In nearly ever match wrestled, regardless of style, both wrestlers go to the middle, and the ref raises the winning wrestler's hand. Again, I'm not going to make it into a bigger deal than it is, but I'm also not going to make an excuse for Barr running off the mat when he should have went to the middle and taken his loss.
-
A light handslap after the match isn't how wrestling works and Barr knows that.. especially in freestyle where you also shake the refs hand before and after. It's not that big of a deal, but it was poor sport behavior.

Like you said about Haines.. Hillger realistically is probably behind Steveson, Parris, Gwiz, and Kerkvliet on the US ladder if they were all active? Although, after match one, it's possible that Wyatt came out expecting a fairly easy win and had trouble adjusting when all of the sudden he was in a dog fight.

I don't know the backstory for this one, but have seen it mentioned several times now.

Nothing really. There was really one exchange on the edge where there was some whistle confusion. This match was pretty tame when it comes to Mesenbrink antics.

When David Carr was young, his grandmother sewed him a teddy bear. He has had the teddy in his wrestling bag for every event he has ever wrestled. Recently though, Metcalf brought his dog to practice, and the dog got a hold of the teddy bear and shredded it. Metcalf felt bad so he got the shoes custom made for David. Awesome to see that David won the tournament without his safety blanket in his bag. I like to think that when he pointed towards the sky after the match, he was pointing to that teddy bear.

He always looks tired, he just keeps going. He just couldn't get to his offense today. Carr wrestled a great match where he didn't let MM really get his handfight going. It was great wrestling by Carr. It'll be fun to watch these two guys battle for years to come.
-
I'm curious what was going on with Mesenbrink. He barely took any shots in that match and looked spent at the end of the match. I've never seen Mesenbrink so inactive. Carr looked really good though, very clean shots and finishes.

Yianni showing there are levels to this. I did not expect that kind of domination.

They typically do.

125: Poulin dec. Peterson (3-0 ISU) 133: Ayala dec. Frost (3-3) 141: Frost dec. Bailey (6-3 ISU) 149: Echemendia dec. Either (9-3 ISU) 157: Johnson dec. Whoever (12-3 ISU) 165: Caliendo tech Riggins (12-8 ISU) 174: Kennedy/Arnold maj. Gaitan (12-12) 184: Ferrari dec. Dean (15-12 Hawks) 197: Elam dec. Endine (15-15) 285: Bastida dec. Kueter (18-15 ISU) 125, 133, 141, 149, 157, and HWT seem like highly competitive match-ups. 6 match-ups without heavy favorites in such a competitive dual is a lot of fun. This should be an awesome dual if both teams are healthy.

You and me both, brother. I also wouldn't be surprised if she's cleaned her social media up a bit by now to give those against her less ammo.

I don't know if you needed to put it that way.

He went to the PSU board because the PSU fans were attacking her after she irresponsibly posted that she was happy to see Starocci lose. I would have been very upset if my wife made her personal feelings about a teammate of mine public. Her going public forced his hand, either he defends his wife and requests people stop attacking her when they don't understand the background of the situation, or he stays quiet and she continues to get attacked online. She made a huge error in judgement (although maybe not seeing as she clearly aspires to be an "influencer" and now she's getting attention), and he could have not said as much as he did to escalate the situation further. Unfortunately, curiosity got the better of me and I looked at some of "SydErin's" social media posts.. I'm not going to say anything other than it didn't make me think that the severity of Starocci's alleged "transgressions" were anything more than hurting some feelings. He did her friend dirty, slid into different girls DMs, who knows. Wake me up when someone actually has something of significance to say.

Only 3 wrestlers have won more than a single title at 149 this millennium. Metcalf did it 2 times in his three years of eligibility. Retherford did it 3 times, and Yianni did it twice. Don't forget this little nugget about the 2008 weight class that Brent won..

Call me crazy, but if I were Beau I'd be losing my mind right now. Public online disputes benefit nobody but the audience. Beau is now in the middle of a situation he'd probably prefer to have avoided. The whole thing is embarrassing for all parties involved at this point.

My point is that he did not turn everyone he wrestled, and there is a legitimate chance he doesn't turn Spencer Lee. I think people remember his dominance as greater than it was. He had an amazing and statistically dominant season, but people talk like he got on top of McDonough and he turned him into oblivion. He got a takedown and two turns in the first period and then hung onto wrists and stalled the rest of the match. He was taken down in the Patterson match and stalled a good chunk of that match as well. Robles will always be a legend for what he accomplished, but I think time has made him into a more unbeatable wrestler than he actually was. Edit: Also, don't forget that McDonough was a 1x champ at the time who on his route to winning in 2010 only faced 1 seeded wrestler (#5 Andrew Long in the finals).

I think it's more about the fan support and excitement around DT and the OKST program than the payday. And I'm sure after talking with David about his experience so far, it only furthered JB's interest. He mentioned how much he's enjoyed working with some active guys during his year off, and how it's shown him how much he really does enjoy coaching.

Everyone on team Abas is bringing up Lee's loss to Ramos is using one of the biggest upsets in NCAA wrestling history to explain why Lee wasn't better than Abas. The reason that this was one of the biggest upsets is because everybody believed that Lee was untouchable at this weight. Does losing one match change how great of a wrestle he is? No. That's why after healing up for a year, he went on to make the Olympic Finals. Likewise, anyone knocking Abas for not winning as a freshman is ignoring the fact that winning as a freshman in that era was exponentially rarer than it is in today's NCAAs. There isn't a right or wrong answer here, and you can justify it either way. But people are really digging through the weeds to find reasons to deny how great either of these wrestlers are.

I remember the incorrect hand raise. I thought it was just an mix-up. I never knew that the scoreboard was responsible for the mix-up. That makes sense.

Bartlett and not understanding the match situation is a theme in freestyle?

He couldn't turn Patterson or Kjar despite earning riding time in both matches, but he turns Spencer Lee. Got it.
