  1. Well Corby not for nothing but he has his family growing in or right outside of Philly which is the worst it’s been crime wise in 3 decades , it’s not like Bloom is this big city he d need to live in , plenty of nice quiet places he could live in the surrounding area and probably get a lot of property for cheap , who knows maybe the man aspires to be a head coach and he sees this as a way to break in , he lives pretty close, he is an alum , he’s financially stable enough that 75k a year might not scare him away and he might not change the world but he ll immediately give them a bump in recruiting and hype . My whole point is why not give it a shot if you re a failing program that less then 10 years ago was having good success with this very guy as the leader ..also not like this guy in a NC or 4x AA if he wants to be a head coach at a big program one day he’ll have to start somewhere small and prove himself what better place then bloom
  2. https://pennsylvaniartc.org/richard-perry-hosts-free-clinics-in-middletown-ct/ you can argue about semantics all day idc
  3. I understand your point but on the Penn RTC page they literally refer to Perry as former world team wrestler , seen other guys like Aaron brooks and Joey McKenna referred to in the same manner as well
  4. He wasn’t a starter but he was definitely the 1st alternate and made the team, he was on the team training when the accident with his eye occurred
  5. I’m pretty sure the Perry family is probably set financially and he’s involved in wrestling for the sheer love of the sport , what does a school like Bloom have to lose trying to get an alum to breathe some life in a dead program
  6. Walsh made a final his senior year , the entire family had a wild style , saw Taylor throw a lot of people on their heads in youth and high school
  7. If I were Bloomsburg I would be trying to bring Rich Perry in, he’s a world team member , alum that won over 100 matches 4x ncaa qualifier lost in R12 and was the captain of the last winning Bloomsburg team..he’s only 2 hrs away right now on the penn RTC staff , he may not be the biggest name but guys like Jordan Burroughs arent coaching at Bloomsburg or sacred heart anytime soon
  8. Well I agree with your take on the pee wee through high school , every high school team in the country has a batch of the rowdy kids , heck coaches look for those sorts of guys but at the D1 level I don’t think kids failing out past freshman year is as big of a concern as it is for coaches of other sports . Idk much about D2 and D3 nowadays so you could be right about that but strictly from a D1 standpoint I think the years and level of dedication to reach that level makes those guys mature enough to handle the school side of things when they get to college. I also think the big time wrestler culture has been shifting to a cleaner lifestyle for years , the days of national champs getting DUIs at Taco Bell and Iowa wrestlers drunk shooting teammates seem more of the exception than the rule in 2023 , for every Ferrari you have 3 Pat glorys who spend 10 hrs minimum a week studying and putting in the school work while also weight cutting and practicing I get your point about the small school stuff , if an edinboro or Bloomsburg suddenly had half the team failing those programs are most likely getting the axe , or a Fresno state situation where they were looking for a reason to shut the program down and they found one but I just don’t see any head coach letting that happen right now maybe @Jason Bryant has some gpa or academic info on wrestling that can shine some light on this topic
  9. I’d argue the opposite, when is the last time you heard of a big name wrestler or even an AA level guy fail out of school or be held out of matches for grades ? Happens every year in football, basketball , baseball and I can’t think of one example really, maybe Teasedale when he was at PSU but I don’t think he was even in school for a full year and he was redshirting , guaranteed the wrestling team has a higher GPA than most sports at most schools
  10. Not bad considering Zabriskie was national champ 2 years later
  11. I think you are furthering my point Corby …Stutzman who is a solid guy and decent not great coach got Bloomsburg to a pretty solid level and maintained for 8 years so it shows with the right guys Bloomsburg can be much better then they’ve been the past 10 yrs
  12. Bloomsburg needs some new energy and voices in the room , under Dan Wirnsberger from 2002-2005 they went 26-22 with 2 NQ each of the first 2 years then 6 in his final season , John Stutzman went 97-56-1 from 2005-2013 with an average of 5 qualifers a season including 2x AA Matt Moley as well as a few top 8 seeded guys and bloodround finishers like Richard Perry and Frank Hickman , since Stutzman left in 2013 the team they’ve gone 39-106 ,had 0 qualifers in 14,15,16,17 and a grand total of 6 NQ since 2013 which is how many they had Stutzman final season something needs to change otherwise I could see the program getting dropped altogether due to the financial situation of most PA schools
  13. Fun fact the head coach of the Ponaganset program is none other than the infamous Pat Mineos brother, wrestled at Maryland but I think injuries derailed his career also has long time Brown head coach Dave Amato on the staff
  14. Agreed but he felt better doing it at cal poly lol
  15. Bono guys typically have gotten worse not better over their careers at Wisconsin because they overtrain like it’s still 1992 , Evan wick talked about it after the transfer that his body was breaking down and yet he’s waking up at 5 A.M. to go on mandatory team runs
  16. I agree while I think rock Harrison seems like a good guy I personally cannot stand his announcing, Hardell Moore is great
  17. D3 kid had multiple attempts , had the leg up in the air and D2 kid dived roll and they scrambled to a stalemate quite a few times so idk where u get the no attempts to score , D2 kid also had 2 committed shots but he didn’t have much of an angle he was coming straight on, and not for nothing but 2 national champs took the match on very short notice , both had to make weight and hop on flights to PA. Credit to both guys for stepping in and taking on a challenge , also always nice to seem D3 keeping d2 in check
  18. Hidleys first move off the whistle was 3 euro steps backwards to the line then sink an under hook and literally never gets called for stalling
  19. Crazy Max Askren is the last non PSU, Cornell, UNI winner and those 3 schools could very well be the top 3 seeds this season
  20. I remember massa saying something in a post match interview at ncaas I believe about him not doing anything or wanting to wrestle never heard a negative thing about Mekhi as a person though
  21. Luke Stanich is the real deal , been watching him since his freshman year of high school , went to a small public high school so I think he has a chance to jump even more levels in that Lehigh room ,Stanich has beaten mason Gibson and lost to him conversationally as well so come march or a year from now that might not be such a bad loss
  22. strickenberger beat Brandon Kaylor his 1st match for WVU and has looked like a really solid get for Tim Flynn , his offense is still high level so far even with the jump in talent level.Kaylor beat Ayala yesterday and a lot on here feel he’s a title threat so I think Steickenberger looks like a guy who could compete for a podium spot this season
  23. It’s discussed by Marcus LeVesseur on the wrestling changed my life podcast , Ben was walking around the tournament with a giant boom box in his shoulder all day
  24. Did Robbie Howard pin your kid or date your daughter or something ? It’s mid November of a season that ends mid march , the guy has the same amount of Ls as the returning ncaa finalist at the weight and he lost to a guy who never AAed and a high school kid , the kid missed 2 years of wrestling and has one half season of folk style since his HS career ended ,thank god you aren’t a coach at penn state bc you would’ve sent Cassar packing the second he lost to garret Hoffman
