  1. Rohn and Trenge for Lehigh in 2002 was another good 1-2 (and that's what they placed that year). Of their 9 combined wins at that tournament, 7 were pins.
  2. Banachs in 1983 as well
  3. add Douglas and Chaid for Oklahoma, 1985
  4. Teague Morre and Eric Guerrero Oklahoma State '97-'99 were a good 1-2 punch TM 4,1,3 over those 3 seasons, EG 1,1,1
  5. or Eggum, Hartung
  6. you could do an Iowa only on this topic and be rock solid: Ed and Lou Banach the year Ed was at 190 Brands bros Steiner Bros Zap and Terry Brands Alger and Rico Strittmatter and Juergens etc
  7. Jason Bryant would know for sure, but I think Ryan Williams either got sick or injured the year he placed 7th after being one of the favorites or maybe another year he was picked to win and got sick/injured...anyway, still a great story.
  8. of swimming, diving, and wrestling....Mark Lenzi won Olympic Gold in diving in '92 and then earned Bronze in '96. He was a district champ in wrestling before deciding to focus on diving. I beat him once in a summer tournament and revisionist history joke I make is it was that defeat that led him to hang up the shoes and try to be the next Louganis. Added bonus - I beat an Olympic Gold medalist in wrestling.
  9. I'll look later but off the top of my heard, does Uetake make the 3 for 3 wrestle to seed every year club?
  10. Put wrestlers in a pool and sooner or pool wrestling will occur. I had a HS 'mate who was 6'5" and wrestled 185 (state qualifier). He was also a good (local level) competitive swimmer. That dude was the king of pool wrestling.
  11. Pat Smith was seeded #1 all 4 years he won it
  12. escapes me now, think he wrestled for Iowa St? 20-25ish years ago?
  13. Steve Martin messed that up
  14. hell of an endorsement for our fine sport.... and yes I know I'm picking something out and not using in context of overall point, but still
  15. does the Gorilla get the win if he defeats one Mesenbrink by pinfall or must he pin all 100?
  16. stylistically reminds me a little of Lincoln McIlravy
  17. still think it would have been cool for PJ Duke to have signed with Duke. Or better yet, in a perfect world, JMU still has a program, and he wrestles for the Dukes.
  18. still doesn't help Virginia lol
  19. for all my commentary on this subject, I don't follow HS results like I did 10+ years ago, but here goes. GB, Cox, Grundy, CBurg all still big time within the state but down nationally. This is not the GB of Frishkorn bros, Michael Martin, Staylors, Bond, Siordes, Chris Brown era. Having 6 divisions plus private schools having their own vs 3 and privates years back is part of it. Not knocking the kids, but not too many have to get through a hammer or more to win a state title.... part of my surprise with VA too though was thought D3 might carry us here. Lots of programs in recent years added and doing pretty well an I think with decent level of in state kids. But we don't have D2 that I know of or NAIA so maybe that is part of it when total numbers get added up.
  20. thanks for confirming my recall that this is not a great PA year. and yeah, that's what I meant, not seeing California in top 15ish is a little surprising. and for my home state, a certain amount of the more casual fan base thinks we're not PA or OH or NJ but pretty competitive otherwise. Nope not there at this point, and if anything, losing ground to states like NC and GA in our general vicinity.
  21. PA with only 6 D1 AAs has to be a pretty down year for them historically, right? California not being on there jumps out as well. and Virginia is not on there. sigh....
  22. Nickerson in 2009 at 125. Defeated 2008 champ Escobedo in semis and 2007 champ Donahoe in finals.
  23. Maybe I’m arguing the wrong point but it’s the guys who aren’t short for the weight class and still jacked that baffle me. Palmer in OP is one thing. The guy on that team that had hollow bones or something was Bo Jordan.
