In high school wrestling (depending on the state), you can get pretty far with good physical conditioning and basic technique.
Not so much in college (even D2 or D3), where pretty much everyone has good physical conditioning.
I don’t know much about the other martial arts and I haven’t been in a real fight since I was probably 10, so I’m definitely no expert on which is the best, but I’d say wrestling definitely gives you an advantage in a fight over having no martial arts experience, but something where you learn submissions might be a little better. Or of course boxing.
