  1. They are the only ones in this situation. I don't understand how the parties involved didn't get a concrete determination on whether or not he could compete this season. I also find it hard to believe they would just have an athlete train all year knowing he wasn't eligible and hoping it would go unnoticed. Unless they were told by an incorrect NCAA compliance person that Tyler Brennan was granted a 5th active season, I don't understand how this situation happens. If they were not told he had eligibility, it's seems pretty cut and dry that he competed illegally and should not be allowed to wrestle. If they were incorrectly told that he could compete, then that's where I can see things getting held up, and why it's taking so long to get an answer. Obviously, this would never happen with a true AA contender, or an athlete on to trophy contending team, but I do think the matter should be handled the same as if it were. Letting him compete just because it likely won't effect team standings or the podium is not a good reason to let him compete.
  2. You lost me here. This is an ignorant point of view that ignores the effects of mind-altering substances and substance abuse. I also haven't seen the clip, I have been purely commenting on the person I have seen over the last 15 years. Feel free to message me a link to what happened. I can't even find anything on the internet.
  3. A natural rivalry? No.. they're a rivalry now because it's pupil vs teacher. The programs have no history, no shared conference, no geographical proximity.
  4. That's the 10 bonus points. 1st placement + advancement = 20 points. 1st with 5 pins = 20 + 10 (5x2 for bonus) that's 30 per wrestler. 60 total. In your previous post you accidentally multiplied the bonus twice to get to 40 total points instead of 20, and then 2 extra advancement points. Not trying to be the math guy here, I miscounted my own dual score prediction a little while back.
  5. I could be mistaken but I believe there is no advancement point for winning in the finals. I believe 30 is the maximum amount an individual can score at NCAAs You also included both wrestlers bonus before multiplying. 16 place + 4 adv + 10 bonus = 30 x 2 = 60 points.
  6. You get it now. You didn't get it until someone else pointed it out.
  7. His was take me down for a bitcoin. But same concept. Georgio's high school resume: Won the Ohio state title at 152 pounds as a junior... Won each of his final 43 matches to finish the 2015-16 season 45-2… Was a 2016 Ironman champion at 160 pounds… Advanced to Ohio state championship match at 160 pounds in 2017 before losing in overtime… Finished his senior season with a 43-1 mark… Went 5-1 with two wins via fall to place third at FloNationals at 160 pounds in 2017… Also finished third at NHSCA tournament at 170 pounds in 2017… Placed at the prestigious Super 32 Challenge in 2015 at 152 pounds… Was nationally ranked by Intermat during his senior season. Pretty notable high school accolades.
  8. I would genuinely be curious to see this study. They are going to be a very tough team next year with homegrown talent.

  10. I'm not even going to dignify this with looking up results to refute your point. Ohio State has done as well of a job developing their recruits as anyone outside of PSU in the last 15 years.
  11. FWIW I truly believe Tom Ryan is one of the most genuine and caring coaches in our sport. I've listened to enough interviews over the past 15 or so years to know that he has always been extremely consistent in the brand he preaches and his core values. He cares about his athletes, he cares about cultivating meaningful relationships with these athletes, and he cares as much about stewarding his wrestlers towards being good men after they are done wrestling as he does about the on the mat results. Maybe I am forgetting, but I can't think of any tOSU athletes being controversial on or off the mat (other than Tessari who then was removed from the program). I do think he can get animated and throw a fit, but I think that's just more of an embarrassing heat of the moment reaction than a depiction of who he is as a coach, mentor, and man. Obviously this is from the outside looking in, but I think if I were to pick a program purely for the environment that I think would most help my son develop as both a wrestler and a young man, Ohio State would be my first choice given their track record.
  12. I think in general, for bigger exposure events that are on regular TV, explaining more is better than assuming the fans know what is taking place. If you're tuning into a Flo stream, it's fairly obvious that most of the viewers are going to have a strong foundational understanding of the sport, otherwise they wouldn't be paying for an exclusively wrestling product. But when you are broadcasting to a broader audience, it's nice to have the broadcast explain rather than me having to explain everything to those around me know know less (usually my wife if she stays in the room while wrestling is on).
  13. I think we know who is not the youngest poster on this forum.
  14. Because haters want to watch Starocci wrestle the most difficult path. That is the only reason. Edit: I do wonder if Keck won the all-star would he have been the #1 seed? It may have actually been more advantageous for him to take a short in an unofficial match than to rely purely on his schedule to secure the #1 seed.
  15. I have finished filling out my brackets. I filled out both the front and backside and have given this board the absolute truest predictions for who will reach All-American status and how they will finish in this years tournament. As a disclaimer, I have been inspired by our friend @jajensen09 and my predictions may be regarded as fanciful, but I hold steadfast that these predictions are as realistic and accurate as anything you will see leading up to next Thursday (do not mind if I make it into the fantasy pool and my team looks drastically different than my predictions in this post). 125. 1. Spratley 2. Robinson 3. Figueroa 4. Peterson 5. Strickenberger 6. Lilledahl 7. Rivera 8. Ventresca 133. 1. Ayala 2. Romney 3. Bailey 4. Bouzakis 5. Byrd 6. Serrano 7. Shawver 8. McGonagle 141. 1. 16. I think the problem has more to do with the amount of holes in Iowa's line-up than their ethos. If you're PSU and your entire roster is absolutely loaded, there is little need to recruit outside help.. yet they win National title after national title and continue to recruit/bring in transfers over their current rostered athletes. I don't fault them for it at all, but to act like your son's commitment is going to be better honored at PSU vs Iowa is just inherently false. These coaches are going to put together the best teams they can. It's not about guaranteeing a roster spot for four years to a commit.
  17. I'm not sure if you've seen this match. But once you have, I don't think you can be anything but a VV fan. Starts at 23 minutes, but just watch the third if you don't want to sit through the whole thing. Vombaur might have the highest attack rate per match in the country.
  18. I might just ride with @jajensen09 for the next 11 days. So if anyone sees me gassing him up between now and then, just know I'm a fan of chaos. Les' ride.
  19. I am far from a PSU fan. Carry on. I'm looking forward to your predictions for the next week+.
  20. I'm firmly on the side of the two athletes that were allowed to wrestle, but it's been pretty well documented with what happened. I think it's pretty obvious why their isn't any photo/video evidence of what was taking place during weigh-ins. CP did say that during the decision making progress, they did actually use surveillance footage from the cameras in the weigh-in area. At the end of the day, the person with the final say was some higher-up in the B12 that has no direct connection to wrestling. Word is that a wrestler cut off the waist-band of their underwear in attempt to make their underwear lighter.
  21. Mesenbrink coming in over Facundo who was a top #3 recruit with 3 years of eligibility remaining. Dean coming in over Beard who was a returning AA with 3 years of eligibility remaining. Then recently their abundance of wrestlers who will be overlapping in eligibility and weights. @VakAttack you know I have my fair share of criticism towards Iowa, but I also find the hypocrisy of always casting Iowa as the villains amusing. Nearly every school is going to bring in a high level transfer if they have the means and a spot that is questionable in their line-up. Wrestlers, just like coaches, should be aware that in today's college landscape, no athlete is guaranteed to stay at your program for their entire career, and likewise the athletes should know that if they aren't getting the job done, these top programs will go out and find someone that will. The difference between PSU and everyone else is that they have turned high level recruits into national champions at a rate that hasn't been even remotely comparable by any other team in the past 15 years. What about Facundo's parents who watched PSU bring in a four-year-wonder from the portal that wipes out their son's ability to get in the line-up at his optimal weight for the rest of his career? The Mirasola's who may or may not make the starting line-up next year, especially if Ghadiali transfers in. Joe Sealey who committed and then Mesenbrink comes in, and PSU recruits PJ Duke?
  22. I mean, if you don't want to pay for live TV.. what are you complaining about? I can't watch my local MLB or NHL team without paying for access to the channels they play on either. So many people want to act like these businesses should just stream all of their wrestling content for free as some sort of charity to the sport, as those complaining hide behind the veil of "grow the sport." You know what helps grow a sport? Revenue. Paying and viewing the events that bring in money to those covering the sport through advertisements. Everyone wants to talk about growing the sport until they have to spend a few bucks to watch.
