I like session 1… all my guys are still on the championship side.

Because he still has issues and concerns about how rules are enforced, followed or changed Doug Schwab @schwabwrestling Mar 13 I have had a lot of questions surrounding the first day weigh ins at the Big 12 tournament. I certainly have many thoughts, concerns and ideas moving forward for how the rules can be better enforced, followed or changed. As of right now my focus, time and energy stays solely on my team and the 35 men getting ready for the NCAAs next week. I am looking forward to hearing a statement from the Big 12 to provide some clarity and understanding, as we all deserve transparency. I look forward to being part of the solution to continue to move our great sport forward.

I have followed this pretty close.... from what I have read... Brennan believed he had a medical redshirt coming in 2021...however the NCAA did not give out redshirts that year because is was a free year. That's why Starocci and others are getting 5 post seasons. If Brennan had wrestled 2021 his 5th post season would have been last year. The NCAA either grants the redshirt or it does not. Humphries was declined for the exact same reason - no med shirts in 2021 since it was a free year. A wrestling stat service (nameless) reached out to LR this season about Brennan being ineligible. Somehow he wrestled all season, without confirmation from the NCAA that he was eligible. If he had been eligible by the NCAA this would not be an issue right now and they not have had to apply for a waiver. LR fans have said that Brennan was deemed eligible twice over the season - was that by the NCAA or by LR? The NCAA only grants the shirt once - why do you have to keep checking? WHat I believe has happened (which could come out as wrong later) - is that the LR compliance department deemed him eligible, but the NCAA did not. How the LR coaches and compliance department could assume and carry on business as usual without confirmation of med shirt year from the NCAA is baffling. If the NCAA did grant it, it would be against their own policy (Humphries) and we would not be in this situation of having to review it and submit a waiver. If LR said they did receive that confirmation, then how did they get it and Humphries did not and why are they still having to submit a waiver. To me all signs point toward a LR compliance misunderstanding and mishandling of the situation. But like I said, I could be wrong, but nothing adds up. If he is deemed eligible, we may see a lawsuit from guys like Humphrey and probably others who used a med shirt during the free year. Another year for those guys is another year of NIL earnings and possibly finishing a masters program. IF he is deemed ineligible, then obviously this is a huge mark on the LR compliance and a very unfortunate situation for the program, Brennan and his family. This would also make him ineligible the whole year...now it's another can of worms with LR defeating Oregon State by 4 points for the team title at the Pac12. Also, the only way to go here would be to give the 2nd place pac 12 wrestler the allocation since the Pac12 is guaranteed and allocation. If they give it to the alternate, then you have taken the allocation from the Pac12. Obviously the longer this goes the more likely they don't do anything.

The longer the Brennan situation goes without comment, the more it seems the NCAA will leave as is. Does Humphries now sue for loss earnings if he had gotten another year under the same exact scenario?
-
Schwab commented on it and will comment more after the NCAA's. But what does he know, he's just a coach in the B12. I expect there to be discussions about it and what took place at the conference and NCAA level.

Vegas has the probability of Kasak winning at 55% (-120) and Blaze at 7% (+1300) at winning the weight.

That's good.... I wouldn't mind seeing him back in Minny... I think he is actually a two year guy, maybe three if he doesn't say anything and makes it all the way to the NCAA without anyone noticing. I am wondering if he is able to stay at 133 as well. His first half season at Minny he was 141 then went down...it will be 5 years later, so I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up at 141. I think it's a real possibility he ends up out West somewhere.
-
I think he graduated or he graduates this year as well.. After being a NQ 3x then not making the tourney, that's a pretty good sign that you need a change of scenery. I am guessing there are multiple factors. Hopefully he is on the right track.

It would be a good fit if Wells redshirted. Did he leave on good terms? I can alsosee him landing out west somewhere to be able to compete his last year closer to home.

That's Dick Beyer who actually did wrestle at Syracuse....and later coached high school wrestling in Ohio. Don't ask me how I know this.

He wrestled 4 years straight w/o a redshirt, with one of them being the free year in 2021 - so 3 years of eligibility. He had a redshirt and an Olympic redshirt available to him. He came back after those two years for his 4th year of eligibility and a total of 5 with the free year in 2021. Hamiti's first year was 2022 after the free year...he never redshirted... he's wrestled 4 years. Brennan took a medical shirt ( or so he thought) in 2021, the year it was a free year to wrestle. That's the difference for Brennan.

Nope, they were too busy with the gambling scandal?

I don't think that a wrestling correspondent that talked directly to 5 coaches who saw directly what happened, then reported what he was told from those coaches is the same as "somebody saying they heard someone say something. at t" But like I said, you can believe those 5 coaches and Dresser are lying and there was no controversy. At the end of the day they wrestled and you got what you wanted for your boys. Right?
-
I would consider a wrestling correspondent that actually talked directly to 5 coaches who were there at weigh ins and Dresser who coaches there to carry more weight than "hearsay" You can believe that everyone is lying if you would like.
-
I guess if you don't consider talking to 5 coaches who were in the weigh in room as a good source.
