As a side note, KOT is doing camps with Missouri wrestling this summer as he recovers. Missouri comes to Idaho every summer to do a camp. They do an excellent job with their camps.

Ahhh...got it. Thanks for that clarification. I always need a clarification to the clarification when rule changes come out.

HS rule changes are out. I have a question from one of the rule changes: "Although the leg block/cut-back maneuver already was an illegal move, the committee added “when leaving the feet and using the foot or leg to ‘cut out’ an opponent’s leg, to include from the rear-standing position.” Does this include lifting an opponent when you are behind them for a mat return, and using your own foot to sweep the leg in order to return them to the mat? Full rule change: https://www.nfhs.org/articles/key-change-in-high-school-wrestling-rules-focuses-on-reducing-injury-risk/?fbclid=IwY2xjawKFrCZleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETEwWElZbTlLdURMMEZ4NWFFAR52q3TPoN6AmIQlgu78Yf_sUVcgrLdpCIDszcWgNdENMD6gCw3seBu54dLiHw_aem_szFhnEWk0TQIT6bDRxcmzw

Breaking your own 9-year record at the ripe old swimming age of 28 is pretty remarkable.

Should I turn on the captions for this video to be a must read?

My guess "going to be called for stalling" is when the count starts. However, I believe there are situations where there is no count when the ref is considering top man for stalling. How will that work??? I agree...better have some smart and wrestling knowledgable people at the tables to stop that riding time. I see matches being stopped a lot to get the riding time right.
-
Agree...dumb penalty. I am not sure what is meant by that recommendation when it's already a rule???? Forgot to add another recommendation: "Allowing the offensive wrestler to leave both feet and use one or both legs to return their opponent to the mat when the defensive wrestler is standing (broomstick position). The double knee kickback, however, still would be illegal. "

Hips-olito would be a great pickup for Maryland... why have DNC, when he was already contacted and will be contacted now that he is in the portal...oh yeah, that's only for coaches sometimes.

Rules committee meets this week. In addition to review changes... Mandatory mouth piece. Eliminating the interlocking fingers penalty because it is virtually impossible for referees to determine who created the violation. Making the wearing of ear protection optional for wrestlers. No longer requiring the referee to say "set" from all three starting positions. Stopping the riding time when the offensive wrestler is going to be called for stalling. Establishing a protocol for schools to request a review of flagrant misconduct penalties. The school would have up to 48 hours to make the request to its conference. After reviewing the video, the conference could send it to be reviewed by a panel that would include the NCAA men's wrestling secretary-rules editor, the NCAA national coordinator of men's wrestling officials and an independent third party. Penalizing wrestlers for unsportsmanlike conduct for throwing, tossing, spiking or sliding any piece of equipment before, during or after the match. https://www.ncaa.org/news/2025/5/1/media-center-matside-video-review-changes-proposed-in-mens-wrestling.aspx

I think because they are a walk on they can’t get a scholarship but the easy fix is extra NIL to cover the scholarship amount

I believe tomorrow May 2 is the last day to enter the portal. If I remember correctly, the loophole is that you can transfer schools and "walk on" without entering the portal. I am not sure if they close that loophole.

Yep...50% of my team were poor...45% were middle class and about 5% were upper middle. Very few "rich kids." Cheap sport, toughened you up and everyone could participate and earn their spot. I was in the poor group. Grew up on food stamps even with my dad working and doing side jobs. Hunted down cans and bottles for my spending money. Bought used shoes and used my brothers hand me downs. All sports have changed a lot.

Dang I keep thinking he is going 133! Good catch.

Little Rock pulled in Draegen Orine at 133 already... he redshirted last year, so unless he's not ready he probably is penciled in.

Is Dake’s head coaching announcement eminent?
Idaho replied to headshuck's topic in College Wrestling
Has anyone had enough experience observing Dake in coaching situations or even in training situations that would lead one to believe that he would be good head coaching material? I have no opinion either way, but in talking with a few who have worked with him, he has not left a good impression. -
Yep.. real fast. Also common are two takedowns and a few guts.
-
Someone had to do it....
-
Not an answer in full, but part of the difference is the scrambling and the defense of not giving up a takedown - they were not scrambling like they do now when they were a sophomores in HS.

It's funny how when you read online, people are very defensive when you question these young guys getting held back in HS to get another year before college. In most cases they are going to be 19 their senior year, wrestling 14 year old freshman in some cases, because they are "both in high school." Then when they wrestle someone a year older in college, they lost because they are "still in high school," despite being in the same age group.

Agree... Kish needs a little more time before decisions are made about his job. The goals for some teams are to stay in that top 10-15 realm with consistent AA's... which is not the same as other teams. One team's success is not the same as others. Being an OSUw fan, I was a little disappointed in how Cleveland Belton performed this year. I would have thought that he would have been pushing AA down a weight based on his previous performances, but he never hit his stride. Perhaps dropping a weight was not the best idea.

If you are a fan of mid/low level programs, consider giving to your school's wrestling giving day. Most schools in this category are the teams that lose wrestlers due to not having the funds and donors to match NLI from bigger schools. Some teams also rely on giving day to help supplement their budget for the next seasn. This week, Oregon State has their yearly DAM PROUD DAY on April 30th. There are several matching gifts for the number of donors as well as the amount raised. There is an anonymous matching donor that is for a significant amount of money. Only gifts on April 30th count toward matching. Please consider giving to Oregon State Wrestling and other programs that need more public support to stay relevant and keep their doors open. When you already have an AA, two R12 and an R16 in the lineup, I would say the odds of having an R12 guy next year are pretty good. I would be more "stunned" if they didn't have an R12 guy than if they did.

Is there a future for Connor Mirasola at PSU?
Idaho replied to Fletcher's topic in College Wrestling
No kidding.... Bear Claw was a graduate transfer....those guys all stayed several years when they could have transferred much earlier and started somewhere else.
