  1. Yeah. And I get your point about the small schools too, and showing them how wrestling can be a positive for enrollment and/or revenue (especially now when combined with a women’s team) and hopefully leading to more D1 teams. I guess my main point was IMO I think it’s going to be easier for Power 5 schools to get competitive wrestling teams just from the resources from being at that school, even if they’re towards the bottom of the totem pole in terms of importance to the school.
  2. That’s the wrestlestat number isn’t it though, so I think counts non-D1? Looks like Millner also has 118 on wrestlestat not counting his redshirt
  3. Who has the most of active wrestlers?
  4. Socon looking up it seems. 125, 133 (3), 141, 165, and 184 (3) all with multiple guys in the coaches rank. But I saw they only had 12 pre-allocations with 133 and 174 being the only weights with more than 1.

  6. Agree, but that’s not really mutually exclusive from “Football, Basketball and Baseball are undoubtedly 1-2-3.” Teams like NC State and VT are good examples of southern schools that have built a pretty good following for wrestling despite not being very good historically and probably still not being in the top 3 sports in importance at the school.
  7. Seth Gross
  8. Similar energy
  9. Was actually a pretty good segment I thought. With it being him and Clark I’m guessing the implication is maybe just U of Iowa GOAT?
  10. I mean isn't this the case even at Penn State and pretty much all of the "Power 5" schools?
  11. What about winning Olympic gold while in college?
  12. I don’t think the OP was suggesting that, although as I called out the data does likely help those guys that couldn’t wrestle as freshmen because they didn’t have the opportunity to lose. I think it’s more just saying that it’s possible that one of those guys could be the GOAT (Uetake being the main one that seems to be in the conversation), not to claim that going 3 for 3 is just as good as going 4 for 4.
  13. Looks like Northwestern should’ve went to the last chance open?
  14. Burwikk transfers back to Wisconsin
  15. Correct. Dake’s big achievement was winning at 4 different weights. If he lost to Taylor then that goes away, plus he had other losses so yes, he wouldn’t be in the convo. Although some would argue he’s not in the convo to begin with, the only guys that should be in the convo are ones that were undefeated… He said most… If he doesn’t lose the rest of the way, yes IMO. If he does then I think you could stil argue undefeated guys over him.
  16. IMO, yes. I think by definition someone that lost at the NCAA tournament can not be the GOAT. Can they maybe be ahead of a few guys on this list, I guess so
  17. I think drawing the line at never having lost at the NCAA tournament makes sense. WKN, yeah I guess that would also include guys who missed seasons due to injury/suspension
  18. hmm, are there any states that actually do a true second?
  19. No clue why, but I was curious whatever happened to that kid from Wisconsin that got a flagrant misconduct overturned by a judge. Apparently, he wrestles at Illinois now. https://fightingillini.com/sports/wrestling/roster/hayden-halter/13169 4 time state finalist (2x champion, 1 at Burlington and 1 at Waterford, 1x second, and 1x third).
  20. While I agree the 3 for 3’ers should be included in the discussion, don’t they have a slight advantage in this data because freshmen tend to have more losses/less bonus?
  21. Just realized wrestlestat has tournament projections, including bonus. Here's PSU: https://www.wrestlestat.com/rankings/tournament/breakdown/60/penn-state Weight Wrestler Rank/Place Plc + Adv Points Bonus Points Total 125 Steen, Gary 52 (NA) 0 0 0 133 Bravo-Young, Roman 2 16 3.24 19.240000000000002 141 Bartlett, Beau 5 10 1.69 11.69 149 Van Ness, Shayne 10 (R12) 2 1.5 3.5 157 Haines, Levi 8 5.5 1.25 6.75 165 Facundo, Alex 12 (R12) 2 0 2 174 Starocci, Carter 1 20 3 23 184 Brooks, Aaron 1 20 3.75 23.75 197 Dean, Max 1 20 3.3 23.3 285 Kerkvliet, Greg 2 16 2.49 18.490000000000002 Totals 111.5 20.2 131.7 So they have them at 132, with 3 champs, and RBY losing to Fix of course and Kerk 2nd also. Bartlett 5th, Haines 8th, Van Ness and Facundo R12. This is probably pretty close to the worst case scenario (point-wise at least, Van Ness and Facundo could probably do worse but this only has them at 5.5 pts between the two of them to start with) If I had to bet on them topping their prior record of 146.5 I think they do it.
  22. I don’t really like penalizing the wrestler that much for a coach’s decision. Maybe a stall warning at worst
  23. More action for sure. Too many guys wait to do anything until there’s 20-30 seconds left in the period
  24. Wow has any other team ever had 2 champs that were seeded 5th or lower?
  25. so they don't need to rest their starters, except Brooks who would have wrestled their only ranked wrestler
