  1. holy smokes you're right lol. that is odd
  2. Maybe a similar question is how few guys will it take for PSU to win? Not sure if 3 can, but 4 probably could right?
  3. Yes I get that, just pointing out that Jimmy was complaining about people complaining about the transfer portal. But yes, while technically transfers, guys transferring from other divisions is very different than the portal, as there is not typically multiple schools trying to get them.
  4. Swafford did not come from the portal though as he came from NAIA. I guess D2/D3 guys would?
  5. High probability one of Haines/Mesenbrink/Facundo redshirts. But I think only Cael knows which one.
  6. I could’ve sworn there was someone that took an ORS in 2020 but was still enrolled. Maybe it wasn’t in the Ivy League though
  7. Well the OP specifically mentions the “transfer portal,” and all of the guys he listed are products of that except for Swafford. It’s silly to count guys from other divisions as transfers. But Jimmy knows this, it’s his typical sprinkling in an obvious troll into a valid comment
  8. Setting the stage for calling if Haines wins 157 then it’s a major upset I see
  9. If you change “medal” to “gold,” I believe the number that don’t “hit” is pretty small.
  10. And if we’re not counting Mesenbrink for 165, another option could be Hunter Garvin of Stanford. Started off slow but had a couple decent wins toward the end of the season. He did get majored by Cam Steed of Mizzou, who appears to be their starter at 157 and had a good redshirt year of his own, although Shapiro is definitely the safe bet for 157.
  11. Another Gioffre (Jack) could be an option for 141. He only wrestled 6 matches last year, but 4 were against national qualifiers and he went 2-2 (beat Dylan Chappell and Kal Miller, lost to Carter Young and Dylan Droegenmueller).
  12. Yeah, Howard has wrestled in an NCAA tournament. If one wants to call someone with 4 years of eligibility a redshirt freshman that’s fine I guess, but clearly the OP is referring to freshmen/redshirt freshmen that have not wrestled in an NCAA tournament. I think I’d go with Spratley for 125.
  13. Lol I saw the “stricken” thing, apparently it just means delayed.
  14. Do you still think the gambling suspensions are a nothingburger?
  15. I believe he has a win over Stevo Poulin if I’m not mistaken
  16. Were there any other teams that used West Gym?
  17. PSU (football?) blogger suggesting Kerk to 97kg? https://www.blackshoediaries.com/2023/9/22/23884972/penn-state-sports-mailbag-football-wrestling-iowa-world-champions-gambling-tailgate-breakfast
  18. As mentioned, the girlfriend may not get in trouble in that scenario, but the player could if they shared any information that wasn’t public. Athletes are more likely going to be around other athletes, and have access to facilities that non-athletes don’t. I’m sure the NCAA would like to prohibit athletes’ friends from betting as well, but they have no jurisdiction over non-athletes.
  19. While I agree there is really no reason to restrict college athletes from betting on professional sports, again the biggest issue seems to be betting on Iowa sports. I assume that’s the reason some guys did NOT have a full season of eligibility taken from them. Has anyone lost more than a season? That could be a bit harsh depending on the allegations. Sure, the NCAA likes the money from the gambling companies. But they don’t want to risk their sports being compromised, so they restrict their athletes from betting on them, and it makes sense to prohibit the entire athletic department considering the likelihood of knowing other athletes. The NFL does similar with rules against players sharing non-public information, as well as things like rules against office staff members betting even though they don’t have any impact on the outcome of the game.
  20. I have no clue about his girlfriend. I mostly just thought it was odd his twitter bio simply said “Northwestern Alumni” or something. And he has tweeted/x’ed (is that what it’s called?) recently.
  21. Playing fantasy football or entering a super bowl squares pool would be parallel to a moving violation. Heck maybe even betting on the NFL. Not placing bets on your own university.
  22. I thought the ORS “stopped the clock.” But yeah, I doubt Vito takes one this season.
  23. Normally Vak is pretty unbiased…but the black and gold glasses definitely showing a bit here
