matches. Something to think about.
  12. Perfectly legal. His knees are on the mat behind the rear starting line and his hands are in front of the forward line. Anyone can do this. I have. I've also coached it.
  13. 5th U23 Worlds is it? Does that do it? Also said he is focusing on folk for the moment.
  14. Nagao was on Basch-a-mania yesterday. It really sounded like Basch contacted him about transfer portal a couple weeks ago. Nagao said something about not considering it until Basch contacted him, but deciding to enter the portal a week later. This was sort of "glossed over" but it certainly sounded like what happened. Basch made sure that Nagao said he has not been offered any money by anyone at this point.
  15. A mutual friend visited him when he was undergoing treatment. He told me Jeff was doing backstep drills while he had IVs in him.
  16. I believe he was allowed to live in a University owned property as a condition of employment.
  17. Yes, all I was saying is that the weight class had not been completely cleared out in 84. A doped Johansson is proof of that. I never said Blatnick would have won a fully attended games. Not to mention Blatnick had beat cancer not too long before that!
  18. Thanks. We appreciate your take, Thomas.
  19. Agreed, but still pretty funny.
  20. Minnow called Slav to Michigan lol
  21. No, freestyle refs just break holds instantly if they think it looks bad, no questions asked. Communicating with athletes is also communicating with coaches simultaneously. You are letting them know how you see things, and what to expect if a move starts getting a bit more iffy. Same thing for communicating who is in control during scrambles starting in top/bottom. As a ref, you want to let the wrestlers and coach how you see the position and who is in control. You know, maybe you're right. Should we call neutral danger, or just award points? How about verbal nearfall count? Also not sure why you bring up the military? Do you realize they communicate in the military?
  22. A thing that is interesting to me regarding Cael vs. Gable, and I have brought this up before, is how they have won their titles. Someone ran the numbers a couple months ago. Gable was averaging an absurd number of All-Americans every year, 7 or 8? Ridiculous numbers. Cael has mostly been doing it with 5 or so absolute monsters every year and getting his points that way, but not as many placers. I don't know what this means, which is better, or anything. I just find it interesting.
  23. Interesting. I've heard one of today's top coaches say John Smith is one of the few American wrestlers from 30ish years ago who's skills WOULD translate. Also, in the 90s and early 2000s, American par terre offense was way better than it is today. This is especially in comparison to the wrest of the world. Schultz was a beast on top. Smith. Cross in his Olympic run. Look at Zeke's win over Jordanov. Townshend Saunders made a final based largely on par terre offense. Slay gutting Satiev. Baumgartner was sold. That is just off the top of my head, but all those guys were threats to score just about every time they got on top. Who is dangerous from par terre today? Dake with his gut. Taylor with folkstyle. Who else is a threat against anyone?
  24. Until someone's shoulder gets ripped out. Or a guy gets penalized for an illegal hold and the point costs him the match. "Preventative officiating."
