  1. George DiCamillo from UVA was Rd of 12 3x before losing to Heil in 141 finals in 2017.
  2. it happens almost every year. in additon to those noted in original post, and I hate to say it cause I am rotting for Nino B, I think it could happen at 197 with Dean or Sloan.
  3. we need more post match interviews like this
  4. Killian Cardinale. Was ranked top 10 I believe before forfeiting out of Big 12 tournament. Plus he's from Virginia, and we need as many Va HS products in the tournament as possible.
  5. I agree with all you said re mat side interviews, my opinion is that he's especially bad at it. Feels even more awkward than most.
  6. how old were some of the recent Michigan guys by the time the finally finished up? Micic, Myles Amine, Massa?
  7. I like Gibbons and don't mid Sparks. The guy they had doing mat side interviews was pretty bad.
  8. I think Iowa St only had 5 qualifiers when they placed 2nd in 1996.
  9. Nice effort by the host school so far
  10. Stieber going from 65-5 to 119-3 might be one of the most impressive streaks mentioned yet. 54 wins and negative 2 losses, who else had a run like that?
  11. Virginia Tech seems like they have a decent shot
  12. on paper that Iowa team was not supposed to score near as many points as they did, so you never know. I don't think PSU does it, frankly I don't think they come that close, but they do have the horses to make a run. Iowa that year: Whitmer 6 seed/champ; Mena 4 seed/2nd; Ironside 1st seed/champ; Gillis unseeded/6th; Mac 1st seed/champ; Williams 1st seed/champ; Uker 5th seed; 5th; Ersland unseeded/rd of 12; Fullhart 5th seed/champ; Hand unseeded/rd of 12. So Iowa placed higher than seed in many weights and didn't falter anywhere really. Can PSU do close to that even?
  13. Henry Milligan went on to be a decent amateur boxer, made Olympic trials. Also think he played multiple sports at Princeton.
  14. can't open wrestlingstats right now for some reason but the bracket when Mark Branch won 167 his freshman year was a busted pretty good. I think he and other finalist were both unseeded (only seeded to 12 then?) and pretty sure either the 1 or 2 seed DNP.
  15. I was pretty good until the semi finals. I think my winning percentage in that round was around 10%.
  16. Guessing - whoever has the most conference wins overall gets higher seed. So if any of them missed conference matches that could hurt.
  17. Little trivia - Larry Owings only loss that year was to Grant and to your pout I think Owings wrestled anywhere from 150-167 during reg season and then dropped to 142 to go after Gable.
  18. 177 the year Schultz beat Banach also had Reiss from NCState I think for 3 champs.
  19. Possible addition to the list - pretty sure Dan Gable and Mike Grant wrestled when they were both already champs, Gable's senior year.
  20. local selfishness says JMU, ODU, William & Mary, Virginia State and the various other programs that have been cut in Virginia. It has been very nice to see tremendous growth in Virginia at the D3 level though.
  21. with this I still don't get the logic that allowed anyone the opportunity to compete in the NCAA tournament 5 times.
  22. how many schools total have wrestling in Indiana? I love the 1 division for individual champions, or at least less than the 6 (plus private schools with their own) we have here in Virginia.
  23. TJ started at 126 for Oklahoma St. My guess is he transferred the year they were banned from post season not because of comp in the room.
  24. Score? AOC is just a matchup problem for Andonian.
  25. 133 = 126 which was 2nd lowest weight most recently 1998. For fun I’d like the PSU only 126/133 Time Machine round robin between RBY, Sanshiro Abe, and Jim Martin. Non PSU how about RBY, Guerrero, Terry Brands, Barry Davis, and Dan Cuestas.
