How about a second stall call? 2 minutes in and no points somebody should be hit for stalling. I see guys back all around the mat for 2 periods and no stalling called. Yet a stall seems to be called on the one winning in the 3rd often. Another stall that is often called is when one wrestler is getting dominated. TD and let up on repeat. The one getting taken down repeatedly is hit for stalling. He can be wrestling full bore, but not able to get a shot off due to being over matched and is hit for stalling. Poor wrestler maybe, but not stalling. Refs just let others dance around and nobody is called for stalling. Neither wrestler even shows interest in getting an offensive attack off. Those are the ones that need to be hit for stalling.

Well then, there no coaches who can recruit and coach their guys up, because ALL coaches are using the portal ad nauseum. Coaches are recruiting college wrestlers as well as hs wrestlers. Every wrestler on every team is fair game. The name of the game now is make your best team possible, be it from your roster or other teams' rosters. If you have the money- go get anyone you like from any team you like. Pay your wrestlers well or someone else will. Accept that, or be left behind.

Up 23-5? Sweet. Those guys were wrestling! Looking for falls and turns on top. These days, many guys just lay of the opponent for 5-10 seconds and stand back up. He had 3 falls that tourney. Heck, we are lucky to see 3 falls in international tourneys in a day of matches. Today its all about grabbing ankles and rolling. Those matches shown were much exciting! High scoring AND the wrestlers were going for falls to avoid "bad points".

Arizona St looks to be in bad shape going into the post season. According to wrestlestat ASU only has 9 "starters" - no 174 starter listed. Of the other 9 weights 5 of the 9 are ranked 98th or worse. A lot worse at several weights. How does a bigtime program like ASU have such little depth? How much help do they have coming in next season?

I also expected him to be better on his feet. I saw nothing to get excited about. I know it's wrestling so starters are sat on the regular, with no reason given, BUT no Witcraft OR Hughes? Gave it to a kid with ZERO college matches? Huh?

That is 38-2 dual meet individual matches. The two matches lost (both by Whiting) were 2-0 and 11-9. Like I was saying, very solid top to bottom!

This just in- Minnesota has a very solid team, top to bottom. I do not know how they will do those only three days that matter, but they will be a tough team to beat in a dual. Everytime I watch them wrestle, I come away more impressed. South Dakota is damn good team and they were beat 9-1 matches today. The only loss was a 2-0 DeVos over Whiting.

As we are constantly told, duals do not matter. The only thing that matters is March. Therefore, only non starters wrestle duals and tourneys. Starters wrestle the conference tournament and the national tourney. Once you qualify in your conference tournament forfeit out so no risk of injury in a meaningless conference semi final. Maybe even allow the backups qualify the weight at conference tournament, further reducing risk of injury to the starter, UWW style. While we are at it, why bother with the portal? Just loan wrestlers to other teams as some pro soccer teams do. Return the wrestler when your team recruits over the loaned wrestler. Big time programs can pay the "minor" programs for the loaned wrestler to help keep "minor" programs viable. (Dripping with sarcasm)

Both teams do not seem to want to open it up in the 1st periods. Wrestling tight.
