  1. Jackson Turley became an All-American a few years back after getting an at-large bid and here he is again.
  2. Old school Italian team, 1981 190 weight class: 1st, Tom Martucci, 2nd Tony Mantella, 3rd Geno Savegnago
  3. runner-up at national tournament iirc
  4. No fair Penn State has two guys at 174 174 lbs. 1) Levi Haines (PSU) Carson Kharcla (OSU) Lenny Pinto (PSU) more seriously, a Turley / Pinto quarterfinal could be fun.
  5. SoCon still stands alone, MAC and EWL merged a few years back.
  6. the untimely passing of Saitiev made me think of Brandon Slay, who deserves mention for the all Jesus team.
  7. TJ wrestled freshman year at a juco, then 3 for Iowa. Yes, his only loss as a Hawkeye was his junior year.
  8. funny I was thinking of him as well, even though he didn't wrestle in the 3 years only era. The late Larry Quisel denied TJ that 3 year soph - senior unbeaten run.
  9. I had a similar match in HS. Unfortunately, I played the role of Frank the Tank and not Kid Dynamite
  10. few older ones that come to mind - Mitch Clark, Mike Sheets, Tim Krieger
  11. yep '81 EIWA finals.
  12. found it, Dan Gable was pinned in competition, '68 trials- You learn not to get greedy - Sports Illustrated Vault | SI.com 'He still had to beat Huff. Though both defeated NCAA champion Dan Gable in their first round-robin matches, Douglas had only decisioned Gable 11-1, whereas Huff had pinned him in 1:10.'
  13. Dan Gable was pinned at Olympic or world team trials one year. think it was '68 Olympic trials but not positive.
  14. yes, Chad Red pinned him blood round Heil's senior year.
  15. Bruce Baumgartner was pinned in two straight NCAA finals before winning it as a senior. Tom Brands was pinned in less than 20 seconds at Midlands by Alan Fried. Kyle Snyder was pinned in his 1st NCAA final.
  16. mathing is hard - same scenario but the 10 lose in blood rd = 15 team points?
  17. Gable did have Mark Sindlinger in the 80's. Starter on Rose Bowl football team and Big Tem champ, AA on the mat.
  18. at NCAA tournament, I found 2 wins by Cael over future champs. In 1999 semi-final at 184, he pinned Brad Vering in 1:59. Vering won it 197 the next season. In 2000 quarter final, he won 20-5 over Rob Rohn. Rohn won it at 184 in 2002.
  19. fwiw Demeray dropped back to 150 in 1992 and won NCAA tournament while Smith was winning his 3rd title at 158. That year Smith beat Ray Miller in the finals, Miller would win title next season at 167. Smith also beat eventual 3x champ Joe Williams his senior year (1994) by TF in the dual (Joe was a freshman).
  20. a few more Carl Adams, Mike Grant, Stewart Carter, Pete Bush.
  21. 1st two weights are stacked: 125: Lee (also could go at 133), Nickerson, Garrett (also in running for 133), Old school Dave Auble 133: Vito, David Hirsch 141: Mark Fergerson? 149: Yianni 157: Leen 165: Dake 174: Lewnes 184: Dean 197: Simaz 285: ?
  22. while there was little offense, the matches for the most part were in doubt until the end, plus team score going back and forth made for a decent dual. I also came away feeling like if I absolutely had to put money on wrestlers from this dual making AA at end of the year the only guys I'd take are Mendez and Feldman.
  23. and 2 of those losses were to KOT and Crookham, and the 3rd loss was by a back-up 141.
  24. Gene Mill Joe Gonzalez
