  1. Is it safe to say they aren't doing a great job managing their athletes' health? SVN, Howard, etc.? Heck, Starocci may have won it, but seems to be headed to maybe his third surgery in a year.
  2. Was this before or after the 4-4 criteria squeaker DT won over JB on that Flo card?
  3. Is he drinking alcohol? My understanding was that Nickal didn't touch alcohol, not to mention he has a fight in less than a week. Seems a weird time to start.
  4. Wait... another thread lists Illinois as one of the many teams that is surpassing Iowa!
  5. Wonder how he would have felt if they scored a bunch of bonus on the backside?
  6. I was told by somebody who knows what he is talking about that a big part of any problem is that Iowa has "two bad cops" who are clearly running the show. One "bad cop" might work, but two is apparently not optimal. I still think they are doing pretty well as the second best program, just passing along what I had heard.
  7. And Ed Ruth doesn't coach there.
  8. I've said before, probably on this very thread, that I am a fan of the stepout rule in freestyle, but probably not folkstyle. Folkstyle top/bottom is inherently different than freestyle par terre. This would create odd situations and ways to game the system that I don't think a lot of people have considered. It could potentially make things more confusing for refs and for fans. (two groups we don't want to get any more confused, and I am a member of both groups) I would love to see edge wrestling penalized and basically eliminated. I'm not sure if a stepout point is the best solution.
  9. Not sure why this came up, it is not a new story whatsoever. It worked out for RBY and Nickal, but totally inappropriate to do to a kid socially and academically. Both RBY and Nickal had great careers and are continuing to do so. I'm an educator, I have a bit of knowledge on this stuff. I would imagine that most kids who were to go through a similar process would be negatively impacted. "Summer learning loss" is a big thing, especially in disadvantaged communities. This was turning summer learning loss into an entire, year ... actually probably 14 months. They also probably learned a couple bad lessons about playing by societal rules and being responsible. Sometimes people commit crimes and there is no obvious damage to anyone. I'm glad it worked out for these two, or seems to have. I wouldn't suggest other go through a similar process. I am more open to repeating a year and actually receiving socialization and education.
  10. Glazier had a bad tournament, but way better season than expected. Other lesser names such as Hill and Siebricht, though not world beaters, have shown themselves to be significantly improved. None had great NCAA tournaments, though... but either did Davis, Nagao, Hamiti, and many others.
  11. 170 were his best results. (But was cutting down from 215+) Meanwhile John Smith barely cut weight and looks like he could make 136.5 tomorrow.
  12. I thought Croatia? Regardless, in the Balkans.
  13. When compared to what PSU is doing right now, almost anything anyone else does looks bad. I have no problem with having differing opinions, skillsets, etc. on any team of coaches.
  14. No, I'm not. I get the rest of your "diversity' thing; just not the "no twins" part. I know sets of identical twins that are completely different people and offer very different perspectives on a number of issues. Just because they are identical twins doesn't mean they can't complement one another. In fact, I remember Tony Ramos being mad at Tom, but still loving Terry for instance.
  15. So we should discriminate against twins? I don't get it. If you don't like them or don't think they are good, that is fine... "but no twins." Brother are ok; just not twins. Weird.
  16. And Ruth not at Illinois.
  17. How many Sandersons at PSU?
  18. Geez, almost as if no PSU wrestlers ever get hurt. Or do they? Iowa looked healthier at season's end this year than did PSU.
  19. What would have happened if Carter had to wrestle high volume attackers for his murderer's row last weekend? Lewis isn't exactly Mesenbrink. Griffith never had a high offensive output and he was also quite hobbled. Welch, I haven't seen a lot of, but while he's tough as nails, it doesn't seem as if he's Metcalf 2.0 on offense. Carter was fantastic this weekend, but his opponents didn't seem to go after him on Friday or Saturday. I know the threat of reattack is there, but I don't think it'll stop JB.
  20. This is a little more than just a list of names.
  21. And last time he made that cut, he went 1-2 at an age group tournament.
  22. Actually, there is.
  23. Fix is very good there and prob would have been happy to hang out.
