  1. I was saying the reports I saw were that Davis didn’t want to redshirt even if Nagao was healthy.
  2. So how much do we think he’s getting paid vs the incremental ticket revenue he’s bringing in? They have 5 home matches, looks like tickets are $17.50, he’d need to be responsible for them selling 2,300 extra tickets per match to make $200K in revenue. And one of those is against Iowa which they might have sold out from visiting Iowa fans even without Gable.
  3. Correct, but I know sometimes they’ll homeschool or transfer to a school close to their college and then not wrestle
  4. Nagao won’t be scoring any points this year
  5. It’s November 2024, do we have 2023 numbers yet? This honestly doesn’t seem too bad. It shot up during the once in a century pandemic (which was of course during the term of the guy starting DOGE) and then came back down. If 2023 declined again then the trend would seem pretty consistent. I assume this is not inflation-adjusted?
  6. If we count Kerkvliet, could also add Ohio State with him and Echemendia
  7. I was focusing on potential point scorers, I guess you could add Hill and Riggins for Iowa but doubt they score much if any and TBH I’d be surprised if Riggins finishes the year as the starter. Anybody else I’m missing? Who’s missing from NC State? You could maybe include Alvarez (then for Oklahoma State as well) but don’t think he actually attended a class at NC State. But if so then he could be added to the list for my other thread of guys on their 4th school.
  8. We often talk about what schools get the most points from transfers, but what school will have former wrestlers score the most points at NCAA’s? Here are some options IMO. Probably forgetting guys, but thinking have to lean towards ASU right now: Arizona State: Parco Teemer Munoz Penn State: Barraclaugh Beard Nevills Minnesota: Ramos Spratley Oklahoma State: Williams Carroll Ferrari NC State: Poulin Noto Trephan App State: Smith Askey Oakley Oklahoma: Henson Nijenhuis Buchanan Heindselman Cal Baptist: Mesenbrink NDSU: Caliendo Sax Iowa: Henson Siebrecht Glazier Lehigh: Ruth McGonagle Air Force: Hendrickson Columbia: Babin Rini Ogunsanya Wolak Wisconsin: Hamiti Burwikkk
  9. If Davis didn’t want to redshirt this year why would he want to redshirt next year? It’s possible Nagao doesn’t see the lineup again, in which case God may have given him bad advice. No, but speaking of Nagao, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sealey take a “medical redshirt” next year like Nagao is doing this year.
  10. Anecdotally, I feel like the skipping my senior year of HS thing seems to be working OK for guys. I can’t think of many cases where guys who did that ended up burnt out. Although there have been some that couldn’t really crack Penn State’s lineup IIRC, did both Joe and Matt Lee do it?
  11. I agree that the 2020 guys should’ve gotten another year, but I’m OK that the 2021 guys did too. The reason was because there was still a pandemic going on so they were afraid they were going to cancel 2021 NCAA’s as well. Without the free year you probably would’ve seen a ton of guys redshirt/grayshirt.
  12. There will still be a few next season if they were true freshmen during the free year but then took a regular redshirt later. And still a couple the year after if they took a regular redshirt + an Olympic or medical.
  13. As for the rankings, haven’t looked too closely at most of these. But starting with some of the higher ones… I don’t see how Ed Scott can still be in the top 10 after losing twice to guys in the 20ish or worse range. I lean towards Flo here. I also don’t see how you can put Renteria into the top 10 basically off of 1 win last season. I lean towards Intermat here. Relating to our other discussion, IMO it is somewhat inconsistent for Intermat to put Ferrari #1, but Sasso #11 with both coming back from serious injuries. I actually think Flo is being consistent here by putting both Sasso and Ferrari high, but not as high as they could be based solely on prior results.
  14. For the starters. ISU 165: Euton wrestled both duals, Gaitan wrestled in the Grand View Open. Gotta say it’s Euton right now. I think Flo is correct LR 165: They haven’t wrestled a D1 dual yet. I’d gotta say it’s Bianchi, it doesn’t look like Abdon has ever beaten someone in wrestlestat’s top 60, so even if he was the starter I’m not sure how he gets ranked 22 unless they are just giving him credit for Bianchi’s wins. I think Intermat is correct. PSU 197: Cochran wrestled their only dual, gotta say it’s him right now. I think Flo is correct Rutgers 149: Cetta wrestled against LIU and F&M, Clark wrestled against NC State and Duke. Gotta say it’s Clark. I think Flo is correct. Stanford 157: Yeah I thought Cardenas was redshirting. I think Intermat is correct. Virginia 133: Porter has wrestled both duals, I think Intermat is correct. Although Yarbrough has not wrestled at all, so unless he’s injured I’m not sure he should be in there all (which looks to be wrestlestat’s current opinion). So IMO I’ve got 3 for Flo and 3 for Intermat
  15. Earlier you said this, which didn’t seem limited to NCAA. Yes I know some of those guys may not necessarily have a wrestling “base,” but I’m sure their experience helped them. Doesn’t everyone from Dagestan wrestle?
  16. Well $500k was pretty much confirmed for Buchanan and Teemer, two guys with 1 year left that haven’t won a title, and Starocci claims to be making “a lot” more, so $2 million offered to Blaze wouldn’t shock me
  17. Makhachev, Dvalishvili, Topuria, Muhammed, Du Plessis, and Jones all have wrestling experience according to Wikipedia. 6 of 8 men’s champs seems like a pretty good ratio
  18. He didn’t say the number came from TR, just that he scolded him for posting about it
  19. How many Americans?
  20. I do, but I feel like on average he generally ends up being somewhere around 70% accurate
  21. Ah, didn’t see that one. I saw he recently commented about Tom Ryan saying something to him about his comments about what tOSU supposedly offered Marcus Blaze. Didn’t see the post but I heard someone say the claim was $2.4 million?
  22. I think it comes down to losses for the Steveson/Ferrari comparison. Steveson hasn’t lost since 2019 and was undefeated in his 2 title years, compared to Ferrari taking a loss the year he won. But overall I would say we shouldn’t be looking at results prior to like 2023 at the latest, but Steveson and Ferrari are certainly unique cases…
  23. whoops, Freudian slip
  24. I don’t think they’re looking at 2022, or even 2023 for Mendez. They’re comparing 2024 Mendez vs 2023 Alirez
  25. Can we make this the predictions thread? 125: Iowa dec 3-0 Iowa 133: Frost Dec Ayala 3-3 141: Redding Dec Block 6-3 ISU 149: Parco Dec Echemendia 6-6 157: Johnson Dec Teemer 9-6 ISU 165: Caliendo maj 10-9 Iowa 174: Brands Dec 13-9 184: Arnold Dec Bockman 16-9 197: Buchanan dec Carroll 19-9 285: Bastida Dec Kerk 19-12 There are several interesting matches but even giving them a few upsets/tossups I’m not really seeing a path for ISU here.
