If NIL deals are anything like the portal, I am sure there are ways around it.

For a guy who has never been an AA.... we don't even raise that amount on our biggest fundraiser of the year....must be nice to do this every year for your low tier guys.

Are there teams that are fully ‘loyal’ to their wrestlers
Idaho replied to Dark Energy's topic in College Wrestling
I don't think this is a simple answer. First, a majority of wrestlers are sought by the 3rd party of the school, not the wrestler seeking out the school. Notice I said majority, not all. What level of schools are we talking about? This varies depending on the school. If you have a lot of NIL money, the loyalty factor goes down because If you need an upgrade at a weight, you just go out and pay for the guy. If you don't have money to do that, the program has greater loyalty because they need to focus more on development and use that as a means to keep them. I think you see mid-low tier teams stick with their guys more to develop them because they have to. -
Sure, but the bottom 14% are not going to have their preference to stay. Maybe time for those 4th-5th string guys to realize they need to make a decision to not wrestle anymore or move down a level. Reality. And I wouldn't exactly call Grandview, Augsburg or any other of those quality lower level schools dumps.
-
The 14% that will be cut from rosters had a 1% chance of starting and can easily move to D2 or NAIA. They will get a chance to continue to wrestle and have a better shot at starting and being an AA at a lower level. They have already had the chance to be part of a D1 program and get better in a D1 room. They will be fine. The downward ripple as guys move to lower levels could force some guys into back-up roles.

Ben Keuter - wrestling only going forward it seems
Idaho replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
4-8 months depending on the surgery. Report I saw was he would be back November -which is more like the 8 months. Hip surgery is a tough recovery. Some wrestlers I have known have done the hip surgery and were not 100% the entire next season. -
Yeah - Merrill is going 197.... R16 Doucet not going to cut it after a year in the room with WH?
-
Erik Gibson of PSU - the mentally weak, can't handle setbacks not cut out to be the best wrestler enters the portal.
-
He didn't get to where he is now in the wrestling by being mentally weak Kenny Rogers. I'm sure he has had his share of adversity to overcome to get to where he is today. Lots of guys have left to go on to other programs because of broken promises, cut NIL, recruiting over.

Nice!! I approve 100%!!!
-
Yeah, he was always really small. He was at 106 all through HS. Had some pretty good wins in HS over Montanona, Romney, Wask, Chappell ... placed at Ironman and was a Fargo double champ. Pretty good HS career. I hope he lands somewhere and finishes his career strong.
-
Remember when it was only Iowa fans that were insufferable.... I'm worried about some of you. Look what NIL and the portal has done to your lives. Come back to us.
-
Any new portal news? Interesting guy in there is Andres Gonazalez... I thought he was going to be a great pick-up, but his results have been mediocre. Had some decent wins, but also some very bad losses. Kinda surprised he went all four years at tOSU. I think he could be a good pickup for a low/mid level team as a 133lber - I think his best results were there.
-
Correct... they could enter the last day and still have time to decide.... last year there were guys who transferred after the portal closed as a non-scholarship "walk on" but were somehow still able to pay cash for full tuition.
-
Weird that Thompson beat Ryder at WNO in HS, but hasn't really looked that great since.
-
The portal officially closes on May 2nd but it unofficially closes never. My guess on roster would be first official day of practice or first competition. I am guessing we know more specifics when it is implemented.
-
Nah the Ninja Tater stays.... I may just break that brotato out for special occasions .
-
Good point...team meeting tomorrow morning at 7am.
-
Agree... I don't see anything changing .They have their lineup and PSU is good at getting guys bigger for their weight, so Barr will be fine. The most obvious take on Ryder is that he got recruited over and he's leaving. It might be time for Cael to realize that some of his guys that have Natty title dreams are not going to ride the bench. Who's next to leave? Gotta be 133.
-
Hmmm... an up and coming team. I would be good with that.
-
Does it matter? Bob has already called him 143 times since he committed to PSU.
-
Welsh to PSU.... Ryder out to Ok State.... Next where does Thompson go? Simple dominoes.
