  1. More Jimmy with his weird obsession of trying to get people to feel bad for Penn State. The main Iowa guys I was impressed with were Murin and Kennedy, but it’s not like they pulled off big upsets or anything.
  2. I don’t think the dual was boring overall though. A couple of the matches were, but it’s rare to have all 10 matches be exciting. 149-165 were all pretty good IMO despite the low scores. IIRC, I was particularly shocked Murin took a shot at the end despite already having the lead. I like DT’s suggestion, but I’d still like to see 3 point takedowns. IMO, guys are too worried about giving up an escape after getting a takedown that a lot of times they wait until the end of the period to initiate much action. I think a 3 point takedown would help change that.
  3. I don’t see how this is remotely feasible, unless you’re talking about switching college only. Which would likely reduce interest at the younger levels. But if we want to do it right you’d have to change all levels to freestyle and I can’t imagine that happening. You think many youth/middle school coaches are bad now, try to make them teach freestyle…
  4. Is there a link to the interview? I don’t recall the exact words, I know he talked about cutting weight, but I don’t recall him saying that was why he stopped wrestling. I thought he said “he knew his passion was football” or something
  5. Well to be fair, some of those people who just started following Penn State wrestling in 2011 probably don’t know who Spencer Lee is (only somewhat joking)
  6. No clue. Wait did he enter the Soldier Salute and MFF out without wrestling a match?
  7. Ybarra has 2, including 1 over a top recruit. Not sure if he has made 125 this year though?
  8. They’re not huge underdogs. Probably a tossup or slight lean to Steen
  9. I'm well aware of how Lee has been wrestling recently but it was only a month ago when he couldn't pin Charlie Farmer. And the last time he wrestled in the Iowa-PSU dual in 2020 he only managed a tech of Brandon Meredith (interestingly in that same season he also pinned Liam Cronin in under a minute).
  10. I feel like everyone is just assuming Spencer pins Steen, but I wouldn't be completely shocked if he didn't
  11. I don't really have an issue with a 1-year holdback, 2 seems a bit much especially if you apparently don't even go to school. I thought most holdbacks still go to school at least. But clearly it worked out for him. TBH I think it also takes away some of the claims that I've heard of RBY being "raw" prior to getting to PSU. Not many guys have the opportunity to spend a year training full-time before even going to high school.
  12. I mean he did literally say he didn't go to school at all and just wrestled
  13. I know would still never happen, but Askren's idea of doing it as an extra match would be pretty cool... Side note, but I didn't realize RBY was held back twice in 8th grade (for athletic reasons)? He says that at 5:25 in this video (cool video though): It does look like he's only about 9.5 months younger than Fix, with Fix having been in college for an extra year.
  14. I did. Definitely surprised no one on HR did though. WKN’s thing says 7% of the picks here did
  15. Are they actually or are they assuming it’s Bearclaw?
  16. Cael cares much more about March than duals and my guess is (I got a plan or something) all else equal he would rather preserve the redshirt. But if it’s true that Haines might not be able to hold 157 for a long then that may change things.
  17. 125 Lee fall 6-0 Iowa 133 RBY dec 6-3 141 Woods dec 9-3 149 SVN dec 9-6 157 Siebrecht dec over Bearclaw (or Haines over Siebrecht but I don’t think he goes) 12-6 165 Facundo dec 12-9 174 Starocci dec 12-12 184 Brooks dec 15-12 PSU 197 Warner dec 15-15 285 Kerk dec 18-15 (21-12 if Haines wrestles)
  18. Isn’t Sealey only a junior?
  19. 18 match points? Still photos can’t tell you if someone was pinned or not (or getting nearfall for that matter)
  20. 4. Haines has a loss this year, so Cael’s 159-0 remains unbroken
  21. Got ya. I thought you were saying if Haines goes it’s not a tossup but if Bearclaw goes then it is.
  22. If you're assuming Bearclaw at 157, I think Siebrecht is the favorite (but wouldn't be shocked to see Bearclaw beat him).
  23. Yup, good point
  24. Who are you referring to?
  25. At first I thought they said the wrong guy’s name or something. But even after seeing the score for several more minutes they didn’t realize until the match ended. The only reasonable thing I can think of is maybe they thought he was awarded a reversal first? But I think it was 1-0 DeAugustino and they thought it went to 5-1 Renteria, so unless they still think there’s a 3 point nearfall their math would still be off.
