Potential Record Setting Year for PSU/Starocci/Sanderson

He was injured. He had the most points the prior two years did he not? -
Tanner Hall in his 42nd year at Arizona State skews it for them.

The dual we all want to see, but just don't know it yet...
nhs67 posted a topic in College Wrestling
Greetings All, Meandering about and trying to figure out how and what and where and it got me thinking... both Oklahoma and Illinois could be sneaky good this year. Providing the coaching staffs do what is needed to help everyone make that next step (or more) and stay healthy - they both have the potential to have ten national qualifiers (each). How would this dual shake out? How do some of the guys who are changing weights perform? Wrestlestat has it as Illinois 19 - Oklahoma 12 however, at first appearance it appears every match could be a toss-up. https://www.wrestlestat.com/compare/perma/754/oklahoma-vs-illinois 125 - Lorenzo, OU VS Attasauov, ILL 133 - Belton, OU VS Byrd, ILL 141 - Schwartz, OU VS Pucino, ILL 149 - McDougald, OU VS Webster, ILL 157 - Wiley, OU VS Kraisser, ILL 165 - Picklo, OU VS Scoles, ILL 174 - Sax, OU VS Brawnagel, ILL 184 - Parker, OU VS Ruth, ILL 197 - Bradley, OU VS Brawnagel, ILL 285 - Mora, OU VS Luffman, ILL If this match were to go 30-0 either way, the result would surprise me, yes however, I could see any one of these twenty guys defeating their counterpart in a tightly pitched match. "Oh, no. Webster is a class above McDougald" Yes. I agree. McDougald beat Watters (WVU) last year convincingly. Ergo, this could be a match. "Schwartz is way better than Pucino." I also agree. The results given show that they are comparable against comparable opponents. Ergo, a match between them could be tightly pitched, were they to rematch. What are everyone else's thoughts on this dual? Every match would be a grind and I am for that. Especially since I don't see any 1-1 OT type matches here. -
Arizona State - How does it shake out?

It is his 6th year, not 8th. Tanner Hall was in for 24 years before people noticed. This should be nothing new for heavyweights at ASU. That said, he hasn't even used a medical or an Oly-shirt, so there are quite a few that have been in for longer than he has. -
It is hard to disagree with this. Even taking the current dumpster fire that is the Middle East in to account. The UWW should look further away from these 'hot' zones for host sites. Finland and Poland both lost age level stuff last year because of proximity and not because of discrimination. Both should be considered if they're going to do that, not just one. On the other side of it, I also think having U17s in Jordan this year was potentially dangerous. It ended up not being dangerous, but if you move from Finland and Poland, you have to move from Jordan (where Israel has shot missiles through to get to Yemen recently). On yet another side of it, if you were to make sure the proximity of the competitions were in a location that were a certain distance from active warfare, you're only able to hold any competition in Iceland - ever... maybe Hawaii or New Zealand (are the Aussies still fighting those damn Emus?!).

Campbell Wrestling is about to cut their program
nhs67 replied to TNwrestling's topic in College Wrestling
I know it sucks to see, but the numbers don't really lie. They are a large program (~50 kids), right? Since they opted in, they will be forced to reduce down to 30 as a cap. They would still be bringing in less to the school even if they had zero scholarships for wrestling. I fear this is not the last of this. -
Can't have him and Munoz at 197 at the same time.

Arizona State - How does it shake out?
nhs67 replied to RegularStalling's topic in College Wrestling
By their own standards: Yes. Do you not see Hawkeye fans everywhere preaching how the Brands bros, who are the 2nd most succsssful program behind Sanderson's Penn State, need to be fired and that they are shit coaches? Their standard is #1. They perform subpar when they do not attain a #1 finish at the end of the season. Again, if you wish to throw all sorts of asterisks up there, we can say whoever we want is #2... or #3... or #4, etc. If getting 4th twice in 20 years (not close to 3rd either time, btw) is elite to you, fine. As I said before, I have no horse in that race just a different standard for what elite is. I am going to enjoy watching many of their wrestlers because it is entertaining. -

nhs67 replied to RegularStalling's topic in College Wrestling
Keep adding asterisks, why don't we? Let us only count the points at nationals from weights in which ASU had placers. That should show that they're at worst the 2nd best program in the land. Now, knowing that what I just said is stupid - let us evaluated based on their own measure of standards - a team trophy. They have two team trophies in Zeke's time. 20% of the time. That isn't good enough. For a team that wants one every year, they have failed 80% of the time under Zeke. That is subpar. -
Redding, Johnson, Swiderski, Chittum, Gaitan, and Riggins are all dinged up or in some way unable to participate in the wrestleoffs...
-
If you Google it with UWW it still pops up Tank Sadulaev. He would have to have never wrestled an international match to not pop up. Possible, I suppose.
-
Also interesting is that Sadulaev is listed at 92 KG on the poster. Is there an allowance?

First off, I apologize @RegularStalling. I was an asshat there and I owe you an apology for being such. I do and he does. He was a former MGR World Teamer, so he had Oly-Shirt eligibility last year. Key was that is what I want, I know nothing on his physical location, size, or mental state. He did the 'old' Ivy League Greyshirt. Deferred enrollment while he strictly trained for a year. -
UWW don't count good.

I am not trolling, i am being contrarian. I have no horse in the race. I also thought the term 'mediocre' was aptly used since we are, in fact, talking about a program that strives and is expected to compete for a trophy every year. When they don't achieve that far more often than they do, that is subpar. The actual definition of subpar is 'below standard.' The definition fits. Zeke nor anyone else within the program will tell you that anything better than 36th place is acceptable, or on par. Elitist is absolute shit word usage and ignorant as hell to use. This is a ***ducking** BBS. Toughen up and don't let words hurt you. -

Under Zeke: 2024 - 6th 2023 - 7th 2022 - 4th 2021 -4th 2019 - 12th 2018 - 10th 2017 - 14th 2016 - 36th 2015 - 29th Again, for a team that expects a trophy every year, they have been subpar as a whole. Since 2004 they have averaged 15th place. -

For a team that wants a trophy (or better) every season, they have been subpar. -
Now if Stanich comes out and destroys him, what happens? To be clear, they're teammates so I doubt there will be any sort of destroying going on. Does Hines then wrestle Griffin? Loser there wrestle Brignola? Loser there wrestle Dubler? Or do they just do a lineup shift for what is best for the team?
-
Stanich going from 125 to 141? That is pretty dope.

Bo Bassett Narrows His College List..........From 80 to 73
nhs67 replied to RandolphTJones's topic in College Wrestling
I believe he is a Frosh this year. That said, as IaW eludes to below, once the 'coach' is gone they won't draw the numbers/names. I believe he will look to follow to wherever his boys are heading which, to me, seems to be pretty likely Rutgers. -
2024-25 Collegiate P4P Discussion - Who Goes and who No Shows?
nhs67 replied to nhs67's topic in International Wrestling
Nomad is suggesting, and he isn't wrong, that we are and have been spoiled the last couple/few cycles. Keeping it purely cyclical, I suppose taking the P4P from 23-24, 19-20, and 15-16 and comparing those three would be apt. Was there a P4P for 11-12. I don't have time now, but I might later. -

Bishop McCort wasn't much prior to the Bassetts and their family heading there. I don't expect them to remain much after the younger Bassett has graduated - all respects due. -
A couple of things to consider about the logjam there is that Johnson and Echemendia are still expected to wrestleoff for the 149lbs spot. If Echemendia loses, does he go back down to 141, or up to 157? What does that do about 157, if Echemendia goes down? Do we see Swiderski come out and chop wood?

He is also 5'6" tall. I don't think that will equate well for his style.
