I'd argue that Hendrickson essentially does the same thing to this field. Mesenbrink tech'd the #2 wrestler at his weight. We'll see if Gable can dominate the two top contenders in the same way.

I don't see how Crookham or O'Toole could be looked at any differently than Starocci last year. No one knew whether Starocci could wrestle going into NCAAs and they still gave him an at-large. The same with Suriano his freshman year where he actually took the allocation and didn't compete. I am unfamiliar with the subjective considerations, but if they were implemented to rectify the thievery of earned allocations, I suppose that's good enough for me.
-
Look here to see the handiwork of our very own @Wrestleknownothing in greater detail. His post and the recent discussion of allocations led me to wonder what you all prefer. 1. The accuracy of seeding all 33 wrestlers and having more consistent results 2. The excitement of seeding only the top 16 and seeing where the other wrestlers fall into the bracket causing more variability in early round matchups and potential for bracket-busters.
-
There should be common sense included in allocations as well. I think it's wrong to punish the B1G 157 pound weight-class because Jacori Teemer didn't meet criteria for an allocation. As SHP stated, someone is a victim and going to have to hope for an at-large when they should have qualified through an allocated placement. Guys like Teemer, Crookham, O'Toole etc. have no concern over meeting criteria to earn an allocation for their conference, because they are going to qualify regardless. If you're going to "punish" not meeting allocation criteria, it should effect the guilty wrestler, not the weight class at conferences.

The NCAA tournament...?
-
What is the rational for allocations being earned rather than granted via rankings? It seems like the match minimum barring highly ranked wrestlers from earning an allocation only punishes the fringe qualifiers. Am I missing something?
-
The only reason I know who Benny Baker is because of last years fiasco. Poor guy stays catching strays.
-
Sorry, I was referring to 3 B1G wrestlers ranked in the top 4 and all three being placed on the same half of the bracket at NCAAs. Typically if they are ranked that high and finish 1, 2, 3 at B10s then they'll get split up.
-
3 ranked in the top 4? I could be wrong, but I can't think of any instances.
-
C'mon Vak. You're never going to find someone else to take a pick'em bet between Askey and Teemer.

I think Ben would be essentially like a coach on retainer. He loves the freedom and development at AWA and I don't think he would consider moving on to UW full-time. He might come do some sessions or 1 on 1 work here and there, but I think Max is a better fit from what Ben has said to be a college coach. Max is married and has a young son. Ben has expressed that he doesn't want to deal with the bureaucracy of college athletics and feel like he will be reprimanded for speaking his mind. So yes, the "reporting to" is his biggest concern. Ben has made it pretty clear that he loves living in Wisconsin and would be unlikely to uproot to take over the Missouri program.

Is the two piece uniform experiment dead?
BruceyB replied to Dark Energy's topic in College Wrestling
I started wrestling at 12 and only had to wear a singlet in front of other wrestlers, parents, and coaches as a youth wrestler. As an 80 lb wrestler in 8th grade, it was a very different feeling walking out in front of a ton a classmates as a small prepubescent 14 year old. If I hadn't already considered wrestling to be my sport, I don't know that I would have wanted to come out my first year and risk not only wearing a singlet in front of classmates, but potentially getting beat 1 on 1 in front of everyone while doing so. But in high school, my mind changed and I thought of wearing the singlet as a right of passage to participate in what I thought to be the toughest sport in high school athletics. I'm sure swimmers and water polo players feel the same way about a speedo. I'm not here to argue that a two piece would change the participation numbers by a significant margin among middle school/junior high wrestlers, but it would in no way hurt the sport. I knew plenty of other athletes that contemplated trying wrestling for the first time (I come from a non-traditional wrestling area in the PNW) but they would either joke or say they wouldn't wear a singlet. I don't think it's fair to compare someone's ability to handle difficult things in life to a willingness to put your body on display in front of all your peers as a 12-15 year old. It's a vulnerable time and some students may shy away from the sport due to self-consciousness. I am pro-singlet for myself, but don't discount how that could be a barrier for some kids to come out and test the waters in a new sport. -
It is interesting stylistically how well Sparks matches up with Caliendo. In their four matches, Caliendo is 4-0 but they have been competitive. 7-5 (IIRC Sparks was winning late) 2-1 5-2 11-10

Max does seem like the perfect fit. If, which is a big if, the Wisconsin AD wants to see their program reach the highest level in program history, Max would be the best possible hire IMO. Wiscy native, huge name recognition through the success of himself, his brother, and AWA. All of these AWA guys would have to be recruited away from UW instead of now where no one wants to wrestle there. Through all of the Askren's connections, I'd imagine they know plenty of people that would donate money to bring the program into relevancy sooner rather than later. I would be surprised to see it happen, but it's possible that the challenge of bringing your home state program back from the dead is an enticing challenge.

Glad to hear he's back.

They also have Teemer wrestling, so flip 157 and 197 and it's still 15-15.
-
I also thought 29-6 with Kasak in. However, I don't see what it would hurt to give him the week off to let his head heal up whether for concussion concerns or the gash on his head. I want nothing to do with that line with the current mystery.

I think that is where the coaches ability to slightly shift a seed would probably come into play. I would be shocked if they allowed all of them to be on one side.
-
I hadn't thought about it, but I definitely think you're onto something. Lamer, Stiles, and Whalen each have 1 loss at the weight, and Paniro is undefeated. I wouldn't be surprised if it went something similar to: 1. Henson 2. B1G champ 3. Lamer/Stiles/Paniro/Whalen 4. B1G runner-up 5. Lamer/Stiles/Paniro/Whalen/McNeil 6. B1G 3rd

To be honest, it's actually genius for social media . Every time someone b*tches about his lack of full ROM , his account gets higher priority in the algorithm and he gains visibility and more ad money , helping the man with Italian genetics secure the bag. Correct. -
Yes. The future of 197 / 285 seems to be in place for OKST. I'm also curious how much development Doucet has experienced with a new staff and having Hendrickson as a training partner. He had a sneaky good season last year and could very well AA next year given guys graduating and his own improvement.

Can someone explain to me why SVN has been the benefactor of Parco's win over Lovett? In the last 3 weeks.. Week 1: #4 Lovett beats #2 SVN = #2 Lovett, #3 SVN, #4 Parco Week 2: #3 SVN beats #4 Parco = no change Week 3: #4 Parco beats #2 Lovett = #2 SVN, #3 Parco, #4 Lovett I don't understand why Parco cannot jump to #2 despite losing to #3 SVN, but SVN can move above Lovett based on Parco's win? If each has a loss and win over another, why wouldn't the wrestler that has the most recent win over the (at the time) #2 wrestler move to the top?
-
It's not comparing the old teams versus the new teams. The comparison is the old teams against their peers and the new teams against their peers and which was more dominant in their era. It's just for fun.

I regret to admit, but I dug in a bit on the comments and he's buying into some psuedo-physio guy that claims you should never break 90 for power lifts. So whether accurate or not, he is subscribing to someone's method of not going beyond 90 degrees.
